Chapter 90: Refining the Nightmare, Awakening (2)
“Hiss!” “Roar!”
“Kill!” “With me, none can stand against us!”
Within the map, the cries of countless warriors rose in wave after wave, and a fierce killing intent seemed to surge straight out from its depths.
The eight great dynasties stood there with majestic, boundless might.
Yan Chuan watched the scene with satisfaction. Beside him, Mo Yuxi clutched his arm, her face full of fear.
“Husband, th-this...” Mo Yuxi was too frightened to find the rest of her words.
“Do not ask why. You only need to know that I will never harm you,” Yan Chuan said gently.
In the past, even as Yan Chuan’s wife, Mo Yuxi might still have doubted him and felt uneasy. But after escaping death from the wolves, she no longer questioned him. She nodded at once.
“These days, Husband, you have been acting strangely, and I cannot make sense of it. But I believe you. Since you tell me not to ask, then I won’t,” Mo Yuxi said softly.
“Yes. In time, you will understand,” Yan Chuan replied in a warm voice.
“Mm.” Mo Yuxi, stirred by her feelings, leaned against his shoulder.
“Qin, Zhao, Han, Wei, Shu, Wu, Tang, and Ming! Eight mighty powers, obey my command. Put the full strength of your courts to use, hide your troops within the Great Dream Dynasty, and wait for my order!” Yan Chuan shouted at the map.
“Roar!”
A single thunderous roar answered from within the map.
Two months later, in the imperial palace of the Great Dream Dynasty.
The Great Dream Emperor was meeting in secret with his chief ministers.
“Your Majesty, the neighboring states have been restless these past days. It seems they are preparing some major move.”
“According to the reports, the eight nations are training their troops and stockpiling weapons, as though they might march at any moment.”
“Do we know where they intend to strike?” the Great Dream Emperor asked gravely.
“We do not.”
“If we do not know, then keep investigating. I have no time for this now,” the Great Dream Emperor said darkly.
“Your Majesty, how can you ignore matters of state for the sake of one woman?”
“Brazen fool!” The Great Dream Emperor glared.
“Your Majesty, for the sake of the Great Dream Kingdom, even if it costs me my life, I must make you see the truth. That woman, Mo Yuxi, is a calamity!” the minister cried.
“Nonsense. Who are you to lecture me about my own affairs? Get out!” the Great Dream Emperor shouted.
“Your Majesty!” The ministers all knelt.
“Take them away!” the Great Dream Emperor ordered.
A group of guards swiftly dragged the ministers out.
Just as they were being removed, Meng Yan entered, dragging his exhausted, frail body behind him.
“Your Majesty.” Meng Yan handed over a jade box.
The Great Dream Emperor took it. Inside lay a crimson pearl the size of a fist, glowing faintly red.
“Your Majesty, this is the Poison-Settling Pearl I forged by spending half my power. Wherever this pearl is placed, within a radius of about five kilometers, the poison in any poisonous mist or smoke will be silently neutralized,” Meng Yan said proudly.
“Good, good, excellent! With this Poison-Settling Pearl, I no longer need fear any assassination from that so-called Ghost City Grass. I can strike with full force and seize Mo Yuxi!” the Great Dream Emperor said excitedly.
“More than that, Yan Chuan has taken Mo Yuxi for himself, so he must be given ten thousand torments. Not only in body, but in spirit as well. Kill his entire family before his eyes, and let him suffer so much that life becomes worse than death, until every hope in him is shattered,” Meng Yan urged.
“Yes, I want him to die a miserable death,” the Great Dream Emperor nodded.
“And Mo Yuxi as well, Your Majesty. In the past, she failed to appreciate your grace. You must punish her too,” Meng Yan continued to inflame him.
“Indeed. I will kill Yan Chuan before her very eyes,” the Great Dream Emperor said woodenly, nodding like a puppet.
