Aside from the six million split given to Li Zimu, the rest of the money was essentially divided among Lord Wei and his two companions. They were hardly the sort to dispense charity to those in need; like most who suddenly come into great wealth, they indulged themselves thoroughly. That night, the three of them, along with their underlings, headed to a high-end local bar called 1933, where they reveled in food, drink, and merriment.

“Tian, as long as we can lure out the sorcerer behind the tomb-raiding gang, I won’t regret spending any amount of money. Use it as you see fit, spend as much as you like. And from now on, you don’t need to call and apologize for these things,” Wan Tianze said over the phone to Ye Dong. “By the way, if you have time, send Zhenzhen a message or something. She seems to miss you.”

Ye Dong smiled, rubbing his nose. “How is Zhenzhen?”

Wan Tianze laughed heartily. “She pretends nothing is wrong, but whenever we eat or chat, she can't help but mention you. You’re smart enough to understand what your Uncle Wan is getting at.”

Ye Dong gave an awkward laugh. “Uncle Wan, you know my calls are being monitored.”

Wan Tianze burst out laughing. “Ah, look at me, your uncle’s getting forgetful!” He cleared his throat. “Officer Li, how’s your health these days?”

Officer Li, listening in, shook his head with a smile and gestured for Ye Dong to follow his lead.

Ye Dong glanced at the note Officer Li had written and said, “Uncle Wan, Officer Li would like you to send a few people to the 1933 bar tonight to stir up some trouble, to help us with our investigation.”

Wan Tianze chuckled. “That’s easy. I’ll send some people with connections to check the place out.”

After discussing the details, the call ended.

“Xiaobao, Dachun, Moron!” Ye Dong put down the phone and shouted, “Tonight we’re going out to the bar for some fun!”

Upon hearing this glorious news, Xiaobao and Dachun embraced tightly in excitement. “Since we started this undercover mission, we haven’t touched a drop of alcohol, and we’ve given up nightlife completely! Tonight we finally get to relax!”

“Dachun!”

“Xiaobao!”

“Dachun!”

“Xiaobao!”

Moron looked worried, repeatedly interrupting their sentimental exchange. “Stop, stop, stop! You two start spouting nonsense when you’re drunk. If you slip up, it’ll be a disaster!”

Xiaobao’s face darkened at this cold splash. “Moron! What do you mean!? You play the rich kid every day, arms full of beauties and top-shelf cigars. Of course you’re living the good life! Have you ever experienced the hardship of playing someone from the bottom of society, as we do?”

Dachun joined in, scoffing at Moron. “Exactly! You spend the organization’s money freely, and now we just want a drink and a look at some girls with Dong, and you protest? I can’t believe your character is so rotten—you can’t stand seeing us happy!”

“Shameful!”

“Despicable!”

“Moron!”

“Impotent!”

“Mushroom!”

“Rotten cucumber!”

Seeing Xiaobao and Dachun team up to roast Moron, Officer Li laughed. “Tonight’s mission is to help Tian act the part and let Lord Wei’s crew lower their guard around him. Just relax—eat and drink as you like.”

“See! Officer Li even said so!” Xiaobao gave Moron the finger. “This is fatter than your little mushroom!”

Moron was less amused. “Fine, fine, let’s say I was wrong, okay?”

“‘Let’s say’ you were wrong? It’s definitely your fault!” Dachun said coldly. “Your words have already wounded our innocent and sensitive souls. Unless...”

“Unless what?”

“Unless you call us ‘Dad’ from now on, we won’t forgive you!”

“Screw you!” Liang Lingzhi cursed.

Ye Dong simply laughed at their antics, not joining in, because Huiyan would also participate in tonight’s operation. He feared that if he got drunk, he might mistake Huiyan for Yayi, the one who haunted his past, just as he’d lost himself to Xiaoting’s Yayi-like charm that night at the Wind Bar.

Once preparations were made, their luxury car soon arrived at the 1933 bar.

Xiaobao, stepping out, took a deep breath. “Same familiar formula, same familiar taste!”

Moron retorted coldly, “That was your dad’s fart you inhaled so eagerly! I have to hand it to you!”

