Chapter 125: Heh-heh-heh— [Third Update]
It was noon.
In the hotel banquet hall, Boss Liu, dressed in a sharp suit, successfully added Lu Yuanqiu on QQ with the help of his elder and second uncles.
After entering the other boy’s name as a note, Boss Liu looked up at the crew-cut youth across from him. “Xiaoqing told me that you and Zhang Yifei, the second young master of White Rhino, are going to play an official basketball game at school?”
Lu Yuanqiu nodded. “Yes, Uncle Liu. But it’s only the semifinal for now. They haven’t even drawn lots to decide which team gets a bye and which two teams will play.”
Only after answering did Lu Yuanqiu realize that he had overlooked an important detail in Boss Liu’s words.
“Uncle Liu, you just said…the second young master?”
Boss Liu smiled. “That’s right, the second young master. He has an older brother who’s already an adult and working. His brother is no ordinary person—a rare talent. I rather admire him.”
Whether Zhang Yifei was talented or not did not interest Lu Yuanqiu.
He was simply surprised to learn that Zhang Zhisheng had two sons.
Boss Liu lightly tapped the table and smiled. “So, Xiaoqiu, are you confident you can beat Zhang Yifei? Putting everything else aside, your uncle is definitely on your side for this basketball game. Beat him, and you’ll be the man.”
Boss Liu gave him a thumbs-up from across the table.
“From this moment on, I’ll be following this basketball game all the way to the end.”
His second uncle laughed. “Come on, Lao Liu. It’s only a school basketball game. Is it really worth your attention?”
Boss Liu turned to him expressionlessly. “If Lu Yuanqiu wins the championship by beating that brat Zhang Yifei, I’ll sign a second contract with your Lu Corporation.”
“Bang!”
The second uncle suddenly slammed his hand on the table and shouted at Lu Yuanqiu with blazing fury, “Qiu’er! Beat that brat Zhang Yifei in the basketball game!”
Lu Yuanqiu: “…”
Uncle, did you learn that sudden change of attitude from Cao Shuang?
He glanced at Liu Jianqing, who was sitting nearby, and noticed that the girl’s face was truly livid. She had not said a single word since sitting down at the table.
It seemed she had been scolded by her father all morning.
Apparently, just as Song Xuanxuan had said, the Liu family’s second daughter was not favored by her father.
…
The following day, Monday.
During morning study period, Lu Yuanqiu, dressed in the school’s blue-and-white uniform, sat down at his desk. He placed his schoolbag in the compartment beneath the desk and took out his Chinese textbook.
He turned his head to the side. Bai Qingxia, who had been silently memorizing English vocabulary, looked over as well and gave him a faint smile.
Lu Yuanqiu smiled back. Just as he was about to start studying, his gaze suddenly froze on Bai Qingxia’s right hand.
He saw the bandage wrapped around it.
His heart tightened. He hurriedly seized her wrist and pulled her hand toward him. “What happened to your hand?”
Bai Qingxia explained earnestly, “Yesterday, someone who was running accidentally knocked me over. I just scraped off a layer of skin. It’s not serious.”
“Did the person who knocked you down take you to get it treated? Or did my father take you?”
“The person who knocked me down.”
“Well, that’s the least they could do.”
Lu Yuanqiu frowned as he spoke. He began undoing the tape. “If that person had just turned around and walked away, I’d have taken some people to find them and torn their arm off.”
The girl laughed happily. “She didn’t do it on purpose.”
When he lifted the gauze, Lu Yuanqiu saw the wound in her palm. It truly was not serious and had already scabbed over, but against that fair, delicate skin, it looked painfully conspicuous and made anyone who saw it feel sorry for her.
“Does your hand still hurt?”
Lu Yuanqiu looked up at her.
Bai Qingxia shook her head.
The boy immediately continued, “Actually, I know a way to make the wound heal faster.”
The girl asked curiously, “What way?”
Lu Yuanqiu smiled wickedly. “Saliva. Heh heh heh…”
As he spoke, he gripped Bai Qingxia’s wrist tighter and let out a villainous laugh. He stuck out his tongue and pretended to lick her wound.
The girl had originally been looking forward to seeing whether he really knew some miraculous treatment, but the expression on her face changed instantly.
“Don’t…”
She frowned in disgust and tried to yank her hand back, but Lu Yuanqiu held on firmly. He gave her a sinister grin.
