Chapter 38: Eating the Demonic Beast (2)
“Yes!” Huo Guang responded immediately.
“My lord, the chief devotee has escaped. Should we keep chasing him?” Liu Jin asked anxiously.
Yan Chuan shook his head. “There’s no need. We don’t have to act—they will not survive this forest.”
“Yes!” Liu Jin replied.
“And these three devotees, my lord? Should we keep them?” Liu Jin pressed further.
“What use are they?” Yan Chuan replied indifferently.
Despair appeared on the faces of the three poisoned devotees, but what could they do? Nothing could change their fate.
Huo Guang swiftly ordered the soldiers to clear the battlefield.
Once everything was settled, the golden pagoda suddenly radiated a brilliant light.
“Boom!”
The golden pagoda exploded with a thunderous roar. The rice paper was reduced to ashes, leaving only the corpse of the demon serpent, which drew sighs of awe from the soldiers in silver armor.
“The paper was too poor, the ink was too weak, the brush was too crude! They could not withstand the strength of my words!” Yan Chuan sighed softly.
“My lord, everything is ready,” Huo Guang stepped forward.
“Take the demon serpent back. Use vessels to collect its blood,” Yan Chuan commanded gravely.
“Yes!” Huo Guang replied at once.
To carry the serpent? Though it was heavy, the soldiers tasked with it were all filled with excitement—after all, this was a demon beast.
Yan Chuan settled back into his sedan. The army marched back along the path they had come.
Liu Jin walked outside the sedan, waiting attentively for Yan Chuan.
“My lord, these three items were found on the devotees,” Liu Jin reported respectfully from outside.
Inside the sedan, Yan Chuan gazed at the three objects on the small table.
A jade ruyi of vivid green, a small jade vial, and a piece of white fur no larger than a palm.
Opening the vial, Yan Chuan glanced inside and sneered, “Another fasting pill?”
He turned to the jade ruyi.
“Jade of white and green? It can calm the mind, ward off agitation during cultivation. Not bad, but useless to me,” Yan Chuan shook his head.
Lastly, he examined the white fur. On the reverse side was a crimson rune.
“Wolf demon hide? A talisman? Demon hide talisman? Sadly, the one who drew the rune lacked skill—the power is limited,” Yan Chuan shook his head.
Looking at the three objects, Yan Chuan spoke suddenly, “Liu Jin!”
“Your old servant is here!” Liu Jin replied respectfully outside.
“Take the jade ruyi to a craftsman and have it fashioned into a calligraphy brush. Pluck the hairs from this wolf hide and use them to fill the brush. As for the fasting pill, keep it for now,” Yan Chuan handed over the three items.
“Yes!” Liu Jin responded respectfully.
-----
Outside Yan Chuan’s bamboo lodge.
Yan Chuan began his meal once more.
But this time, there was only one dish—a large clay pot full of white broth.
“My lord, this is the serpent stew made from the demon snake,” Liu Jin said respectfully at his side.
“Very well,” Yan Chuan nodded.
He drank a mouthful of soup and smiled with satisfaction, “The flesh of a demon beast is indeed extraordinary. Even this broth is rich with vital energy.”
Huo Guang and Liu Jin stood quietly to the side, waiting.
Yan Chuan ate alone, and before long, the entire pot of serpent stew had been consumed.
As the serpent meat entered his belly, Yan Chuan felt as if fire burned within—violent energy surged through his body.
Liu Jin ordered the attendants to quickly clear away the chairs.
Yan Chuan began practicing his boxing in the courtyard once more.
“Whoosh!” “Whoosh!” “Whoosh!”
As his fists struck out, the air around him was stirred by his swift movements. The serpent meat was transformed into strength, tempering Yan Chuan’s body with each punch.
With every blow, waves of air rolled across the ground, and even the distant bamboo forest seemed to shudder under the force of his punches, rustling in the wind.
