Chapter 136: Charging Rampantly into Yanjing (1)
Chapter Three: Charging Headlong into Yanjing
"Giddyup!"
Yan Chuan rode at the very front, kicking up billows of dust wherever his horse's hooves fell.
Three thousand soldiers followed closely behind, without a single moment of rest. Their blood-sweat steed mounts moved with astonishing speed, covering a hundred miles in just a few short hours.
As they galloped over a small hill, Yan Chuan’s sharp eyes caught sight of rolling dust in the distance.
"Halt!" Yan Chuan commanded in a deep voice.
"Whoa!" "Whoa!"...
Obeying the order instantly, the three thousand soldiers pulled back on their reins. Amidst the loud neighing of their prized steeds, they all came to a stop.
Every single one of the three thousand soldiers was at the ninth tier of the Force Realm or higher. Their formidable, overwhelming aura naturally brought the blood-sweat steeds into complete submission, and the horses obediently quieted down without making another sound.
Standing atop the hill, Yan Chuan squinted his eyes as he looked into the distance.
Flanking him on the left and right were Huo Guang and Liu Jin respectively.
"Prince, it appears there are ambushing troops ahead," Liu Jin said in a low voice.
"That old bastard Zhao Kuo, the younger brother of the Zhao family head—I requisitioned the blood-sweat steeds from his camp, and yet he actually dares to lead fifty thousand elite soldiers to intercept us?" Huo Guang said with a cold glint in his eyes.
"Huo Guang, go negotiate. Tell him to scram and get out of our way!" Yan Chuan said solemnly.
"Understood!" Huo Guang acknowledged.
"Giddyup!"
Huo Guang spurred his horse forward directly.
Zhao Kuo spotted the solitary rider approaching from afar.
"Halt!" Zhao Kuo shouted loudly.
The fifty thousand troops came to an immediate stop, forming a military array directed at the lone horseman riding toward them.
"My lord, look—the leader on that small hill must be Yan Chuan!" a minor general pointed into the distance and said.
"It's Huo Guang! He actually came over all by himself. Such audacity!"
"Where is their silver armor? Why are they wearing such ostentatious brocade robes instead?"
...
The minor generals around Zhao Kuo chattered noisily. Zhao Kuo kept his gaze fixed on the approaching Huo Guang.
"Whoa!"...
Huo Guang halted his horse right in front of the military formation.
"Zhao Kuo! The Prince is passing through this territory. Step aside at once!" Huo Guang shouted.
"Hmph, Huo Guang! You beat up my subordinates and stole my blood-sweat steeds. I haven't even settled accounts with you yet, and you actually dare to come see me?" Zhao Kuo said coldly.
"Stole? Pah! Are the blood-sweat steeds yours, Zhao Kuo? They were raised across generations by the Great Yan imperial household and merely distributed to your military camp based on strategic needs. When the Prince needs to use them, he naturally has the right to requisition them at any time. How did they ever become yours, Zhao Kuo?" Huo Guang rebuked loudly.
"Hmph, if they are in my camp, they belong to me!" Zhao Kuo glared fiercely.
"Your military camp does not belong to Great Yan? Is it not under the jurisdiction of the Prince and the Yan Emperor?" Huo Guang demanded.
"Are you new to this world? My Zhao army belongs exclusively to the Zhao family, and to no one else!" Zhao Kuo barked.
"Audacious!" Huo Guang widened his eyes and let out an explosive shout.
"Whoa-whoa!" "Whoa-whoa!"...
The sheer might of that single shout sent the horses of Zhao Kuo's army into an instant panic of agitation. Several minor generals changed their expressions as they looked at Huo Guang.
"Zhao Kuo, do you realize how treasonous your words just were? Are you intending to represent your Zhao family in a rebellion?" Huo Guang reprimanded sternly.
"Rebellion? Hmph, today I am going to slaughter the lot of you, leaving not a single survivor. What bullshit Emperor-Protecting Camp, what bullshit Prince of the First Rank—you are all going to die!" Zhao Kuo was thoroughly provoked into a rage.
"You dare to rebel?" Huo Guang glared, his anger surging.
"So what if it's rebellion? Once you're dead, who will ever know? Who would dare report me? Hahaha!" Zhao Kuo laughed wildly.
Zhao Kuo's unbridled arrogance emboldened the surrounding soldiers as well.
"Hahahaha!"
