Chapter 120: Brother Yuanqiu, it’s me, Xuanxuan.
Since it has reached this point in the line, and since Lu Yuanqiu won't be able to eat it, I might as well buy it for Dad, Bai Qingxia thought to herself.
Lu Tian had set Bai Songzhe’s working hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing three meals a day with a monthly salary of five hundred. It wasn't nine o'clock yet, and Bai Songzhe was still fast asleep in bed.
The queue for scallion pancakes ahead was shortening bit by bit. As Bai Qingxia moved forward, a middle-aged woman with curly hair saw the gap in front of the girl in the school uniform and naturally cut into the line. The girl stepped back a few paces, her small fists clenching involuntarily. Someone had cut in front of her!
The people behind saw this and were not pleased. "Hey! You there! Why are you cutting the line?!"
"Exactly! We’ve all been standing here for so long this morning, and you just come along and try to take advantage of us?"
"Go to the back of the line!"
Hearing the chorus of angry voices behind her, Bai Qingxia felt emboldened. She turned to look with a fierce glare, trying to "intimidate" the woman's back with a gaze that lacked any real bite. However, the curly-haired woman didn't react at all; she didn't turn around or utter a word of defense, as if she believed that as long as she remained thick-skinned enough to reach the front and buy her pancake, she could just walk away.
Just then, a fair-skinned hand landed on the woman’s shoulder.
"Do you really think no one dares to do anything about you?" A crisp voice came from behind.
Bai Qingxia turned and realized it was the girl who had been standing behind her. The girl wore a white tracksuit and a baseball cap, looking as if she were out for a morning jog. She grabbed the woman’s shoulder and pulled her out of the line.
"Hey! What are you doing? What are you doing?! Are you hitting me?!" The curly-haired woman finally began to shout shamelessly.
The girl in the baseball cap glared at her with her hands on her hips. "You think I wouldn't? Let me tell you, I'm not even an adult yet! Even if I did hit you, the consequences wouldn't be that bad!"
"Cutting the line is wrong in the first place!"
"What hitting? She didn't hit you at all!"
"We can all testify for this young girl!" The concerned men in the queue chimed in one after another.
The curly-haired woman glared viciously at the girl in the baseball cap, then picked up her basket and left.
Bai Qingxia stared at the face beneath the brim of the girl's cap, suddenly remembering that they had seen each other at the KTV yesterday.
"It's you?"
The girl in the baseball cap turned and recognized Bai Qingxia instantly. Although it had only been a fleeting glance yesterday, the girl’s flawless, pure face had left a deep impression. How to put it? It was that kind of clean, beautiful look that was hard to forget after seeing it once.
Bai Qingxia nodded politely, not daring to look too closely. She wasn't planning on having much interaction with this spirited girl who carried herself with such confidence.
"Are you from the Seventh High?" the girl in the cap asked, glancing at Bai Qingxia’s school uniform.
Because she didn't want to wear her new clothes on the weekend, she was still in her uniform, and she hadn't expected to be recognized. Bai Qingxia nodded again, responding softly, "Yes."
The girl in the baseball cap smiled and took off her hat, smoothing her hair to reveal a beautiful face with a hint of gallantry. She was a head taller than Bai Qingxia and reached out a slender hand enthusiastically. "I’m from Lucheng First High. Want to get to know each other? My name is Liu Wangchun."
Bai Qingxia’s earlobes turned slightly pink. She reached out her own hand, somewhat reserved, and they shook hands briefly before letting go.
"My name is Bai Qingxia," she replied in a very soft voice, her eyes never daring to look up.
Liu Wangchun murmured as if reciting poetry, "Liu Wangchun, Bai Qingxia... Spring and Summer. It seems we really are destined to meet."
Bai Qingxia nodded slightly. She was truly uncomfortable talking to strangers, and being able to respond to every sentence was already a major effort on her part.
Perhaps noticing that this pure girl was introverted and unskilled at socializing, Liu Wangchun smiled, put her hat back on while smoothing her hair, and decided not to make things difficult for her.
The queue soon reached Bai Qingxia, but the owner said apologetically, "There’s only one left. You'll have to wait for the next batch."
Hearing this, Bai Qingxia quickly stepped aside and said to Liu Wangchun, "You take this one."
Liu Wangchun waved her hand with a smile. "No need. You were in front of me to begin with."
Bai Qingxia shook her head and explained, "If you hadn't chased that line-cutter away, it wouldn't have been my turn anyway. Besides, I don't want it anymore."
After saying this, she bowed slightly and turned to leave.
Liu Wangchun watched the girl's retreating figure. She could see traces of the introverted classmates she had known in the past, yet she felt this girl was somehow different from them. Perhaps it was because she was so strikingly beautiful that she seemed, by nature, a cut above the rest.
Liu Wangchun smiled to herself as she thought this.
...
Lu Yuanqiu arrived at the East Gate of the Xingfuli residential complex. He glanced at his watch, and after waiting for about ten minutes, a black Lincoln stretch limousine drove past the Xingfu River and pulled up in front of him.
What is this setup... looks like quite a few people have come.
As Lu Yuanqiu opened the door and stepped inside, he immediately heard two voices calling out sweetly: "Lu Yuanqiu~"
"Big Sister! Second Sister!" Lu Yuanqiu responded with a smile, looking at the two young women sitting side-by-side opposite him.
The eldest was twenty-five and a graduate student, while the second was twenty-three and had just finished her undergraduate degree. As their father had said, their looks weren't exactly striking, but they had decent figures and were dressed fashionably. With their refined makeup, they were already impressive young ladies of good standing.
However, Lu Yuanqiu noticed that next to his sisters sat a girl dressed in Lolita fashion. She had a cute, round face, and her slender legs under the ruffled hem of her skirt were wrapped in clean white silk stockings. She was staring at Lu Yuanqiu with a look of intense excitement.
Where is this "excitement" coming from? Lu Yuanqiu didn't recognize her, though she looked somewhat familiar.
He turned to greet the adults in the front seats: "Uncle, Second Uncle."
His uncles responded with smiles. Next to them, Lu Yuanqiu saw a middle-aged man who also looked familiar. He ventured, "Uncle Song?"
"Hey! I didn't think this lad would still recognize me. It's been so many years!" Uncle Song, who sported a handlebar mustache, smiled as he looked over. He then pointed to the girl in the Lolita dress and said with a playful expression, "Yuanqiu, do you still remember Xuanxuan?"
Uncle Song was from the head office and was a direct subordinate of his uncles. They had indeed met when he was a child, but as for the Lolita girl named Xuanxuan... Lu Yuanqiu looked back across the aisle.
The girl in the white stockings looked at him with excitement again.
Setting aside whether I know you or not, why are you so excited to see me? Lu Yuanqiu felt a bit unnerved by her gaze.
"Brother Yuanqiu, it's me, Xuanx
