Chapter 94: The Most Mysterious Person in High School [Third Update]
In the afternoon, during PE class, Wang Ping waved a hand and free activity began.
Bai Qingxia walked to her usual spot, opened her backpack, and took out her textbook. Just as she was about to sit on the steps and read, she suddenly saw the crew-cut boy below glaring at her with a fierce expression.
The girl stood there helplessly.
Lu Yuanqiu called out, "Sit on the bottom step! Don't sit up there! What if someone pushes you again?"
Bai Qingxia obediently hugged her book and nodded, then walked down to the lowest step, sat quietly, and looked up at the boy.
Lu Yuanqiu nodded. "That's right, just like that."
Only then did Bai Qingxia lower her head, open the textbook resting on her knees, and wait until Lu Yuanqiu turned away. Then she lifted her gaze to his retreating back, a faint smile touching her lips.
On the basketball court, five boys stood before Wang Ping.
Aside from Lu Yuanqiu, the other four were enough to give even the PE teacher a headache.
Wang Haoran clasped his hands behind his back, shook out his center part, and kept glancing upward, completely absorbed in his hairstyle.
Gao Qiang, on the other hand, had his eyes wide open and looked very focused and serious, though he was so thin he looked like a monkey, as if one bump would snap him in two.
Then there was Zhong Jincheng, whose height seemed to shrink all at once beside the others. He adjusted his glasses, his bookish, delicate appearance making Wang Ping's vision go dark.
And then there was the boy who always stood there half-lidded and drowsy, as if merely standing still and not speaking was enough to make him fall asleep at any moment.
Only Lu Yuanqiu stood there with a smile, tanned and bright-faced, tall and powerfully built, the sort of person who actually looked like he played basketball. Wang Ping finally felt a little better.
In truth, he only taught two classes at No. 7 High School: one liberal arts class and one science class. The other liberal arts class was almost entirely girls, so there was no hope for a basketball team there.
That meant the only source of hope for Wang Ping was Class 28 of senior year, and even PE teachers liked to compare themselves with one another.
But the group in front of him...
Wang Ping clicked his tongue. "Your team seems to have a pretty serious problem... Did you buy jerseys?"
Wang Haoran nodded. "Yes."
Wang Ping looked at him. "You're the captain?"
Wang Haoran opened his mouth, then quietly glanced at Lu Yuanqiu and said, "We haven't picked a captain yet."
Wang Ping decided on his own. "Then I will. Lu Yuanqiu is the captain."
"Mission accepted!" Lu Yuanqiu snapped to attention, his expression solemn.
Wang Haoran actually wanted to be captain. If he hadn't known Lu Yuanqiu could dunk, he would have really wanted to fight for it.
But Lu Yuanqiu truly stood alone when it came to athletic talent. That had already been proven at the sports meet, so even if Wang Haoran was unhappy, there was nothing he could do.
Wang Ping asked, "How good are you boys at basketball, really?"
Wang Haoran shook his center part again and said confidently, "Almost perfect."
"Perfect? Look at the lot of you, one more listless than the next. I really don't have much confidence. There's only a week left, so after school every day, get serious about some conditioning, understand?" Wang Ping said sternly.
Lu Yuanqiu raised his hand. "Report!"
Wang Ping turned his head. "Just say it. Why are you reporting?"
Lu Yuanqiu smiled and pointed to the side. "Zhong Jincheng isn't just good at basketball, he's also amazing at jerking off. One good time and he turns into an unstoppable force on the court. Total monster."
Wang Ping frowned. "What are you talking about?"
Zhong Jincheng's expression stiffened as he ground out through clenched teeth, nearly biting his teeth to pieces. "Teacher, don't listen to his nonsense. Lu Yuanqiu's brain is completely broken."
Wang Ping frowned. "Your team really does look hopeless. And you... you, what was your name again? Zheng Yifeng? How many hours do you even sleep at night?"
Zheng Yifeng half-closed his eyes, as if he hadn't heard a thing.
