Chapter 93: Zhang Yifei
“Brother Qiu!”
“Oh, it’s Shuangzi. Come on, sit down and eat with me.”
Lu Yuanqiu cheerfully waved Cao Shuang over and had him sit across from him.
At noon, he had planned to drag Bai Qingxia along for lunch, but the girl still could not get used to eating at that hour and had turned him down.
“So your surname is Cao, fine, but why on earth is your name Shuang?”
Lu Yuanqiu teased him with a grin.
Cao Shuang did not mind at all. “So what? My goddess is named Shuang too!”
“Who?”
“Chu Yuxun!”
Lu Yuanqiu froze, his expression stiffening.
Assuming Lu Yuanqiu had not watched the show, Cao Shuang explained, “Meteor Shower, you know? That show that only just started airing not long ago. It’s huge. You didn’t watch it, Brother Qiu?”
With that, he began to sing, “The meteors fly, and carry me away. I’m willing to streak across your world~”
“All right, all right, enough, don’t butcher it. I know what you mean.”
Lu Yuanqiu quickly lifted a hand.
He remembered now. Cao Shuang was utterly obsessed with the actress who played Chu Yuxun, and had collected all kinds of posters, postcards, cards, and the like.
But, Shuangzi, how was he supposed to tell him that the Shuangzi he liked in the future would end up...
Forget it. Lu Yuanqiu lowered his head and went back to his meal.
Boys did not have it easy when they started chasing stars. Better not shatter his fantasy.
“Brother Qiu, have you heard? Our Seventh High School’s basketball tournament has teamed up with the Star Beauty Cinema next door. The champion team not only gets a trophy, but every player on the team also gets five movie vouchers for any screening.”
“Really? Is there a prize for the team MVP?”
“There is!” Cao Shuang stuffed a big mouthful of rice into his mouth and said with a smile, “They get to lead the calisthenics at the long break!”
“What a ridiculous prize...”
Lu Yuanqiu was still grumbling when his gaze suddenly went in one direction, because a group of people with unfriendly faces was walking over from there.
The reason they caught Lu Yuanqiu’s attention was that they were all tall and solidly built, and a cluster of them appearing in the cafeteria was hard not to notice.
“Are you Lu Yuanqiu?”
The tall boy at the front asked. Lu Yuanqiu glanced up and noticed a stud hole in the lower lip of the boy’s mouth.
“That’s me. What do you want?”
“I heard you play basketball pretty well. Want to spar on the court tonight?”
The studded-lip boy spoke as if making a normal invitation, but his tone was thick with contempt. Especially his expression and eyes, which looked like he was sizing Lu Yuanqiu up and dismissing him at the same time.
Cao Shuang snorted. “Isn’t that Liu Yang from the school team? Is that really how you should be talking to your senior?”
Then he turned to Lu Yuanqiu and said, “Brother Qiu, this guy’s one of Zhang Yifei’s lackeys.”
Zhang Yifei...
Hearing that name, Lu Yuanqiu, who had originally thought this was only a routine provocation, suddenly grew serious.
In the future, Zhang Yifei’s father, Zhang Zhisheng, would be his sworn enemy in both business and life.
His son, Zhang Yifei, would naturally be no exception.
Lu Yuanqiu instinctively glanced around. If Zhang Yifei’s lackey had come to pick a fight, did that mean Zhang Yifei was nearby too?
Hearing the words “lackey,” Liu Yang’s expression visibly darkened. He looked at Cao Shuang mockingly. “You’re the freaking lackey! From where I’m standing, you’re the one acting like Lu Yuanqiu’s lackey, aren’t you?”
Cao Shuang laughed at that and looked at Lu Yuanqiu. “Brother Qiu, who’d have thought this bastard actually has decent eyes.”
Then he stood up and swayed his head with the shameless swagger of a street bully. “Damn right, I am Brother Qiu’s lackey. So what? Not happy?”
“If you want to challenge my Brother Qiu to a game, you’re not even worth the trouble. Tell Zhang Yifei to come himself. Otherwise, the only person you’re fit to challenge is me, his lackey. No need for Brother Qiu to show up at all. I can still beat the hell out of you!”
“You—”
“What’s the matter, want to fight?!”
Liu Yang glared and stepped forward, and a group of broad-shouldered school team members moved up behind him. Compared with them, Cao Shuang, at five foot ten, did seem a little underwhelming.
But Cao Shuang had enough nerve and enough of a hard-bitten temper. When he stared back, his presence was not weak in the slightest.
Cao Shuang shouted back, “You think you’ve got the numbers, huh?! Where are my people?! What the hell are all of you standing around for?!”
As soon as he finished speaking, quite a few boys among the diners on the first floor of the cafeteria put down their chopsticks and gathered over at once. They stood behind Cao Shuang in a dense black mass.
The two sides confronted each other, while Lu Yuanqiu sat calmly in the middle, eating his meal, though his eyes were carefully studying the surroundings.
At last, about fifteen meters diagonally ahead, he spotted a tall figure with a broad back.
The reason he noticed it was not only because Cao Shuang had said Zhang Yifei was nearly six and a half feet tall, but also because the clothes on that figure were from an expensive foreign brand.
At this point in time, students who could afford such a brand were probably few and far between.
Directly opposite that back sat a quiet, delicate-looking girl.
The owner of the tall back went on eating at an unhurried pace. Even though the cafeteria had become so lively, he still did not turn around to look.
It seemed he was undoubtedly Zhang Yifei.
“How is it, kid? Want to compare numbers with your senior, is that it? Let me tell you, I’ve never been afraid of anyone when it comes to numbers!”
“Mm, go on. Keep talking. I’m listening.”
Suddenly, a voice came from beside another table. Lu Yuanqiu turned his head and discovered that Ge Ritian had somehow taken a seat there, calmly eating his meal.
The moment Cao Shuang saw him, his expression went blank and he instantly wilted. He hurriedly waved his hands in retreat. “Break it up, break it up. Everyone disperse!”
Liu Yang and the members of his school team also slunk away in embarrassment.
Who in Seventh High School did not know the senior-year director, Ge Ritian?
Beer belly, a string of electric scooter keys, and a stick in hand—he ruled Seventh High School of Lucheng with such force that students turned pale just hearing his name.
Lu Yuanqiu looked up and saw that the tall figure diagonally ahead had picked up his meal tray and, together with the quiet girl opposite him, was walking unhurriedly toward the trash bins. After dumping their leftovers, they left the cafeteria together.
Still no clear look at his face.
Cao Shuang swallowed and glanced at Ge Ritian before taking his seat again and eating with unusual meekness.
Ge Ritian was still wrestling with a loose thread on his shirt. He looked up at Lu Yuanqiu and asked, “Got a light? I’ll singe it off.”
Lu Yuanqiu shook his head.
Then Ge Ritian turned to Cao Shuang. “And you? Got a light?”
Cao Shuang jolted like a startled bear, looked up, and said awkwardly and nervously, “Director, what kind of question is that? If I don’t smoke, where would I get a light from...”
The moment the words left his mouth, his expression froze. The smile vanished.
Ge Ritian, however, laughed. He chuckled softly and then louder still, though that laughter slowly filled with killing intent.
