Chapter Four: The Life of This Lifetime

“When I return to my peak, Zhen Xiong, you will have that celestial sword and have entered the Immortal Realm, won’t you? I will come for you. In this life, I am determined to forge a court even more powerful than in my previous existence, defy the tribulations of heaven, and aim straight for the Immortal Realm! I will cut open your chest and take your heart and lungs!”

“Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle...!”

At the moment of Yan Chuan’s vow of vengeance, his stomach suddenly emitted a rumbling sound of hunger.

Looking at his own belly, Yan Chuan let out a bitter smile. “It’s been so long since I felt hunger. The Realm of Strength, the most basic stage, requires consuming large amounts of meat to increase power. The Realm of Strength? Fortunately, my status in this life is not low, and from birth, I have a supply of plentiful meat. Only, I wonder about its quality!”

He rose, smoothed the creases on his robes, and once more opened the bamboo door, stepping out slowly.

The corpses that had originally filled the area had been cleared away, and a group of servants stood respectfully on either side.

“Greetings, Your Highness!” they all intoned reverently.

“Hmm. I am hungry. Prepare a feast! Right here!” Yan Chuan said coolly.

“Yes!” the middle-aged eunuch responded immediately.

He swiftly directed the servants to bring luxurious tables and chairs, and dishes were carried in one after another.

Meanwhile, Yan Chuan took the opportunity to inspect the corpse of Ma Gongfeng.

“Your Highness, I have already searched this body. Aside from a bottle of pills and these eight banners, there is nothing else!” Huo Guang respectfully handed over a small bottle and eight banners.

Yan Chuan took the bottle and sniffed it lightly.

“Fasting Pills? Not a very good medicine; it doesn’t add much strength. At most, one pill will keep you from hunger for fifteen days.” Yan Chuan remarked in a calm tone.

Fasting Pills? Huo Guang’s eyes lit up—a single pill could stave off hunger for fifteen days? For soldiers, this was an extravagant luxury. In war, supplies are often the decisive factor. With Fasting Pills, wouldn’t the army be invincible? Unfortunately, there were far too few; Huo Guang had estimated earlier, and there were fewer than thirty pills.

But that wasn’t the cause of Huo Guang’s excitement. What thrilled him was that the prince had identified it at a glance!

Yan Chuan paid no attention to Huo Guang and instead examined the eight banners.

Observing them, Yan Chuan raised his brows slightly. “Ice silkworm thread? Excellent material, but wasted to make such crude items!”

Huo Guang watched from the side, full of curiosity. Each term Yan Chuan uttered seemed to possess a tremendous allure, stirring Huo Guang’s heart into a frenzy.

Yan Chuan glanced at Huo Guang, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.

“Your Highness, the feast is ready!” The middle-aged eunuch approached respectfully.

“Yes,” Yan Chuan nodded.

He placed the Fasting Pills and eight banners on the table, brushed aside his robe, and sat down.

Huo Guang, the middle-aged eunuch, and a group of servants stood respectfully by, awaiting Yan Chuan’s orders.

There were eight dishes on the table, all meat. Yan Chuan found them satisfactory.

He picked up jade chopsticks, grasped a piece of meat, and began to eat.

After a bite, Yan Chuan frowned slightly. “What is this?”

“Your Highness, this is venison, freshly hunted by the Imperial Guard,” the middle-aged eunuch explained.

Yan Chuan nodded. It was not that he couldn’t identify the meat, but rather that the venison failed to satisfy him.

He continued sampling the other meats, with the eunuch providing another round of introductions: musk deer, wolf, beef...

“Are these the only meats?” Yan Chuan asked in a deep voice.

“Your Highness, these are the finest meats available!” the eunuch replied at once.

“No meat from demon beasts?” Yan Chuan inquired.

“Demon beasts? Two years ago, the emperor went hunting, and five hundred imperial guards managed to slay a wounded old demon beast. We are mere mortals—how could we possibly catch a demon beast?” the eunuch said, shaking his head.
