Chapter 73: I Will Find My Comrades!
At this moment, the jungle was shrouded in a deep darkness. It seemed as if storm clouds were gathering, heralding an impending downpour. A cold wind swept through the woods, making the winter forest feel even more chilling. Qin Feng sensed something was amiss ahead—there appeared to be shadows flickering among the trees, suggesting the presence of enemies.
“Could it be that our rendezvous point has been discovered by the pursuers? If so, everyone will be in grave danger,” he thought to himself. Concealed behind a large tree, he observed carefully, intent on figuring out what these pursuers intended to do.
He couldn’t be sure if the enemy had found their meeting place. Logically, it should have remained undiscovered; after all, the location had been decided at the last minute by Warhawk, and only the five members of the third squad knew about it. He trusted his comrades implicitly—none would betray their own.
“Maybe the enemy just happened upon this place by chance? It’s possible. Perhaps they wandered here without knowing it’s our rendezvous point,” Qin Feng mused. In the chaos of the battlefield, anything could happen, so the possibility of the enemy stumbling upon their location couldn’t be ruled out.
If that was the case, these pursuers needed to be led away. If they continued toward the rendezvous point and discovered his teammates, his comrades would be in danger. “I have to draw these pursuers away. Only then will my brothers be safe and able to retreat smoothly. Let’s see if I can take care of this problem,” he resolved.
Qin Feng quickly made up his mind. Drawing the pursuers away would prevent them from stumbling upon the meeting point, keeping his brothers out of harm’s way. The thought reassured him; he was determined to protect his comrades, to ensure their safety above all else.
“Chase them! Don’t let a single one escape! Kill them all!” Suddenly, a man who seemed to be the leader barked out in broken Mandarin, his voice cruel and menacing. His icy gaze seemed to chill the air, making the temperature drop as if they were standing on a thousand-year-old glacier. A murderous aura radiated from him. Their previous leader had been killed by Qin Feng, and now this man was seething with rage, intent on wiping out Qin Feng and his team. Only then could they return to report—perhaps even earn a reward or a promotion.
Instantly, the pursuers quickened their pace, desperate to find Qin Feng and his companions, ready to launch a ferocious assault.
“So, you want to kill us all? Such ruthlessness... Since you’re so merciless, don’t blame me for showing no mercy either,” Qin Feng thought, his eyes cold and steady. He removed the sniper round from his rifle and replaced it with an incendiary round. This bullet was packed with thousands of incendiary pellets—upon hitting its target, it would ignite instantly and could not be extinguished. Survival was nearly impossible for anyone struck by it; it was a truly fearsome weapon.
With utmost caution, he raised his sniper rifle and peered through the scope at the enemy. Soon, he spotted the man giving orders, barking commands for his men to seek them out and exterminate them. The leader gripped an AK47, his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment.
“Let’s see how savage you can be. You’re the one I’ll take down first. Take out the leader and the rest will lose their fighting spirit—they won’t have the will to pursue Warhawk and the others,” Qin Feng thought. Knowing that to catch the bandits, he had to capture their leader first, he chose his target.
He focused intently, suppressing every ounce of his presence—if the target was highly skilled, he might sense the killing intent and react accordingly, making the shot much harder. Killing intent can be keenly felt, and Qin Feng took no chances.
He aimed with perfect precision. In an instant, his aura flared like a blade drawn from its sheath. Without hesitation, Qin Feng pulled the trigger.
A sharp whistle pierced the air as the sniper round shot out, carrying Qin Feng’s fury as it streaked through the darkness and vanished ahead.
A moment later, it struck its mark. Thousands of incendiary pellets burst forth, igniting instantly. The leader was engulfed in fierce flames, shrieking as he ran wildly in search of relief. The men around him were startled and rushed to help, brandishing branches to beat out the flames.
But an incendiary round is not easily quenched. As they tried to douse the fire, the burning pellets scattered, spreading the flames to those trying to help. Chaos erupted, mingled with screams of agony, the scene turning utterly nightmarish.
Qin Feng quickly retreated, knowing his shot had achieved its effect.
Suddenly, bursts of gunfire erupted as the enemy spotted his position. Panic gripped them; they realized just how formidable Zhang Cheng’s combat skills were—a terrifying display of true prowess.
“Thank goodness for the cover of the jungle. With these trees shielding me, the enemy can’t easily surround me. Otherwise, I’d be in real trouble,” Qin Feng thought, darting between the trees. He was painfully aware of the danger he faced and ran at full speed, employing evasive maneuvers, his formidable presence palpable. He moved so swiftly that he left afterimages among the trees—it was more like flying than running.
Just then, he saw more pursuers closing in from behind—these were the soldiers who’d been hunting him earlier.
“Damn it, so many of them! Are they trying to encircle me and finish me off?” Qin Feng’s heart pounded; he realized how perilous his situation had become. The enemy was closing in from both sides, intent on trapping and eliminating him. Their combat strength was formidable.
“I have to run faster,” Qin Feng urged himself. Only by escaping their firing range could he survive, regroup with his comrades, and learn of their fate.
“I will find my brothers,” he swore silently, pushing himself to run even faster. He was determined to find his comrades and ensure they returned safely, without suffering any losses.
