Chapter Fifty: Unexpectedly, It Was a Snake!
"Understood," Qin Feng replied. He knew that Su Yun was constantly teaching him, and he needed to keep training, continually improving his own skills. Only then would he live up to Su Yun’s expectations and not betray the kindness she showed him.
"Good. Now go eat. After this afternoon’s training module, we’ll continue with stealth exercises tonight," Su Yun instructed.
"Yes," Qin Feng responded. Su Yun nodded, and Qin Feng headed toward the dining hall.
"Perhaps, one day, Qin Feng will create a miracle," Su Yun murmured as she watched his figure disappear into the distance. She had always believed in his potential, sensing that it had yet to be fully unearthed. If he could unlock all that was hidden within him, he would become a true powerhouse, and perhaps even accomplish the miraculous.
Time slipped by, and afternoon came and went.
After dinner at dusk, Su Yun found Qin Feng and led him into the training forest. Once there, she explained the key points of stealth training in detail. Qin Feng listened attentively, aware this was a rare chance to improve under her personal guidance. He also understood her time was precious, so he resolved to absorb all she offered.
"Do you understand everything?" Su Yun asked, covering any points Qin Feng was unsure of. She could see the seriousness in his demeanor and was committed to teaching him well, determined to elevate his sniping skills.
"Yes, I’ve basically grasped it," Qin Feng nodded. He had listened with utmost focus, absorbing her lessons.
"Good. Now, begin your training. Tonight, you’ll remain in this part of the forest," Su Yun instructed, gesturing at the woods around them.
By then, the moon had already risen, casting silver light over the forest and shrouding it in a gauzy veil. The scene was enchanting, the woods tranquil, broken only by the chirping of insects and calls of nocturnal creatures.
"Yes," Qin Feng replied. He plunged into the moonlit forest, soon finding a spot surrounded by dense shrubs—an ideal place for sniping and concealment.
He recalled Su Yun’s teachings: in the undergrowth, one could gather branches and leaves to craft camouflage, blending oneself into the surroundings. This technique was useful in both training and on the battlefield.
"This spot will do for stealth sniping practice," Qin Feng thought. He carefully observed his surroundings, collected branches and leaves, and quickly wove a disguise. Draping it over himself, he covered his head, leaving only his eyes exposed, and melted into the shrubbery.
From a glance, he was indistinguishable from the thicket—his camouflage was flawless. Only the most careful scrutiny would reveal nothing out of the ordinary.
"Tonight, I’ll hone my stealth sniping skills," Qin Feng resolved, a spark of determination in his eyes. He reminded himself to keep pushing his limits, striving to become a master sniper.
He was keenly aware of Su Yun’s expectations and was determined not to let her down.
With this conviction, he calmed his mind and began his training, controlling his breathing and imagining himself as just another bush, merging with the forest around him. Before long, he entered a profound state of tranquility.
Watching Qin Feng settle in, Su Yun’s face softened with a trace of satisfaction. She could see his earnest dedication to practice and his steady progress in marksmanship. She believed he would continue to improve.
With one last look, she turned and vanished into the forest in a few swift leaps.
Time slipped by quietly. Soon, the sounds of insects and the calls of birds and beasts returned to the woods, as if the creatures were foraging or returning to their nests for the night.
The moonlight was gentle and bright as silk, the breeze stirring the leaves, the forest under the night sky exuding a serene beauty. All seemed peaceful, and who could have guessed that a person was hidden here?
A sudden screech rang out—a horned owl had spotted a mouse. It swooped down, talons outstretched, snatched its prey, and quickly disappeared, never guessing that Qin Feng was lurking nearby.
Even after the owl had gone, Qin Feng remained perfectly still. He understood this was normal—the wildlife believed there was no one here and thus hunted freely.
He felt satisfied with his performance so far.
He continued his vigil, practicing breathing techniques and restoring his energy, ever observant, attuned to every sound, every insect and animal in the vicinity.
Time flowed on. The moon slowly climbed to its zenith before beginning its descent. The forest remained tranquil.
At some point, Qin Feng sensed a faint aura of danger approaching—a subtle shift that set his nerves on edge. He listened intently, catching a faint rustling sound, so slight that only his heightened focus allowed him to detect it. Something was drawing near.
"What could it be?" Qin Feng wondered, alert but calm. He didn’t know what it was, but the sense of danger was undeniable. He watched, unmoving, patiently waiting, every sense on high alert, his breath held, ready for whatever might come.
Soon, the presence approached, not far from him now. Shifting his gaze, he caught sight of it—a large snake, perhaps four or five meters long, its tongue flicking in and out as it probed its surroundings, clearly on the hunt.
"So, it’s a snake," Qin Feng thought coolly. He remembered the giant serpent he’d encountered in the training forest days before and grew even more vigilant. Quietly, he drew his military knife, angling the blade toward the snake, prepared to fight at a moment’s notice. If the serpent came closer, Qin Feng would not hesitate to strike. He had no intention of sitting idly by and letting danger get the better of him.
