Section Ninety-Four: Could You Let Me Die a Little Longer?
Page 1/3
The crowd was puzzled by Wuyun’s confusion when suddenly, a faint scent of scorched air mixed with a delicate aroma of celestial milk spread throughout the array’s core. Long Yi and the others were shocked and held their breath. Wuyun scratched his head and sniffed but said nothing.
As the Nine Obscure True Fire circled, the heat became unbearable, and the formation prepared to retreat along its original path to pursue the Tree Immortal. Feng Qianyu was puzzled by Wuyun’s behavior and insisted on using some metal materials to trace back to the source. Could it be that the elder was so bold as to want to seize everything at once?
Just as she began to point out that some malevolent spirits had solidified here into metal, the Nine Obscure True Fire stirred slightly. The black aura above Wuyun’s head exploded. What a joke! If the Nine Obscure True Fire were to burn freely, the entire formation would melt like wax.
Yet, at the most dangerous moment, a clue was discovered: at the topmost part of the True Fire, where the temperature was highest, a faint, watery halo of light shimmered in the space.
“Damn!” Wuyun cursed, drawing disdainful looks from the others. Long Yi pointed to the watery halo and suddenly had a troubling thought, stopping Wuyun: “Elder Wuyun, do you think there’s a space there at the hottest spot storing all kinds of rare treasures?”
Wuyun nodded faintly. Before Old Bear San could grab his leg, Long Yi leapt forward and hugged him, shouting, “Everyone says water and fire have no mercy, elder. This is the Nine Obscure True Fire, the highest celestial fire after a bit of refining, coveted by every Celestial Emperor. Elder, let’s not walk on a tightrope here—I’d rather die whole than have my immortal soul suffer the agony of constant burning!”
He stomped away, and the formation surged upward against the current. Soon, the temperature soared. This heat didn’t just come from outside the formation; it permeated the entire space, including their souls and celestial artifacts.
This involved the power of the Celestial King’s laws, with the center being the strongest.
The formation tried several times. While the others could still endure, Wuyun was unable to hold out. The black malevolent qi in his body loathed this radiant heat, burning like black smoke inside him.
After three attempts, everyone thought Wuyun would give up, but he glared at the still unconscious Rong Ya, gritted his teeth, and shamelessly asked Feng Qianyu: “Lend me a hundred pieces of top-grade celestial stones!”
Feng Qianyu shook her head. Of course, anything in her possession could only be retrieved from her corpse; even then, not so easily!
“I’ll return a thousand pieces!” Wuyun said.
Feng Qianyu immediately pulled out the celestial stones, thinking she had scored a big advantage. Just as she was about to mock herself, Wuyun added, “I thought I’d have to repay you a hundred or a thousand times. Even so, if money can settle it, it’s a small matter!”
He threw the top-grade celestial stones into the formation to be ground down. Then, countless strands of immortal energy converted and entered Rong Ya’s body.
This early-stage Celestial King’s injuries took up half the celestial stones.
When Rong Ya opened his eyes and saw Wuyun, he immediately closed them in pain, saying, “Elder, elder, can’t I just die a little longer?”
Wuyun was about to suggest swapping with Elder Jin Bu, but the latter had already shrunk away, leaving only his torso.
Rong Ya, restored to seventy or eighty percent, floated up. Wuyun looked him over but felt it wasn’t enough. He took out the jade seal coffin, hesitated, then produced another item.
“A second-grade celestial sword!”
Elder Lingtong was shocked. Indeed, this elder had a secret stash.
When the terrifying celestial sword was summoned, a gravitational pull came from the other side of the Nine Obscure True Fire. Just as a shadow formed, a terrifying voice rang out: “Boy, you still dare to scheme against me!”
Page 2/3
The voice ignored the imperial artifact, the surrounding environment, as if it were spoken by a living being and heard by all.
Instantly, Elder Lingtong and others felt their legs weaken. Only the Grand Elder from the valley, an immortal emperor, possessed such power that transcended space.
Even Green Snake and Feng Qianyu were stunned. Green Snake recognized the voice and shed tears of excitement. Feng Qianyu swallowed hard, knowing that Wuyun had used the Nine Obscure True Fire to scorch the Emperor Snake.
This projection was related to the celestial sword; whenever the terrifying celestial sword appeared, the shadow would come. Unexpectedly, Wuyun deliberately concealed it with the Nine Obscure True Fire, so the shadow piercing through the fire was like diving through scorching flames.
“Elder, I’ve returned all your top-grade spirit stones. I have no karmic ties with you, no connection whatsoever.”
If Feng Qianyu was willing to hand over her precious celestial stones, the nature of this shadow was beyond question. Yet Wuyun pushed back firmly: “We have karmic ties. Even if you gave me your life, you couldn’t escape. Don’t waste effort or money.”
Feng Qianyu’s face fell. Though she was the second eldest daughter of her clan, if the Demon Emperor killed her, the clan would at most produce another replacement…
The Nine Obscure True Fire could melt a second-grade celestial sword but not instantly. After Rong Ya entered the coffin, the celestial sword extended from within the jade seal coffin, forming a sharp blade that pierced through.
With Rong Ya’s agonized cries, his soul detached, leaving only three drops of essence blood behind.
“Remember, no matter what, once the three drops of blood-formed clones die, you must return to the coffin to reincarnate. I know what I’m doing. If you get greedy, death will be in vain!”
