Chapter Ninety-One: Teacher, Bai Qingxia and I Cannot Be Separated [Fourth Update]
After the seven-day holiday ended, Lu Yuanqiu came to the classroom that morning and sat down in the back row. He covered his mouth and yawned, then looked dazedly at the school-uniform girl beside him.
Sensing the gaze from next to her, Bai Qingxia turned to him. "What is it?"
"Nothing. I'm sleepy. Can I borrow your legs and lie down for a bit?"
Bai Qingxia glanced at the people in the row behind them. Her fair little hands resting on her lap unconsciously tightened. She shook her head and refused in a small voice. "Not here..."
"At home I'd just lie on the bed. Why would I need to lie on your legs?"
Lu Yuanqiu waved a hand and flopped onto the desk, speechless. He looked toward Zheng Yifeng, who had just come in. After putting down his backpack, that handsome face pressed straight onto the desk with a thud, and in three seconds he was asleep.
Damn it, born with explosive talent!
Lu Yuanqiu stared.
At that moment, the classroom door was slapped, and the students looked up to see their homeroom teacher, Liu Wei, standing at the entrance.
The plump woman adjusted her glasses and said sternly, "We agreed to rearrange the seats according to the monthly exam results after National Day. Pack up and come out."
Hearing this, Lu Yuanqiu was slightly stunned.
Bai Qingxia's expression changed at once.
"Zheng Yifeng, get up! Seat rearrangement!"
"Zheng Yifeng!"
Chen Fei shook Zheng Yifeng like a dead pig. She was not worried in the slightest about whether she could sit with him.
Because their scores almost always ended up together by some strange coincidence. Zheng Yifeng had always held steady at the bottom ten of the class, and in the grade rankings, he also remained firmly first in the last examination hall, never off by even a little.
Everyone shouldered their backpacks and went out into the corridor, forming two lines according to this month's exam results.
Zhong Jincheng, as usual, applied to sit in the back of the classroom, so standing at the very front of the line were Bai Qingxia and another girl, the third highest in the class.
Once the line was formed, Bai Qingxia, standing in the first row, silently turned back and met Lu Yuanqiu's eyes. Her expression was complicated, as if a little sad. Then she slowly turned around again and lowered her head.
"Teacher."
Suddenly, Lu Yuanqiu's lazy voice came from behind.
Liu Wei looked over. "What? What's the matter?"
Lu Yuanqiu said blankly, "Bai Qingxia and I can't be separated."
For a moment, the air fell silent for several seconds. Then everyone in front turned around in unison, faces full of surprise. All except Bai Qingxia; she did not turn back, but her lowered head lifted slightly.
Hu Caiwei frowned tightly, and Zheng Yifeng raised an eyebrow as if this were only natural.
Liu Wei snapped, "What do you mean, can't be separated? What's going on? Are you getting addicted to sitting with our Qingxia or what?"
The whole class burst into laughter.
At the very front, Bai Qingxia lowered her head again, her earlobes turning faintly red.
Lu Yuanqiu opened his mouth, paused to organize his thoughts, and then continued, "First, hasn't my improvement in grades raised Class 28's average a lot?"
Liu Wei had been about to object, wondering if that little bit of score could really send him to heaven, but then she paused. Come to think of it, yes. Lu Yuanqiu had been terribly weak before. Even if this time he still wasn't that great, the improvement was huge.
On his own, he really had pulled the class average up a bit...
Liu Wei: "Mm, go on."
Lu Yuanqiu: "Second! My grades improved basically because Bai Qingxia patiently tutored me, so if I keep sitting with her, my成绩 will keep improving too."
Liu Wei nodded and shrugged indifferently. "So what? Who cares?"
Damn, isn't that reason enough? What the hell? Lu Yuanqiu was shocked.
He thought for two or three seconds, then looked up and said earnestly, "Next time! I'll make Class 28's average score surpass Class 29's! I'll make Teacher Cao Yan bow her proud head to you!"
