Chapter Forty-Seven: Nighttime Sniper Training!
Time slipped by, and the afternoon passed in a blink. After dinner at dusk, Su Yun took Qin Feng outside into the training jungle. There, she taught him the fundamentals of sniping, imparting her own techniques. Qin Feng listened, utterly enthralled, realizing for the first time just how much there was to learn about the art of the sniper.
"Did you understand everything?" Su Yun looked at Qin Feng and asked.
"Ninety percent," Qin Feng replied.
"Very well. I hope you'll train diligently and continue to improve your sniping skills. Now, it's time for concealment training," Su Yun instructed.
"Now, begin your sniper concealment training," she said, casting her gaze over him. She understood that real skill could only be honed through tireless training. Only by constantly improving could one hope to fight effectively on the battlefield, accomplish the mission, eliminate the enemy, and claim the final victory.
"Yes," Qin Feng answered. He knew that only through unrelenting training could he strengthen his abilities and truly become powerful. Only then could he fulfill the three-year promise he had made with Su Yun.
Qin Feng strode into the training jungle and quickly concealed himself. He knew that the next challenge was sniper concealment training—a sniper's most basic skill. A sniper hides in secret, waiting motionless for the target to appear, then strikes with deadly precision. This was a foundational skill every marksman must master.
Finding a thicket, he lay prone amid the bushes and began his concealment training, gripping his sniper rifle. He understood that this training was a test of patience, willpower, and perseverance above all else. He couldn't move when insects or ants crawled across him; even when they climbed onto his body, he had to remain utterly still. Stiffness, itching, pain, and numbness could not make him flinch. Even when his mind began to falter, he had to resist every urge to move. Should Mount Tai collapse before his very eyes, he would not stir. From head to toe, except for his eyes, nothing could move. Only by enduring this could he refine his skills as a sniper in hiding.
"I will hold out. I will master the art of perfect concealment," Qin Feng vowed to himself. He was determined to persevere, to become stronger, his expression serious and intent. Whether or not anyone was watching, he would demand the utmost from himself. To become a true sniper, he had to endure hardships that ordinary people could not and make sacrifices beyond the ordinary. Only through relentless self-improvement could he grow powerful.
After a few words of instruction, Su Yun melted into the jungle with the swift grace of a hare, vanishing from sight, leaving Qin Feng alone to practice his concealment.
After about half an hour, Qin Feng's whole body ached unbearably, and he felt as though insects were crawling across his skin, itching and tormenting him. Yet he did not move—not even the slightest twitch. He forced himself to remain calm, enduring the discomfort. He reminded himself that this was only the beginning, that he had to persist, for if he failed now, he would never succeed later.
He kept himself composed and relaxed, refusing to think about the itch, the pain, or the soreness. Gradually, he ceased to feel them. He realized he could continue with his training, his eyes fixed ahead, remaining hidden.
Soon, another hour passed. Qin Feng felt his body grow rigid, sweat soaking him from head to toe in the summer heat. His forehead, eyebrows, nose, and even his hands gripping the rifle were drenched. Drops of sweat the size of peas dripped from his brow, blurring his vision and stinging the corners of his mouth with their salty taste.
A faint smile played at the corner of his lips as he blew the sweat away. "I must endure. I will persevere. I will become a master sniper," he murmured.
With clenched teeth, he pressed on, telling himself again and again that he must not falter.
Time slipped by. Another hour vanished. Zhang Cheng felt small insects crawling over him, leaves falling on him, making him unbearably uncomfortable. In that instant, the bitterness, pain, and suffering seemed to converge, as if he were being tempered in a furnace, subjected to a harsh trial. It was a torment not easily borne, but he gritted his teeth and forced himself to persist. His tenacity emerged; he would endure.
He remained motionless, suffering in silence. To distract himself, he imagined that he was part of the jungle, merging his being with the foliage around him. He knew this would help sharpen his focus—a vital skill for a concealed sniper.
Qin Feng reminded himself to constantly push his limits, to continuously improve his abilities. Only by doing so could he one day fight more effectively on the battlefield and accomplish his missions.
Unaware of how much time had passed, Qin Feng found his vision beginning to blur, unable to clearly see what lay ahead. He quickly inhaled, using his cultivation techniques to adjust his state and recover. But the target before him grew ever more indistinct; Zhang Cheng realized he was nearing his limit and swiftly closed his eyes.
He began to focus inward, searching for his target—the leaf he had observed earlier. The breeze set it fluttering, making it a difficult mark to aim at. Training with a stationary target was the standard first step, but Su Yun clearly wanted him to advance more rapidly, encouraging him to practice by treating moving targets as his aim.
Qin Feng thought highly of Su Yun's training methods. Without hesitation, he put her techniques into practice and began training in earnest.
Soon, he felt that the constraints binding his body were loosening. His limbs grew less stiff, his breathing smoothed, and his blood flowed freely. It was as if every cell in his body was suffused with delight. The sensation was so marvelous that he nearly cried out. This was the joy of surpassing his limits.
He knew he had broken through. The training was indeed highly effective, and he resolved to keep pushing himself, to continuously refine his sniping skills.
"As expected, Su Yun's methods are truly effective," Qin Feng said to himself. He trained with even greater diligence, determined to keep improving, to become stronger, and one day, to surpass Su Yun herself.