After Rong Ya repeatedly promised, the jade seal and celestial sword acted like a stone awl, slicing through the hottest part, breaking space, and disappearing without a trace.
Only Rong Ya’s body remained, his two empty eyes witnessing everything.
Entering the hidden space, the temperature and various anomalies reached an extreme. Then, the outermost jade seal coffin and celestial sword melted away.
If Rong Ya’s body was inside, no matter the protection, it would be reduced to powder. Yet the three drops of essence blood inside remained unaffected. Upon close inspection, they had turned to dry powder—but how could they be burned away?
Inside the space, the temperature still burned fiercely, but the soul was fearless. It manifested, and a drop of the scorched blood powder floated out, quickly forming a misty body around its shell.
With this body, he could perform spells beyond soul power. As he stabilized, everything before him stunned.
All the materials belonging to an Immortal Emperor’s private stash were here, dense and endless. It looked like a cylindrical structure of 3,600 layers, each storing one or more rare materials.
The current layer resembled transparent glass, with some sparkling objects—precisely the celestial stones he had long dreamed of—forming a stable formation that shielded the entrance from the intense heat.
Moreover, the strong scent of celestial milk drifted from the innermost section.
“Jackpot!”
Copper bloodstone, soul lotus solid, multicolor powder, five-point bright stone, silver titanium heavenly essence, eternal soil, heavy ore, radiant immortal iron, soul-attracting stone...
There were so many that even a small amount of ore residue would keep him busy mining for a long time.
Rong Ya immediately transformed into a miner, using the celestial sword as a shovel and the coffin as a basket, digging tirelessly.
Wuyun’s face turned pale beside him. Having given him two treasures, he was still digging through garbage. The ore residue melted and stuck to the walls’ crevices, making collection extremely difficult, yet Rong Ya persevered.
A day passed, and when the essence blood particle’s form vanished, Rong Ya remembered the key point and sent another drop drifting deeper into the space.
Yet the deeper he went, the fewer rare items appeared; the layers narrowed. Upon reaching the innermost thirty layers, gains were still minimal. Only on the fifth-to-last layer was a cluster of grayish-white objects growing on the space’s crevice.
Wuyun saw clearly and sighed: “Trouble. It actually spawned such a spatial stealing beast!”
Page 3/3
Elder Lingtong had heard rumors and exclaimed: “The legendary spatial divine worm, which devours specific items within space. Its presence means the space will be consumed and vanish.”
Wuyun shook his head, denying it. “It’s not powerful. What’s powerful is what this space is created by—something it dares not devour. Vaguely, I sense trouble.”
He looked at his body, self-mocking: “The more fleas, the less itch. The more money, the less worry.”
As if in response, Rong Ya was jolted by the spatial worm, sustaining minor injuries to both soul and body.
At this moment, Rong Ya, recalling the silent mantra taught by Long Yi, transformed the last drop of essence blood and followed the scent, diving to the deepest point. Upon reaching the final layer, only a skeleton sat cross-legged there. The impervious celestial milk scent emanated from the bones.
“Fellow Daoist, you took your time!” The skeleton opened its eyes, radiating imperial majesty that nearly terrified Rong Ya and left Elder Lingtong and Feng Qianyu unable to rise.
Suddenly, it was a deceased Immortal Emperor, leaving behind a lingering divine consciousness, awaiting the arrival of others.
“Could it be that this Immortal Emperor feared theft and left a powerful contingency?” Elder Lingtong trembled, unable even to sigh. Every Immortal Emperor’s ascension requires great fortune and overcoming countless trials to reach such a realm.
Once attained, death is rare unless by one’s own doing; even then, one can reincarnate in the mortal world or a minor realm to live again.
Amid their fear, Wuyun’s words stunned them further.
“You’re still not dead? Better to be dead than alive. Living only breeds suffering and disaster for the immortal realm!”
Wuyun spoke expressionlessly. At the same time, Rong Ya’s eyes shone brightly as he stood, moving his limbs.
Rong Ya’s soul still hid within the secret storage space, along with two important immortal artifacts. But his body was already parasitized and controlled.
“Are you trying to talk with me or oppose me?” The possessed Rong Ya shook his head and said, “You’re right. I’d rather die, but I’m sealed forever until my soul weakens and my skeleton crumbles.”
Wuyun shook his head. Rong Ya was regaining strength; a trace of imperial aura formed. When he spoke, the wind was calm and clouds light, showing no regard for anyone.
“You finding this place truly surprises me. This is the only place the artifact spirit cannot fully control. The Nine Obscure True Fire exists here on the same level!”
The possessed Rong Ya’s eyes began to glow but soon faded as all his divine spirit was absorbed by the imperial skeleton. His body lay down again.
“If you help me, you won’t save the artifact spirit or me. I only hope to reincarnate, live another life, and prove the great Dao.”
As the others began to understand the situation, they grew fearful of the imperial artifact.
The imperial artifact had sealed a fragment of its master’s soul within the bones, ensuring the owner’s essence survived the death of the body.
Yet the master would forever be unable to reincarnate—a truly agonizing fate.
“It’s delayed me too long. I thought it would pave the way for my reincarnation, but I was wrong. It’s trying to escape me, sever me, and gain rebirth and freedom. Ha! Foolish delusion!”
Wuyun listened without interruption, then added, “What great benefit would I gain by helping you?”