Lu Yuanqiu caught a faint snoring sound. He turned in surprise and reached out to tap Zheng Yifeng. "Hey, man, wake up. Winter break's started."
Zheng Yifeng immediately opened his eyes and looked around in confusion. Realizing he was still on the basketball court, he shot Lu Yuanqiu a speechless glance and then drifted back into drowsiness.
Wang Ping said, "Hopeless..."
Just then, a sweet voice came from the side.
"Teacher Wang!"
As if sensing something, Zheng Yifeng's gaze gradually sharpened. He half-opened those phoenix eyes of his, and in his field of vision appeared a beautiful woman wearing a sheer dress and black stockings.
Lu Yuanqiu turned his head in silence and found that Zheng Yifeng had woken up on his own.
"Teacher Wang! Still lecturing students?" Su Miaomiao said with a smile as she came over and handed Wang Ping a bottle of drink. Wang Ping accepted it with a grin.
At the sight of her, Zheng Yifeng frowned.
"Oh? It's you boys?" Su Miaomiao said warmly when she saw Lu Yuanqiu and the others, greeting them with a smile.
She had a naturally sweet manner, not only looking sweet, but speaking sweetly too.
"Hello, teacher!"
They all hurried to respond, except Zheng Yifeng, who was still staring fixedly at the water bottle in Wang Ping's hand.
Zhong Jincheng's face turned red as he pressed his legs together and asked, "Teacher Su, why are you here?"
Su Miaomiao looked over. "Ah, I'm here to have dinner with Teacher Wang. We're going to the fourth floor tonight for some mini hotpot. Do you want to come along?"
Zhong Jincheng grinned. "Sure, sure!"
Wang Ping clicked his tongue. "What business do you have butting in?"
Zhong Jincheng stopped grinning.
At that moment, Gao Qiang asked in a gossipy tone the question everyone had been curious about all along. "Teacher Wang, Teacher Su, are you... a couple?"
At those words, Zheng Yifeng's brow knitted tight again.
Wang Ping's old face went red, and he took a sip of water without saying anything. Su Miaomiao, however, waved her hands repeatedly. "No, no, how did that rumor get twisted like that? Teacher Wang and I were classmates in college. We've known each other for a long time, and we're good friends."
Gao Qiang continued smiling. "So there's still hope you might become a couple?"
Wang Ping took another sip of water, his face still red.
Su Miaomiao frowned in mock annoyance. "Gao Qiang! Why aren't you properly studying English instead of worrying about this all day? Do you know your English score dropped in this month's exam?"
Gao Qiang immediately behaved himself.
Only then did Su Miaomiao look at Wang Ping again, holding her stomach. "How much longer? I'm getting a little hungry."
Wang Ping said, "Wait a bit longer. I'm giving these losers a talking-to. One and all, they don't have a shred of manliness, and their basketball is probably even worse. How are they supposed to compete? How are they supposed to take the championship? I heard Zhang Yifei from the second year can even dunk."
At that moment, Zheng Yifeng suddenly lifted his head. "We're not losers."
Wang Ping set down the bottle and looked at the boy who now seemed fully awake.
He asked, "Not losers? Can you beat me?"
Zheng Yifeng fixed his eyes on him. "We can try."
Wang Ping laughed, nodded, and handed the drink to Su Miaomiao. "Here, Miaomiao, hold this for me. I'll spar with Zheng Yifeng."
"Are you serious, man?" Zhong Jincheng turned to look at Zheng Yifeng.
Wang Ping was one of the school's famously tough men, able to do twenty pull-ups with one hand. And Zheng Yifeng actually dared to challenge him one-on-one?
Lu Yuanqiu curled his lip and quietly stepped back.
In high school, Lu Yuanqiu had always thought Zheng Yifeng was a very mysterious person.
If anyone on the team was most likely to inspire an earth-shaking kind of surprise, in his view, it would be:
the Sleeping God, Zheng Yifeng.
