Chapter 88: Awakening from the Dream (4)
“Ghost City Grass?”
“The so-called Ghost City Grass, when ignited within a city, releases a poisonous smoke that can swiftly kill every inhabitant, turning the entire place into a city of the dead.”
“That powerful?” Yan Chuan exclaimed in surprise.
“If we set it alight within ten miles of the new emperor, there’s no way he could survive!” A glint of ruthlessness flashed through Mo Yuxi’s eyes.
“It’s worth a try. Show it to me!” Yan Chuan’s interest was immediately piqued.
“Very well, I’ll have someone fetch it at once,” Mo Yuxi replied without hesitation.
Two hours later, in Yan Chuan’s chamber.
“My lord, it’s inside this jade box,” Mo Yuxi said.
Within the jade box lay a bundle of purple grass, no larger than a palm—Ghost City Grass, a poison of unparalleled lethality.
Mo Yuxi gazed at the grass with satisfaction.
Yet Yan Chuan’s attention was drawn to his left wrist—a birthmark shaped like a seed.
There was nothing remarkable about a birthmark, except that this one was glowing with a strange green light, flickering eerily.
“What’s this?” Yan Chuan stared at the mark, his expression complex.
Glowing? Why would it glow? Isn’t it just a birthmark?
He fixed his gaze on it, lost in thought, as if frozen in place.
“My lord?” Mo Yuxi looked at him in puzzlement.
Yan Chuan waved her off, signaling not to disturb him.
Mo Yuxi obediently fell silent.
Yan Chuan’s mind raced, as though he was on the verge of remembering something, but it remained shrouded in mist.
“What is it? I feel as if I remember, but I simply can’t recall,” Yan Chuan muttered, furrowing his brow in concentration.
He pondered for a full hour while Mo Yuxi waited patiently.
“Poison Vine!” Yan Chuan suddenly lifted his head, a sharp gleam in his eyes.
A flood of memories crashed into his mind.
More and more recollections surfaced, his features gradually relaxing, the light in his eyes growing brighter.
Mo Yuxi watched anxiously, concern written on her face. Several times she wanted to call out to him and ask what was wrong, but her own intelligence prevailed and she curbed her curiosity, letting Yan Chuan recollect in silence.
“Poison Vine? Ha! Hahaha!” Yan Chuan suddenly burst into laughter.
He took a deep breath, as though finally at ease.
“So the Nightmare has indeed found me. A dream… what a dream indeed!” His gaze sharpened.
“My lord, what’s wrong?” Mo Yuxi could no longer contain herself.
Yan Chuan turned to her, his eyes intense.
“Why are you looking at me like that, my lord? I… I…” Mo Yuxi’s voice trembled with fear.
Seeing her fear, Yan Chuan’s expression softened. Remembering his current identity, he let out a bitter smile.
“Saintess Yuxi?” he called gently, testing her.
“My lord, what are you saying? You’re frightening me!” Mo Yuxi’s worry deepened.
Looking at her panic, Yan Chuan’s expression grew complicated. After a moment’s thought, he decided against awakening her memories.
“Don’t worry. With me here, nothing will happen. The Dream Emperor? He’s nothing. We’ll overcome this together. Now that I’m awake, I’ll seize the Nightmare as well!” Yan Chuan declared confidently.
“My lord, what are you talking about? Why can’t I understand?” Mo Yuxi asked in confusion.
“There’s no need for you to understand. Leave everything to me,” Yan Chuan reassured her.
“Alright,” Mo Yuxi whispered, leaning gently into his embrace.
Yan Chuan held her, his feelings a tangled mess.
Even though this was only a dream, and when he woke, it would all be as if it had never happened, the memories would perhaps never truly fade. A few months as husband and wife—deeper than any oath sworn by the seas.
Yan Chuan could awaken Mo Yuxi within the dream, but then what? How would they face each other? If the Nightmare sensed even the slightest anomaly, it would be difficult to trap it.
Thus, Yan Chuan decided to keep it a secret for now.
