Chapter 112: Fate Brings Us Together at Last
Guangqi was suddenly plagued by an unexpected allergic reaction, marking a significant breakthrough in Ye Dong’s rescue plan for Huiyan!
Although Huiyan was bound inside the tomb, her ears were not deaf; she could clearly hear the shouting between the two outside.
“Wuwu!”
Hearing that Ye Dong seemed to have gained some advantage, Huiyan finally broke down in tears. Even if the worst awaited them both, she could at least see the man she adored one last time before death—a true hero who silently bore all burdens in her heart.
Every sob from Huiyan injected Ye Dong with a surge of energy, driving his nearly broken body to crawl faster!
Grinning with bloodied lips and struggling to keep his heavy eyelids from collapsing, he teased, “Huiyan, after all this time apart, don’t you miss me?”
Seeing Ye Dong beaten to this state for her sake, Huiyan was too heartbroken to reply; her heart nearly shattered.
“I’m fine. That bastard Guangqi is... even worse off than me,” Ye Dong forced a smile, inching closer to Huiyan.
“Wuwu, you idiot, wuwu!” Huiyan cried out in anguish, finally making her voice heard.
“Let me be an idiot one more time, even if I’ve caused you so much trouble.”
As Ye Dong spoke, his eyes reddened.
“But this time, no matter what, you have to personally report to Officer Li how I bullied you. You must!”
His meaning was clear: no matter what, he would risk everything to get her back to Officer Li!
Huiyan’s heart ached deeply, but she kept shaking her head again and again.
At this moment, Officer Li’s command to Yu Menglan to convey the message to Ye Dong also entered Guangqi’s mind!
“It’s unbearable! How dare you tease me like this! I’ll kill you!”
Guangqi yelled in pain, scratching his itch furiously. Angrily, he thought, “‘Know yourself and know your enemy’? Didn’t expect Ye Dong to use these tricks! Damn that Officer Li! Once this is over, I’m going to take him down too!”
“Hmph, you stubborn scoundrel!” Ye Dong snorted coldly in his heart. Ignoring Guangqi’s shouts, he pressed on toward Huiyan.
“Wuwu!”
Huiyan kept signaling Ye Dong with her eyes to pick up the small knife inside the wooden basin.
“I see it,” Ye Dong said, reaching into the basin and pulling out the small knife Guangqi had given him for wrist-cutting. Struggling, he crawled to Huiyan’s side and cut through the ropes binding her hands and feet.
“Ye Dong! Let’s go! Ouch!”
Huiyan tried to pull Ye Dong up but found her own arm unresponsive—likely stabbed by Guangqi, injuring tendons and bones.
“Looks like it’s hopeless,” Ye Dong smiled bitterly. “Huiyan, you run first—listen to me.”
Huiyan, passionate by nature, could not bear to abandon her savior at such a moment.
“No! If we run, we run together!”
Gritting her teeth, Huiyan stubbornly tried to pull Ye Dong up.
“This is bad. Huiyan’s head is clouded by emotion. If I don’t get tough with her, she’ll never leave!”
Ye Dong’s heart ached deeply. Someone always treated gently—how could he bring himself to be truly harsh? Yet in this desperate moment, there was no room for sentimentality, especially since Huiyan’s life was at stake, which to Ye Dong was of utmost importance.
“I couldn’t save Yayi’s life—that’s a regret I’ll carry forever,” Ye Dong choked back tears, cursing fiercely, “Huiyan, are you asking me to bear another pain that not even drinking the Meng Po soup in hell would erase!?”
Huiyan paused, stunned. “Could it be that I can really sit side by side with Yayi in his heart?”
Her feelings were a mixture of joy and sorrow. If this were ordinary times, she might have been overjoyed, but under these circumstances, the happiness was tinged with tragedy.
“No! I won’t leave you!” Huiyan clung tightly to Ye Dong. “If I’m really going to die now, I’m already satisfied!”
“Die? Everyone can die—except you!”
Ye Dong summoned all his strength to shove Huiyan away, shouting, “If you drag me down, we both die! When you get away, tell Master and Officer Li to avenge me! Tell them I didn’t disgrace them! Now go!”
“But—”
Huiyan shook her head vigorously, tears streaming down her face. “How can I bear to leave you behind?”
“You have to bear it, whether you want to or not!”
Ye Dong yelled, “This isn’t a TV drama. If you keep hesitating, you’ll really die, and all my efforts will be wasted! Run!”
“I—”
Huiyan was sobbing uncontrollably.
“Run!”
Ye Dong pushed her hard, shouting, “Are you waiting for me to die? Don’t forget—I’m Ye Dong, the one who never surrenders! Today, no matter what, I will settle this with Guangqi!”
Hearing this, Huiyan finally understood this was no time for emotion. Or rather, Ye Dong’s reason in helping her had overcome her feelings.
“Alright... I’ll listen to you!”
With resolve, she dashed out without looking back.
But to Ye Dong’s shock, halfway through her escape, Huiyan suddenly froze in place!
“A paralysis spell!?”
Ye Dong gasped and looked toward Guangqi, who had somehow stopped the itching from the allergic reaction and had immobilized Huiyan with a paralysis spell!
“How did he stop the itching so quickly!?”
Ye Dong cursed inwardly, “Looks like he’s discovered the secret of the superhuman’s ‘super recovery ability’!”
“Trying to run!?”
Guangqi roared in fury, charging demon-like straight at Huiyan.
“Damn it, he wants to use her as a bargaining chip again, doesn’t he!?”
Whatever was on Guangqi’s mind, Ye Dong could guess without looking: “My broken body might die any second now. I don’t care if my soul can be used—right now, Huiyan is his talisman!”
“Take this!”
Ye Dong hurled the small knife at Guangqi.
“Hmph! Amateur tricks!”
Guangqi’s ears twitched as he turned and caught the knife effortlessly.
“Catching a flying knife barehanded!? Isn’t he afraid of flying knives!?”
Seeing Guangqi’s skill, Ye Dong cursed silently, “Damn, Guangqi is really something else!”
Indeed, Guangqi was a top undercover agent, skilled in both mind and body—once a captain in the Eastern Depot or the Embroidered Uniform Guard. Catching a flying knife thrown by a half-dead Ye Dong was child’s play.
If you have time, watch the Embroidered Uniform Guard series—the fight scenes are spectacular.
“I have a superhuman body. In skill and reflexes, I’m at least five times stronger than you on Guangxing Avenue!”
Guangqi laughed loudly and sent the knife flying toward Ye Dong’s body.
“Take that!”
The knife came as expected, about to strike Ye Dong.
But unexpectedly, no scream of pain came from Ye Dong.
Guangqi was startled and quickly looked back. The knife was embedded firmly in the dirt between Ye Dong’s legs!
“Something’s wrong!”
Guangqi immediately sensed something was amiss and activated his Heavenly Eye. He saw a faintly glowing green female ghost pulling Ye Dong’s hair, just barely shifting him aside to avoid the knife!
“That was close!”
Covered in cold sweat, Ye Dong looked at the flying knife less than an inch from his groin. “If my little brother had been stabbed, the underworld would laugh at me forever!”
He turned and, as expected, saw Yu Menglan—the one who had been hiding in the shadows—still gripping his hair.