Seeing another argument brewing, Ye Dong stepped in. “Enough, pay attention to your roles now that we’re out.”

Noticing Ye Dong’s displeasure, the two reluctantly ceased their bickering, but once he turned away, they quietly cursed each other. Xiaobao whispered, “Don’t call me ‘Dad’ if you get drunk later!”

“I’m the rich kid—Moron, oops, playboy Liang Lingzhi! Would I get drunk so easily?”

After Moron handed over his black supreme card, several security staff and servers, assigned specially to high-end clients, quickly cleared a path for them.

Huiyan, adorned with exquisite makeup and a tight red dress that accentuated her alluring figure, drew cheers and whistles as soon as she entered the bar.

Hearing the commotion, Ye Dong teased, “Beautiful lady, don’t forget you’re my bodyguard. Why dress so seductively? If some creep messes with me, I’ll have to play hero and rescue you.”

Huiyan, her beauty radiant, turned and sent Ye Dong a flirtatious glance. “Tonight, I’m just waiting for some lecher to take the bait so I can vent my frustrations. After all, I’ve endured quite a bit of cold shoulder from a certain someone lately.”

Ye Dong grinned, pulling Huiyan into his arms. “Your role tonight is also my girlfriend.”

“Mm!” Surprised by Ye Dong’s bold move, Huiyan let out a soft gasp. “You—!”

Ye Dong smirked. “What? You can’t hit me now, can you?”

Huiyan’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment, lips pouting as she gazed at Ye Dong, unsure how to respond. The fragrance of a beauty was intoxicating, and even with his cultivation, Ye Dong felt his composure slipping. “Trouble! Huiyan’s charm is too much—this could get messy!”

He tried to release her waist, but Huiyan’s delicate hand held his tighter, pressing his hand even closer. “What’s wrong? If we’re going to act, let’s make it convincing. Don’t be shy—remember, you’re He Wentian.”

Her bold teasing made Ye Dong’s heart race, nearly losing his composure. “Huiyan, let go. I’m… I’m a gentleman!”

“Are you?” Huiyan leaned in closer, her lips blowing softly in his ear. “My Tian, is your courage failing you?”

“Oh dear, a beauty is like a venomous scorpion, Ye Dong, you must keep your cool!” Xiaobao and the others, witnessing Ye Dong’s good fortune, secretly swallowed in envy. “Ye Dong truly is favored by heaven. If I died from her poison, I’d accept it.”

The men who’d been whistling at Huiyan now saw Ye Dong claim her in his arms and promptly applauded. “Well done!”

“This young master has skill!”

“He must be loaded!”

“Lucky in every way!”

Seeing the towering Liang Lingzhi and Xiaobao, plus the short but fierce Dachun behind Ye Dong, the bar regulars knew the rules: anyone flanked by bodyguards was not to be trifled with, so their whistles turned to flattery.

“Don’t lose focus,” Huiyan’s earpiece crackled with Xiao Wang’s voice. “Huiyan, Lord Wei and his crew are in the semi-open box on the second floor. Look right, you’ll see them.”

Huiyan glanced in that direction and indeed spotted Lord Wei and his companions under dim lights, drinking and watching the show, seemingly enjoying themselves.

“All three are here, plus a few underlings,” Huiyan whispered to Ye Dong. “Stick to the script tonight, or I won’t let you off easily!”

She pinched Ye Dong’s waist hard. “Remember, my Tian!”

Ye Dong forced a smile, enduring the pain. “Got it, my girlfriend! Please let go!” The tighter she squeezed, the harder he held her waist, prompting Xiaobao and the others to whisper, “The protagonist sure has it good—dog abuse anytime, anywhere.”

Meanwhile, Lixing, arms around two women, was having a blast. Hearing the commotion downstairs when Huiyan entered, he peeked out and spotted Ye Dong’s group. He nudged Lord Wei, “Lord Wei, He Wentian, that madman, is here too!”

Lord Wei responded with an intrigued “Oh?” and stepped forward. Ye Dong, intentionally or not, looked around and locked eyes with Lord Wei.

Lord Wei smiled, raised his thumb in greeting.

Ye Dong smiled back, returning the gesture.

The author senses that in the next chapter, Ye Dong will put on quite the act.
