Chapter 46: Your Wife! [First Update]
Lu Yuanqiu’s actions made the “Sleeping God” of Class 28, Zheng Yifeng, rare to see a glint of interest in his eyes.
For the first time, he truly looked at his classmate Lu Yuanqiu—the boy with whom he’d spent over a year at the back of the classroom.
From the bottom of his heart, Zheng Yifeng felt that since the start of this term, Lu Yuanqiu had been acting very differently, very differently indeed.
Had he become a new person?
Not exactly.
He was still the same buzz-cut kid, fond of goofing around and unashamed to the point of being shameless.
But this semester, Zheng Yifeng discovered a unique charm about him that hadn’t been there before.
For example:
During PE class, he had decisively thrown a basketball, interrupting a girl who was bullying a fellow student, and had, with righteous indignation, scolded her in front of everyone, unconcerned with the fact that she was a girl.
A notorious troublemaker suddenly transformed into a hero of justice—that incident left a deep impression on Zheng Yifeng, because he’d seen Lu Yuanqiu throw that ball with his own eyes.
And just now.
Lu Yuanqiu was impressive.
But he wasn’t putting on a show to grab everyone’s attention.
He was publicly challenging the injustices on campus.
Zheng Yifeng exhaled softly, folded his arms, and studied Lu Yuanqiu seriously as he walked off the stage.
What on earth had this guy gone through during the short holiday?
“Lu Yuanqiu! Stop right there!”
Ge Ritian shouted.
From a distance, Bai Qingxia saw Lu Yuanqiu being stopped by Ge Ritian. She stepped forward nervously, clenched her fists, braced herself, and hurried over.
Lu Yuanqiu noticed Bai Qingxia approaching and immediately frowned, signaling to her with his eyes.
The girl paused, understanding his intent. She stopped in her tracks, her beautiful eyes brimming with worry.
It was because of her—once again, Lu Yuanqiu was involved because of her… Bai Qingxia’s slender white fingers clenched tightly at her sides.
Seeing her stop, Lu Yuanqiu finally curved his lips into a smile. Suddenly, without warning, he puckered his lips, crossed his eyes, and wobbled his head, making a ridiculous face at Bai Qingxia from afar.
Her eyes rimmed with red, but she couldn’t help letting out a snort of laughter.
Figures flitted across the sports field.
They gazed at each other.
“How dare you! Lu Yuanqiu! Grabbing the microphone in front of everyone to spout nonsense, and now you’re making faces at me?!”
Ge Ritian’s face flushed with anger. Waving his baton, he pointed at Lu Yuanqiu, his beer belly leading the way as he strode over, the keys at his waist jingling.
Huh? At you? Lu Yuanqiu smirked. Honestly, Director, you may be flattering yourself a little too much.
“What are you up to? What did you mean just now? Which girl was locked in the bathroom?” Ge Ritian barked as he marched up to Lu Yuanqiu.
“Oh, Director, I just lost a bet and had to say a few words. Don’t take it to heart. If necessary, I’ll write a self-criticism.”
Lu Yuanqiu grinned ingratiatingly, patting Ge Ritian’s shoulder as he spoke.
“Get lost, get lost!” Ge Ritian recoiled in disgust and confirmed again, “No one was actually locked in the bathroom?”
Lu Yuanqiu put on a serious face. “No! Was someone really locked in there? Who?”
Ge Ritian eyed him suspiciously, then gave him a swift kick. “Get to your event! If you do this again, I’ll report you to the whole school!”
“Ouch, Director, take it easy!” Lu Yuanqiu stuck out his backside as he walked away.
Ge Ritian’s voice boomed from behind, “Forget the self-criticism this time. Just behave yourself from now on!”
“Got it!”
Lu Yuanqiu didn’t look back, just raised his right hand high.
After that incident where he’d stood up for a girl, Ge Ritian had developed a bit of a soft spot for Lu Yuanqiu.
Passing Bai Qingxia, Lu Yuanqiu didn’t speak to her but headed straight toward his class.
Bai Qingxia took a moment to compose herself before quietly following.
“Lu Yuanqiu! Hey! Was what you said just now true?” Zhong Jincheng hopped over, his question drawing the attention of the other boys nearby.
True or not, Lu Yuanqiu had been seriously cool just now.
“Of course it’s true,” Lu Yuanqiu replied. “I saw injustice at noon and rescued a girl.”
Zheng Yifeng gave him a thumbs up from afar. “Legendary.”
Zhong Jincheng grew anxious. “Why didn’t you tell me? We could’ve gone up there together and condemned them, taking turns! Wouldn’t that be even cooler?”
“Get lost,” Lu Yuanqiu scoffed. “You think something this serious is for you to show off? If you want to stand out, just go fire a gun on the stage. That’ll really get attention.”
“Screw you…” Zhong Jincheng ran up and playfully pummeled Lu Yuanqiu’s chest with his fists.
At that moment, Bai Qingxia returned. She glanced at Lu Yuanqiu, then quietly took her place in the corner of the class.
Lu Yuanqiu looked at her for a moment as well.
“Lu Yuanqiu! Aren’t you coming already?!” Liu Wei’s shout carried over from the shot put area. She’d pleaded with Wang Ping, who had finally agreed to move Lu Yuanqiu’s turn back a few places.
“Coming!” Lu Yuanqiu called, heading in that direction. Bai Qingxia immediately followed him.
She didn’t speak, only trailed closely behind him.
Just as she was about to reach his side, Gao Qiang suddenly ran over and slung an arm around Lu Yuanqiu’s neck. “Hey, were you copying a scene from a movie just now?”
Zhong Jincheng sidled up, grinning ingratiatingly. “Take me along next time, Brother Lu, I mean it~”
Seeing the two boys beside Lu Yuanqiu, Bai Qingxia slowed her steps. With others around, she didn’t dare talk to Lu Yuanqiu; besides, she was the only girl following behind. The other girls from Class 28 had no interest in the shot put event and had wandered elsewhere.
Bai Qingxia followed quietly, alone among the three boys, her steps growing slower and slower.
Suddenly, Lu Yuanqiu turned. “Hey, desk mate, could you hold my jacket? I’m up next.”
He slipped off his school jacket and handed it to Bai Qingxia. She seemed at last to have a reason to be following them. She hurried forward, took the jacket in both hands, and hugged it to her chest.
Gao Qiang, observing, whispered, “Lu Yuanqiu, how do you even talk to Bai Qingxia? I always feel like she’s not from our world—she’s too quiet.”
Lu Yuanqiu grinned. “Who am I? I mingle among all dimensions! If a mummy showed up, I could chat with it for hours.”
Zhong Jincheng spat, “Yeah, right!”
Bai Qingxia, following behind, listened, the faintest hint of a dimple appearing under her eyes.
Suddenly, the three boys halted, stunned by a scene in the shot put area.
Bai Qingxia stopped abruptly too, her smooth forehead nearly bumping into Lu Yuanqiu’s back.
None of the boys noticed, but as Bai Qingxia stepped back, her ears turned red.
In the shot put zone—
Currently gripping the shot was a chubby boy, nearly six-foot-three, with rugged features but a mincing, almost shy gait.
Zhong Jincheng gaped. “Whoa, Jiao Jiao!”
Gao Qiang turned to him. “Your wife’s in the shot put too?!”
Zhong Jincheng shot back, “Your wife!”
Gao Qiang retorted, “Your wife!”
Zhong Jincheng: “Your wife!!”
Gao Qiang: “Your wife!!”
Right in the middle, Lu Yuanqiu yelled, “Will you two stop fighting already!”
