Chapter Forty-Two: Recovery, Roasted Wolf Meat [First Update]
“Kuolosta is dead?”
“Who on earth is that brat, to be able to kill Kuolosta, who possessed regenerative powers? Such terrifying strength.”
In the wind and snow, every pirate in the Frozen Hell fixed their eyes on that slight figure. The intense battle just now had already drawn countless onlookers. The biting cold and persistent snow of this place meant that even a single fight could set everyone’s blood ablaze.
“That kid’s powers are strange. Why does a Devil Fruit user have so many distinctly different abilities?”
“Be careful… he’s very dangerous…”
Shu Mingyuan looked down at the corpse at his feet. Even killing a pirate who had been imprisoned for twenty years had been so difficult—he had clearly underestimated these so-called Devil Fruit users. If he wasn’t cautious in the future, there was no telling when he might fall into a deadly trap.
After killing Kuolosta, both his Ninjutsu and Martial Arts stats had crossed 800. As expected, combat was the fastest way to gain strength. He could sense that once he mastered the Navy’s Six Styles, his Martial Arts stat might break 1000.
Physically, he was now at a monstrous level, his natural recovery astonishing. Although heavily wounded by Kuolosta, judging by his current rate of healing, he would be fully recovered in just a few days.
Shu Mingyuan cast a cold sweeping glance at the pirates pressed against their cells, watching him. The murderous intent in his eyes was unmistakable. He had already obtained the Navy’s Six Styles from Kuolosta, but in such a massive prison, there must be someone who could use Haki, right?
“But for now, I should focus on recovering completely. Otherwise, if I run into a pirate who can use Haki and attempt to learn from him, I might find myself in another fierce battle.”
Frowning, Shu Mingyuan clutched his abdomen and, gritting his teeth, made his way with effort towards an empty cell. Kuolosta’s corpse quickly turned icy in the wind and snow, the pungent stench of blood attracting a pack of military wolves, who tore his body into dozens of pieces, devouring him entirely amidst the sound of gnashing jaws.
…
A faint stream of chakra flowed through his meridians. Its overall quantity in his body was now immense, spreading throughout him and gently nourishing his wounded flesh and organs. Coupled with his body’s self-healing, the damaged areas visibly regenerated.
“At this rate, I should be fully healed in three days at most. But I do somewhat long for Tsunade’s undying ‘Creation Rebirth’—not only can it instantly repair injuries during battle, but it also boosts stamina and monstrous strength. As long as there’s chakra, you’re nearly immortal.”
Shu Mingyuan sighed. But the Strength of a Hundred Seal and Creation Rebirth were S-class forbidden techniques—he couldn’t exchange for them yet. Still, a simple healing technique was within reach.
Spending 500 Justice Points, he exchanged for a basic healing technique. At his command, his chakra instantly transformed, acquiring restorative properties that permeated his wounds. The healing speed increased by another ten percent, shortening recovery by half a day to a full day.
He closed his eyes and quietly recuperated. Two days passed in a flash, and his bare body had long since developed a thin layer of frost in this frozen world.
His body shuddered slightly as he awoke from meditation, his injuries fully healed. Frost fell from him in a shower, and his physique was gradually adapting to the extreme cold, his constitution improving bit by bit.
Growl…
He hadn’t eaten since being imprisoned in Impel Down—almost three days without food, and after expending so much energy in battle, hunger now gnawed at him fiercely.
What was there to eat here? His gaze swept the cell, landing on a piece of bread frozen stiff in the corner. He shook his head—that thing was hardly edible.
He looked outside the cell and saw the military wolves prowling about. A smile finally crept onto his lips.
“You’ll do… my meal.”
Leisurely, he walked out of his cell. Shu Mingyuan was already notorious in the Frozen Hell. The battle two days ago had made him known to all. The pirates, both awed by his strength and envious of his freedom to enter and leave his cell, watched him keenly.
“Look, that kid’s finally out after two days. Wonder what he’s up to?”
“Hey, kid, let’s make a deal—let me out and all the treasure I’ve hidden outside is yours.”
“Haha, just let me out and you can have your pick of my women and riches. Take it all if you want!”
“Young man, if you’re planning a jailbreak, you’ll need numbers. Magellan isn’t someone you can handle alone.”
Shu Mingyuan frowned at the boisterous pirates, then barked, “Shut up! If you don’t keep quiet, I’ll feed every last one of you to the wolves!”
Instantly, silence fell over the Frozen Hell. With the precedent set—he’d slaughtered every pirate in Kuolosta’s cell, even the regenerative Kuolosta—who would dare challenge him now?
This kid was anything but soft-hearted.
Shu Mingyuan walked toward the military wolves, who quickly surrounded him. Each beast was the size of a water buffalo, massive and powerful, with jaws capable of crushing the hardest ice in a single snap. These were pack animals—compared to the beasts of the Beast Hell, they were true monsters. Any beast from there would be devoured here, bones and all.
The wolves lunged at him together, but as they approached, a cloak of lightning burst from his body. Within a meter around him, wild bolts of electricity crackled, sending the wolves flying with numbed bodies.
Howl!
Sensing that this man was not easy prey, the leading wolf gave a howl, gathering the others to retreat.
But would Shu Mingyuan let them leave so easily? He’d come here for them—if he let them go, what would he eat?
Lightning flashed in his left hand, quickly forming into a spear of pure energy. With lightning speed, he hurled it, piercing one of the wolves.
A painful, echoing howl followed. The wolf hung impaled on the spear; its blood evaporated instantly in the lightning’s heat.
After the Chidori, a massive wolf’s head tumbled to the ground, blood spilling everywhere. The military wolf died completely then.
Hoisting the huge corpse back to his cell, Shu Mingyuan quickly skinned and butchered it, then cut off a leg.
With a snap of his fingers, a blaze erupted in his palm. Soon, the enticing aroma of roasting meat drifted from his cell, spreading throughout the entire Frozen Hell.
ps: Not every chapter can be full of fighting—reading that nonstop would exhaust you, and writing it would exhaust me. The protagonist isn’t some immortal cultivator who can go without food or drink—he needs to eat and live. The novel needs other scenes to balance things out. Of course, there will be more battles ahead—stay tuned for the excitement!
