Chapter 122: Uncle, Your Daughter’s Boyfriend Fights Quite Well [Fourth Update]
Lu Yuanqiu glanced at Liu Jianqing. The expression on the girl's face was somewhat unnatural.
He could roughly guess that she wanted to hand this so-called "agreement" to her boyfriend, Zhang Yifei of Baixi Food, for signing. However, she found it difficult to use her status as a "girlfriend" to make her father look favorably upon Baixi Food—or, more specifically, upon Zhang Yifei.
In fact, if she mentioned that Zhang Yifei was her boyfriend, Boss Liu might very well fly into a rage.
"In that case," Lu Yuanqiu thought to himself with a devious smirk, "before I leave today, I really must 'accidentally' let slip this little matter of puppy love to Uncle Liu."
Hearing Boss Liu’s conflicted words, the eldest uncle, despite looking troubled, smiled and said, "No rush, no rush. There’s no need to make a decision right now; we certainly have to consider everything carefully."
Boss Liu took a shot, then turned back and said, "I'll be honest with you. The benefits are the same to me regardless of which of your two companies I choose. The real question now is, to whom should I grant this favor?"
"This guy named Liu is certainly blunt; he’s already laid it all out like that..." the eldest uncle thought to himself.
The second uncle grew anxious and interjected, "We both brought our family members today; can't you see our sincerity? Old Liu, let’s be real—give us a straight answer. Don't drag this out any longer; it's gone on long enough."
Boss Liu nodded upon hearing this. He stared at the second uncle for a moment, his expression turning serious. "Fine, you want a straight answer, right?"
He tossed the basketball over, acting as if he were throwing caution to the wind. "Take the ball and play a few rounds against me. If you beat me, I’ll sign with the Lu family!"
The second uncle was suddenly exasperated. "You!"
"I haven't touched this damn thing in years!"
Just as he was about to continue his tirade, the eldest uncle suddenly raised a hand and patted his shoulder, then signaled toward Lu Yuanqiu with his eyes.
Receiving the signal, Lu Yuanqiu nodded slightly, walked over, and picked up the basketball from the ground.
Seeing this, Boss Liu smiled and said in surprise, "Oh? You play basketball, kid?"
Lu Yuanqiu scratched his head sheepishly. "Heh, not really... but both of my uncles have old bones; I couldn't possibly make them step onto the court."
Boss Liu laughed heartily. "No worries, no worries. Just you and me. If you beat me, I'll sign with you just the same."
With that, he took a wide stance, looking eager and expectant.
Seeing this, Liu Jianqing whispered, "Dad, don't play against him..."
"Go, go, go! Get out of here!" Boss Liu waved his hand impatiently, telling his second daughter to go cool off somewhere else.
He then turned back to Lu Yuanqiu and waved his hand provocatively. "Come on, kid! Let’s have a real, head-to-head showdown!"
Lu Yuanqiu nodded and stepped forward, dribbling the ball with a slightly clumsy motion. Seeing his amateurish display, the smile on Boss Liu’s face grew even wider.
Suddenly, Lu Yuanqiu charged forward. Boss Liu’s expression shifted slightly as he moved to defend, but Lu Yuanqiu used a simple feint to slip past him, leaving the older man defending thin air.
"Not bad, kid!"
He shouted, but was stunned a second later.
After breaking through from another direction, Lu Yuanqiu jumped up and delivered a powerful slam dunk!
*Bang! Hummmm—*
The rim was still vibrating and humming.
Boss Liu stared blankly at the buzz-cut young man in front of him, at a loss for words. "You..."
Lu Yuanqiu scratched his head and walked past him, looking embarrassed.
Boss Liu took a deep breath, quickly walked over to retrieve the basketball, tossed it to Lu Yuanqiu, and shouted, "Again!"
The corners of the eldest and second uncles' mouths twitched, struggling to remain composed. Song Xuanyuan looked on with adoration, while Liu Jianqing’s face darkened.
Lu Yuanqiu took the ball without a word. After inbounding, he dribbled forward with a simple crossover.
This time, Boss Liu defended with serious focus, his body spread out like a crab.
Expecting another drive to the basket, he kept backing up to defend, but once Lu Yuanqiu entered the paint, he simply lifted his hand and tossed the ball lightly.
It went in.
Boss Liu was stunned again. "I..."
"Again! That one doesn't count!"
On the third shot, Lu Yuanqiu crossed him over and delivered another powerful slam dunk.
"Again! That didn't count either!"
A fadeaway jumper—swish.
"Again! Again!"
A three-pointer—swish.
...
After ten consecutive shots, Lu Yuanqiu stood outside the three-point line, dribbling the ball with an innocent expression, his eyes now filled with a hint of pity for Boss Liu.
"You brat! How are you this good?!"
Boss Liu shouted from inside the court, his face flushed red, almost jumping in place.
"Why is he getting so worked up..." Lu Yuanqiu muttered to himself.
The eldest uncle quickly spoke up. "Old Liu, does what you said earlier still count? That’s ten shots now, and all of us here heard you—your daughter heard you too."
Boss Liu was left speechless. He looked at them, then at Lu Yuanqiu, and as if changing the subject, he pulled out his phone and stepped forward. "Brat! Add me on QQ!"
Lu Yuanqiu asked, "What’s the meaning of this, Uncle Liu?"
Standing before him, Boss Liu glared with a red face. "What do you think it means? I! Am! Not! Convinced!"
Lu Yuanqiu looked at his uncles in silence. The eldest uncle immediately pretended to be angry and waved his hand. "Add what kind of damn QQ! Qiu'er! Don't add him! Let’s just leave!"
"Understood, Uncle."
Lu Yuanqiu dropped the basketball and started to follow them. Boss Liu panicked, quickly stepping forward to grab Lu Yuanqiu’s arm, smiling ingratiatingly. "Adding is fine! It's fine! Don't leave yet! Just a few more shots! How about two? I'll definitely win the next one!"
The second uncle scoffed. "In principle, Qiu'er is the younger generation, and it's only right for him to play with his elders. But playing with an elder who doesn't keep his word is truly unnecessary. Let’s go. This meal isn't worth eating, and once I'm out, I'll tell my other friends exactly what kind of person Boss Liu is."
"Hey, hey, hey! I was just joking! Look how impatient you all are!"
Boss Liu laughed, then looked at Lu Yuanqiu. He took a deep breath, paused for a few seconds, and seemed to make a decision. "Alright, alright. Bring the contract, bring the pen. I’ll sign with the Lu family!"
With that, he looked at Lu Yuanqiu, half-jokingly and half-seriously. "But after signing, you have to finish those few shots with me, kid! I’ll definitely beat you!"
Lu Yuanqiu smiled and nodded. "Alright."
After signing his name and stamping the official seal, Lu Yuanqiu faced off against Boss Liu once more. He played the first shot seriously, but from the second shot onward, he began to intentionally go easy.
Boss Liu defended successfully and began his offense. This time, Lu Yuanqiu continued to hold back, letting Boss Liu score.
After they finished, Boss Liu took a long look at the buzz-cut young man. How could he not see that Lu Yuanqiu had been holding back? Yet, he wasn't angry; instead, he felt a growing appreciation for the boy.
"Kid, you really are good at basketball," Boss Liu said, patting Lu Yuanqiu on the shoulder with a smile.
Lu Yuanqiu quickly waved his hand. "No, no, Liu Jianqing’s boyfriend is also quite good—Zhang Yifei, you know him, right?"
The smile froze on Boss Liu’s face.
"What did you say?"
