Chapter 78: Entering the Dream (1)
Chapter Twenty-Three: Entering the Dream
“Awaken!” Yan Chuan’s voice rang out, deep and commanding.
Boom!
The Azure Dragon shuddered violently.
With a rush of air, its eyes sprang wide open, jolted awake, and met Yan Chuan’s gaze, confronted his indomitable will.
Yan Chuan’s will manifested as the imperial will of a dragon; in that instant, as his eyes opened, the Azure Dragon beheld a magnificent golden dragon.
Its features were rugged, its eyes blazing with anger, exuding a proud dominance over all living things.
With a gasp, the Azure Dragon inhaled sharply, its eyes sparkling with dazzling brilliance, then froze in place, stupefied.
Yan Chuan exhaled heavily. The light in his eyes faded, his will withdrawn, and his face turned deathly pale.
He staggered back two steps, as if he could barely remain upright.
“My lord!” Liu Jin and the others hurried forward.
The Azure Dragon had awakened, its overwhelming pressure dissipated, and three thousand soldiers felt as if a great weight had been lifted from their shoulders.
“I’m fine!” Yan Chuan shook his head with a wry smile.
At this moment, his face was ashen, as if he had been drained in an instant, a trace of bitter amusement appearing on his lips. “Most strong men are limited by their wills not matching their bodies, but I nearly had my will break through my own flesh.”
A formidable will, within a frail body—Yan Chuan did not know whether to be glad or sorrowful. After the suppression, he had been weakened by the sheer force of his own will.
Meanwhile—
The moment the Azure Dragon awakened, the two spiritual avatars suddenly froze in place.
The White Tiger halted, surprised.
“He’s awake?” Mo Yuxi’s eyes lit up.
“Big brother!” The White Tiger flew over at once.
Mo Yuxi also stepped forward.
“Don’t disturb him!” Yan Chuan stopped them abruptly.
The Azure Dragon stood there, dazed, lost in thought.
“What’s wrong with big brother? Isn’t he awake?” The White Tiger asked, confused.
Mo Yuxi saw through the Azure Dragon’s state at a glance. Anxious, she wanted to call him, but the words turned into a gentle sigh and she refrained.
“The Azure Dragon has attained enlightenment,” Mo Yuxi said softly.
“Enlightenment? That’s wonderful!” The White Tiger’s face brightened.
But seeing Mo Yuxi’s disappointed expression, he immediately understood.
“Saintess, thank you for your kindness!” The White Tiger said sincerely.
He knew well why Mo Yuxi sought the Nightmare.
Now that the Azure Dragon was awake, they might learn where the Nightmare had escaped. Yet Mo Yuxi chose to let it go; she valued her subordinate’s enlightenment above her quest. She would rather lose the trail of the Nightmare than disturb the Azure Dragon’s breakthrough.
Such treatment of her followers deeply moved the White Tiger. This was a Saintess worthy of his true loyalty.
“Are you all right, Yan Chuan?” Mo Yuxi looked to him.
She no longer knew what to feel as she regarded Yan Chuan—each time, his actions left her even more shaken.
“My spirit is somewhat exhausted, but a period of rest will suffice,” Yan Chuan replied, shaking his head.
“Thank you, Yan Chuan,” Mo Yuxi said solemnly, offering him a slight bow.
“Don’t you wish to know why?” Yan Chuan smiled and asked.
Mo Yuxi nodded, “Of course I wish to know, but you have just saved the Azure Dragon, which is a great favor to me. If you do not wish to speak, I will not ask.”
The White Tiger nodded in agreement.
“If that is the case, I hope the three of you will keep this secret,” Yan Chuan said with a smile.
“Certainly!” Mo Yuxi replied gravely, her gaze at Yan Chuan growing ever brighter.
“Yan Chuan, you have saved my big brother—and thus, saved me. What happened today, the White Tiger will never speak of to anyone!” The White Tiger pounded his chest in assurance.
