Chapter Forty-Five: I Must Achieve Outstanding Results!
"Alright, let's keep watching," said the captain. He sensed that he had figured something out, and believed that with Su Yun's insight, she might have already noticed it as well. Perhaps she was seeking something deeper, so he thought they should continue observing; this way, it would be easier to identify special forces soldiers with sniper potential.
Time passed, and an hour went by. Qin Feng showed no sign of stopping, while the other slim recruit and Liang Xiaoyu had already given up. Only Qin Feng persisted, and another box of newly loaded bullets had been emptied. He kept shooting, while the other team members went off to eat. Qin Feng alone trained as if his life depended on it, seemingly determined to achieve his best performance. It was clear he was pushing himself to the limit for a good result.
“Hmm?” Su Yun murmured quietly, noticing that Qin Feng truly was different. He exuded a steadfast determination; she had not misjudged him. His fighting spirit was strong and resilient. She hadn't expected him to last four hours—this was his first sniper training, and such results were impressive. Few special forces soldiers could manage this.
"Have you noticed something?" the captain asked, glancing at Su Yun with a smile. He sensed his sister might have discovered something. As her brother, he understood her well; her gaze was sharp and her judgment of people always accurate.
"He's a bit different," Su Yun replied. She saw immense potential in Qin Feng; if nurtured, he could keep improving. She hoped he might one day surpass her and believed it was possible.
"He's endured for a very long time—not many can do that," said the captain. He felt Qin Feng was exceptionally tough, able to persist this long. Such endurance was rare even in the Xionghu Special Forces squad, making him stand out as extraordinary.
"Yes, he’s already surpassed you in terms of persistence. Though your sniping skills are excellent, I think he’ll surpass you in the future," Su Yun said. She knew Qin Feng’s potential was immense; someone like him was formidable in combat.
"Oh? Are you so sure? My sniper skills are only average; my strengths lie in other areas of combat. I’m still lacking in many respects, otherwise, I would have joined the mysterious unit," the captain replied. Back then, his abilities were decent, but lacking an outstanding specialty, he failed the selection for the mysterious unit. So he came to the Southeast Military District and founded the Xionghu Special Forces squad.
"Yes. He has great potential. In the future, he might compete in the national special forces competition, maybe even win a ranking," Su Yun said, full of confidence in Qin Feng. She sensed his fighting power increasing, but more importantly, he possessed the heart of a champion—something rare and valuable.
"Really?" the captain asked.
"Absolutely," Su Yun affirmed.
"If he can help the military district achieve a ranking, I'll supply him with unlimited ammunition for training," the captain said, his eyes filled with joy. With his sister's assurance, he believed Qin Feng might greatly improve and perhaps earn a place in the national competition. As long as he didn’t finish last, that would be enough—these past years, the Southeast Military District had always been at the bottom, which was embarrassing. Maybe Qin Feng would change that.
"You say he has great potential—how can you tell?" the captain asked, confusion on his face. He had made his judgment after much observation, recognizing Qin Feng’s promising sniping skills, but he wondered how his sister could see it so clearly. Was her insight truly that precise?
At that moment, the captain thought of a possibility—perhaps Qin Feng’s sniping skills had been taught by his sister.
If so, Su Yun’s arrival at the Xionghu Special Forces squad was likely to instruct Qin Feng.
That kid Qin Feng was proving himself to be quite remarkable.
The captain mused to himself, though he didn’t dwell on it. Qin Feng’s abilities were steadily improving—he was a special forces soldier worth cultivating.
"I’ll go over and test him," Su Yun said, and the captain nodded. She left the barracks and headed toward the shooting range.
“How are you feeling?” Su Yun approached Qin Feng, asking quietly. She could see he was training relentlessly and likely exhausted, so she wanted to know how he was faring.
“I’m alright,” Qin Feng replied. The sniper instructor had changed; it was now a female sniper coach. Her voice sounded familiar, but he didn’t think much of it and continued his shooting practice, firing off another sniper round.
“Not bad. Your constitution surpasses most—truly a product of life in the jungle,” Su Yun thought to herself. Qin Feng’s physical strength was impressive; if it were anyone else, they might have already fainted from dehydration, let alone continued shooting. Her assessment of Qin Feng’s potential rose another notch; she felt she could keep digging out his capabilities and make him even stronger.
She decided to test the effectiveness of Qin Feng’s shooting training and said, “Target number eight, ten rounds, begin now.” With that, she picked up a telescope specialized for shooting observation.
“Understood,” Qin Feng replied, fully aware that Su Yun wanted to evaluate his shooting results.
“I must achieve a good score,” Qin Feng told himself, closing his eyes. He took a deep breath, relaxed his body, and carefully controlled his breathing. When his eyes no longer felt strained, he opened them and quickly aimed at target eight. In that instant, a sharp gleam flashed in his eyes, and Su Yun sensed his aura ignite, like a blade unsheathing. She was a little surprised—after just a few days, Qin Feng’s abilities had improved significantly. While she was caught off guard, Qin Feng fired swiftly.
Bang! A bullet whistled through the air, disappearing into the distance.
“Ten rings,” Su Yun said calmly, reporting the score. She marked Qin Feng’s shot—a necessary record to tally the final results and assess his shooting ability.