“Don’t? Even if you scream until your throat gives out, no one will hear you, my dear Bai Qingxia. Heh heh heh…”
Suddenly—
Bang!
A book came down hard on the back of Lu Yuanqiu’s head.
“Who the hell do you think you—”
Lu Yuanqiu turned around, then immediately stood at attention.
“Good morning, Director.”
Ge Ritian glanced at the girl, who was sitting rigidly inside the desk compartment with a crimson face, then looked at Lu Yuanqiu.
“What were you doing just now?”
Lu Yuanqiu answered with complete seriousness, “Reading her palm. She has a hard fate, and she’s very—cough, anyway, it’s quite a good sign.”
Ge Ritian then looked toward Bai Qingxia. “Is that what he said?”
Bai Qingxia nodded with a flushed face, too embarrassed to look over.
“Lu Yuanqiu, I’ve warned you many times. Don’t think you can get up to anything under my nose. I’m watching you.”
Ge Ritian spoke sternly. Afterward, he hitched up the waistband of his trousers, which had been pushed down by his large belly, and turned to leave.
He had taken only one step when he turned back again.
“I almost forgot. Teacher Wang Ping asked me to tell you that the draw results are out. The championship team from Senior Year Two has received a bye. This afternoon, you’ll play the championship team from Senior Year One in the semifinal.”
With that, Ge Ritian patted Lu Yuanqiu on the shoulder.
“Play well. Don’t embarrass Senior Year Three. Got it?”
“Understood! I won’t fail in my mission!”
Lu Yuanqiu drew his legs together, stood at attention, and saluted.
“Bah, you little punk!”
Ge Ritian snorted and walked toward the classroom door, shouting as he went, “What are you all staring at me for? Morning study! Did none of you eat breakfast? The class next door is twice as loud as you lot.”
After saying that, he did not forget to raise his book and rap it once against the back of Zheng Yifeng’s head before leaving the classroom.
Zheng Yifeng, who was lying facedown on his desk, did not react at all.
After Ge Ritian left, Lu Yuanqiu turned to the girl.
“You have the kind of fate that brings your husband good fortune. And a very hard life.”
Bai Qingxia furrowed her beautiful brows and ignored him.
…
At lunchtime in the cafeteria, Lu Yuanqiu sat across from Cao Shuang. The second crew-cut youth was eating as he spoke.
“Brother Qiu, I found out. It really is just like you said. Zhang Yifei offered each member of Class Twelve’s basketball team five hundred yuan. He said he’d give them another five hundred each after they beat you.”
“Did Zhang Yifei give Jiao Jiao five hundred too?”
Cao Shuang snorted and shook his head. “Of course not. Jiao Jiao was forced onto the court by those guys from Class Twelve. Those bastards wanted her to help them earn the five hundred yuan. When they still lost, they blamed everything on her.”
Lu Yuanqiu could not help shaking his head with a sigh.
“Brother Qiu, the championship team from Senior Year One is here. They’re probably looking for trouble.”
Cao Shuang suddenly looked up to warn him.
Lu Yuanqiu turned around and saw five people approaching from behind.
There was something strange about the group. Walking at the front was a thin, undersized boy with fair skin and delicate features. He looked to be under five foot seven.
Cao Shuang reminded him, “The shortest one is their captain. He’s extremely good at dribbling.”
“Which one of you is Lu Yuanqiu from Senior Year Three? Get your ass out here!”
The undersized captain came closer and immediately started swearing. Even his voice sounded strangely feminine.
Lu Yuanqiu shook his head helplessly and ignored him, lowering his head to continue eating while preparing to let Cao Shuang handle it.
Cao Shuang was nothing if not decisive. He stood up and cursed back at the captain, whose face was delicate but whose mouth was filthy.
“Try spewing that crap at my Brother Qiu one more time!”
The pretty little captain raised an eyebrow. “I insulted him. So what?”
“So what? I’ll beat your ass!”
Cao Shuang stepped forward and shoved a hand against the other boy’s chest.
The little captain was pushed to the ground.
Cao Shuang, however, stood motionless as if someone had cast a binding spell on him, staring blankly at his own hand.
When he failed to react for several seconds, Lu Yuanqiu turned to look at him.
“What’s wrong?”
Cao Shuang turned his head stupidly.
“Brother Qiu…she’s a girl…”
End of chapter.
