Chapter Sixty-Four: Everyone Gets to Know Each Other!
"Understood." Qin Feng, seeing the captain speak in this manner, immediately understood his intentions. From Su Yun, he had learned that the captain was her elder brother and knew that he took good care of him. This was also a way to help him grow stronger. Grateful, he responded promptly, saluted War Eagle, and, with a serious expression, said, "Reporting to the captain, Qin Feng requests to report in. Please give instructions."
"At ease." War Eagle returned the salute, a look of genuine happiness on his face. He had gone to great lengths to prepare for Qin Feng's entry into the third squad, investing considerable energy and time. He had applied to the captain for the video footage of Qin Feng’s previous combat mission, and from it, he judged that Qin Feng possessed excellent marksmanship with a sniper rifle.
Moreover, he had observed Qin Feng’s training and noticed that he trained with a reckless intensity, constantly striving to grow stronger, and in some aspects, had already surpassed him. He believed Qin Feng was capable, so, when the squad lacked a sniper for the current mission, he applied to the captain and invited Qin Feng to join them.
"The third squad welcomes your arrival," War Eagle said, turning to Qin Feng.
He knew that, aside from the captain, each special operations squad usually consisted of five members—commander, sniper, scout, demolitions expert, and assault specialist. Except for the sniper, the squad was already complete, but now, with Qin Feng’s addition, their sniper position was filled, enabling them to execute missions more effectively.
"Good, now go. The mission intelligence has already been distributed. I’m sure your squad is aware," the captain said with satisfaction.
The two left and returned to the barracks.
Once inside, War Eagle saw everyone was present and barked, "Everyone's here. Now that we’re all assembled, gather up!"
Immediately, the three members already in the barracks quickly formed up. They were members of the third squad and looked to War Eagle and Qin Feng with puzzled expressions, uncertain what was happening. However, as special forces soldiers, their observation skills were keen, and their ability to analyze situations was precise. They seemed to have an inkling of what was going on.
"Captain, is it possible we’re getting a new teammate?" asked a tall, slender, and sharp-eyed young man who appeared slightly older than Qin Feng. His whole demeanor radiated a quick-witted energy.
"He’s probably the scout," Qin Feng thought, guessing his role.
"Fei Ying, you’re right. As expected of our scout, your observation skills are impressive. Looks like your scouting ability has improved again," War Eagle said, looking at Fei Ying, recognizing his sharpness.
"Indeed, a scout," Qin Feng mused inwardly, confirming his previous guess.
"That’s wonderful. Captain found us a sniper. That’s something to be happy about. I was worried—if we didn’t have a sniper for this mission, what would we do? Now there’s no need to worry; captain brought one in," said a tall man with sword-like brows.
"Captain truly thinks ahead. I’m impressed," remarked the third young man, whose burly build exuded an air of strength.
"Alright, brothers. Fengzi—everyone knows him. He’s the sniper who defeated the King of Snipers, the best marksman in our Tiger Special Forces, no less skilled than the King himself. I don’t need to explain further. He’s already carried out real combat missions and performed excellently," War Eagle paused, then continued, "Now, I’ll announce something—from today, Fengzi officially joins our squad. Welcome him, everyone. Let’s give him a round of applause."
"Clap, clap, clap!" They all applauded. Each knew of Qin Feng’s achievements—his sniping skills rivaled the King of Snipers, and he had completed real combat missions with impressive results.
"Good. We all know Fengzi—he’s our third squad’s sniper. Now, let’s each introduce ourselves so Fengzi can get to know everyone," War Eagle looked around, then fixed his gaze on Qin Feng, his expression solemn. "Fengzi, my name is Zhang Lin, code name War Eagle. I’m the captain and commander of the third squad. You can call me Captain or War Eagle."
War Eagle was not only the squad captain but also the commander. In battle, the commander generally served as captain and was responsible for tactical planning and on-site direction, requiring an overall grasp of the situation—a vital role. If the commander was capable, he could lead the squad to carry out missions more effectively; only those with great ability could assume this position.
"My name is Qian Weiduo, code name Long Shadow. Scout. You can call me by my code name, Long Shadow," Long Shadow said, looking at Qin Feng. As scout, he was responsible for intelligence gathering—enemy targets, numbers, locations, movements, firepower, and so on—and then provided this information to the squad, enabling them to complete missions more efficiently.
"My turn. I’m Liu Jinhan, demolitions expert. My code name is Black Wolf; you can call me Black Wolf," Black Wolf said, looking at Qin Feng. He was passionate about grenades, mines, and such, and had a natural talent for them, able to create all sorts of tricks. His demolitions ability was formidable, and the demolitions expert’s task was to destroy obstacles hindering the mission or attack targets. Black Wolf often completed his tasks smoothly, with a success rate above ninety-seven percent.
"That leaves me. No need to say much—I’m the assault specialist. My name is Sun Zhihong, code name Snow Leopard," Snow Leopard said, turning to Qin Feng. His role was vital, responsible for covering, breaking through, annihilating, harassing, and conducting guerrilla operations. He was tasked with penetrating enemy lines, launching surprise attacks, and eliminating enemies. The assault specialist was like a sharp blade, tearing open enemy defenses and striking at their vulnerable points with speed, precision, and ferocity, enabling them to break through and deal with the enemy more effectively, thus ensuring mission success.
Each introduced themselves sincerely, and Qin Feng nodded to show he understood. After everyone had finished, War Eagle looked at the group, his face serious, and spoke.
"Now, everyone’s acquainted. From now on, we’ll address each other by code name. These code names are earned through strength, recognized and recorded by all. Chengzi, you don’t have a code name yet. That will come in time; your code name will be earned through your own achievements in battle. If you prove yourself strong enough, you’ll have one too. Do you understand?"