Liu Wei looked at the boy and suddenly fell silent.
This woman, proud all her life, fell silent.
She lowered her head, licked her lips, then compromised with a nod. "Fine."
Lu Yuanqiu smiled.
Liu Wei said, "Don't be happy yet. I still need to ask Qingxia for her opinion. Only if she's willing can you two keep sitting together."
"I am willing."
The girl's voice came quickly from beside him.
Liu Wei froze, turning her head in surprise.
I haven't even asked yet...
Bai Qingxia nervously tugged at the sides of her clothes with her small hands. Her earlobes flushed red as she said, "I... I want to keep helping him with his studies, so he can improve... and raise the class average."
Hearing this explanation, Liu Wei instantly grinned from ear to ear. "Good, good, good, all right, all right. Qingxia is really thoughtful. Then you two can sit together."
Lu Yuanqiu: "There's one more thing."
Liu Wei impatiently looked up. "Why do you have so much business? Say it!"
Lu Yuanqiu: "We want to keep sitting in the original seats."
"Why?"
Of course, so it would be easier to sneak little things during class... but he definitely couldn't explain it like that, so Lu Yuanqiu dumped the blame on Bai Qingxia.
"She wants to sit in the back."
Liu Wei immediately looked at Bai Qingxia for confirmation.
The girl froze, then quickly looked up. Though she still hadn't reacted, she hurriedly nodded.
The two of them carried their backpacks back to their original seats. Turning around, the back row was still the same group as before.
Zhong Jincheng silently shoved a roll of tissues into his desk compartment, as if engaged in some underground operation.
The biological duo bent over to pick at their feet. Chen Fei happily arranged her idol merchandise on the desk. Zheng Yifeng gave Lu Yuanqiu a handsome raise of the eyebrow, then flopped down to sleep.
Lu Yuanqiu withdrew his gaze and saw Bai Qingxia smiling as she stuffed her pink backpack into the desk compartment, looking as though she was in a very good mood.
In a good mood? So was he.
Sometimes, when looking back, what moment from school days is most worth remembering?
Meeting an old deskmate again after a seat rearrangement—probably one of them.
During the long break.
After returning from exercises, Lu Yuanqiu took off his jacket and lay back in his chair. Turning his head, he saw that Bai Qingxia was still copying her notes.
The notebook was thick, and she had already written to the last few pages.
Aside from the Monday flag-raising ceremony, Bai Qingxia never went downstairs for exercises during the long break. It was a special privilege granted by the homeroom teacher.
She simply liked spending this time alone and quietly in the classroom, either reading or doing homework.
Just then, when the girl put down her pen and leaned back with a relaxed smile on her face, Lu Yuanqiu asked, "Finished copying?"
"Mm."
He leaned closer and clicked his tongue. "As expected of a top student. Such a serious attitude toward studying. So many notes, such a thick notebook, and you kept at it for so many days until you finished. Admirable, admirable. If it were me, I'd give up after copying just a few pages."
At that, Bai Qingxia turned to stare at him in a daze. Something changed on her delicate face, and her gaze drifted a little.
Lu Yuanqiu took the notebook and said with a cheeky grin, "Heh heh, let me borrow it for a few days first. Since you copied it yourself, you must still remember it pretty well. No rush."
Hearing this, Bai Qingxia took the notebook back. Lu Yuanqiu was stunned and was just about to say the girl was stingy when he saw her lower her head and, picking up a pen, carefully write three sharp yet graceful characters on the first page of the notebook.
Lu Yuanqiu
When she finished, the girl lifted her pure little face, capped the pen, slightly lowered her head, and said with pursed lips, "This is a gift from me to you."
When the monthly votes on the reading app increased by another five hundred, and the same happened on the original publishing site, we still owe two chapters, which I'll make up in the updates on the fifth and seventh. Thanks to Breathing in Sync with Longing for the 15,000 reading coins tipped.
