Chapter 127: Chase Them All Down!
At that moment, Qin Feng and the others quickened their pace. Unaware that the Red Skeleton had begun to suspect they might be fleeing northwest, he led the war hawks and the others swiftly through the dense jungle, leaving fleeting shadows in their wake. They needed to escape this forest quickly, to reach a safe haven before they could truly claim they had broken through. The jungle was terrifying—calling it the Death Forest would not be an exaggeration.
Soon, Qin Feng and his group emerged beyond the misty veil of the Fog Forest. Glancing around, they saw no traces of mist nor the dreaded man-eating ants. They had finally escaped the deadly fog and those crimson ants, which were nothing less than horrifying predators. The poisonous mist was a killer, and the scarlet ants were even more fearsome—a nightmare come to life.
Yet, a faint sense of danger prickled Qin Feng’s senses. He concealed himself behind a tree and, through his Type 88 sniper rifle, scanned the area behind them. In the distance, he saw figures in pursuit, moving swiftly. Pondering the situation, he concluded they were not from the Viper faction; instead, they might be mercenaries from the Blood Skeleton Corps.
But how had they caught up so quickly? Could it be that they had tracked them by following the shifting currents of the Fog Forest’s mist? If so, their judgment was extraordinary—this was no ordinary foe, but someone remarkably cunning and formidable.
“The Blood Skeleton Corps truly lives up to its fearsome reputation,” Qin Feng murmured to himself. The mercenaries were indeed powerful. Among them could be a terrifyingly twisted expert. He and his comrades had to remain vigilant if they wanted to leave this place unharmed.
“Everyone, increase your speed! We need to put distance between us and the enemy—they’re closing in,” Qin Feng urged the war hawks and the others. They, too, noticed the approaching figures and nodded in agreement before pressing onward.
Qin Feng considered himself fortunate; they had managed not to provoke any of the dreadful creatures like the man-eating ants, nor had they been tainted by the poisonous weapons within the Fog Forest. Otherwise, he shuddered to think how their fate might have ended. This thought sent chills down his spine.
Leading his group swiftly beyond the forest’s treacherous boundary, they sensed the enemy had caught wind of their escape. Uncertain of their numbers, Qin Feng knew they had to flee fast to ensure their safety.
The presence of the Blood Skeleton Corps unnerved him deeply. Their strength was undeniable.
“No matter what, I must ensure everyone withdraws safely,” he vowed silently, his eyes steeled with determination. Whatever the cost, he would see them all safely back.
---
They sprinted through the jungle at breakneck speed, leaving blurred afterimages behind. Meanwhile, from the original group of over two thousand, fewer than six hundred remained—an appalling loss. It was a brutal reminder that human strength could not rival the forces of nature; nature’s power far exceeded mortal comprehension.
Viper’s face darkened with rage, his whole body trembling. He had been certain of victory when encircling Qin Feng’s group, yet this catastrophic defeat had nearly wiped out his entire force. How could he explain this failure? Returning without his men would doom any hopes of rising within the organization.
Moreover, he anticipated severe punishment upon his return. His expression twisted as anger consumed him. The more he thought about it, the more furious he became.
The fire of rage ignited in his eyes burned fiercely, radiating a chilling murderous aura that seemed to drop the surrounding temperature by dozens of degrees—as if plunging into a millennia-old glacier, icy and merciless.
“Qin Feng, you and your group will not escape. You will be annihilated,” Viper declared coldly. No matter what, he would not let them off so easily.
He could not believe that leading over two thousand men had ended in such disgrace, and that he had failed to eliminate Qin Feng. The thought sent shivers down his spine. Determined, he vowed to see Qin Feng and his companions torn apart limb by limb to satiate his burning hatred.
Suddenly, Qin Feng felt an intense surge of danger, his scalp tingling as if someone sought to utterly destroy him. As he ran, the peril grew palpable. “Could it be that someone has marked me for death?” he wondered.
Considering the heavy losses suffered by their enemies, Qin Feng suspected they would relentlessly pursue them.
“Everyone, hide for a moment. I’ll assess how many enemies remain,” he instructed the war hawks. The pursuers were closing in aggressively. If they continued running blindly, their chances of being caught would rise. Stealth was essential to reduce the likelihood of detection and to facilitate a safer escape.
---
“Understood,” came the earnest replies. They recognized Qin Feng’s judgment as sound. Scanning their surroundings, they saw many enemies swarming rapidly, running in all directions without clear targets. If discovered, the entire hostile force would converge upon them—a terrifying prospect.
Qin Feng swiftly concealed himself behind a large tree, silently extending his Type 88 sniper rifle to survey the jungle behind. Perched on a hill overlooking the forest, he had a commanding vantage point to count enemy numbers and gauge their direction.
He estimated about three hundred remained, proof of how lethal the Fog Forest’s miasma was—it had decimated most of their foes.
The pursuers’ movements appeared aimless, indicating they had yet to spot Qin Feng’s group.
Then Qin Feng’s eyes fixed on a figure surrounded by several men. The man had triangular eyes and a cold, sinister gaze that oozed murderous intent. He barked orders fiercely—clearly a leader.
“Chase them down! Annihilate Qin Feng and his group utterly!” the man roared. It was none other than Viper, furious beyond measure. At this moment, his sole desire was to destroy Qin Feng; everything else was irrelevant.
“So ruthless—a truly sinister character. He’s the one,” Qin Feng thought swiftly, taking aim at Viper. He glanced at a nearby tree, calculated the humidity, wind speed, and other factors affecting the shot, then his entire being surged like a drawn blade. Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger.
“Whizz!” In an instant, the sniper bullet shot forth with astonishing speed.
