Chapter 78: The Cross Arrives
After she spoke, the butler paused, his expression indescribably strange.
"Finished."
After a long moment, the butler finally uttered three words.
But only he knew that things were far from simple.
At first, considering that Mo Ci had lost her memory, he specially invited teachers from kindergarten all the way up to high school, intending to start her lessons from the very beginning.
Yet when the teachers arrived that morning, a problem arose.
It is often said that there are people in this world who are geniuses. What others must toil to understand, they can grasp with ease, drawing inferences from one thing to another, sometimes even to ten others!
But Mo Ci was even more astonishing. With merely a glance through the textbooks, she absorbed all the knowledge, seamlessly integrating every fragment.
This was not just genius—it bordered on the supernatural!
At first, he was suspicious and consulted professionals in the field.
Eventually, the explanation he received was that, in some cases, amnesia leaves a person with basic reservoirs of knowledge, and Mo Ci’s phenomenon was likely the textbooks reawakening the stores of information within her mind.
This explanation seemed reasonable, so the butler didn’t dwell further, simply thinking that it would be helpful for the young lady to have extra guidance at school.
Chao Xu was taken aback, glancing at the smiling Mo Ci beside her, only then realizing that the butler’s earlier words were not mere nonsense.
She was about to press the butler for details when, without warning, someone kicked open the door to the Chao family’s hall.
Bang—
At the sudden, violent sound, Chao Xu looked over to see a youth with silver hair and a rebellious air, wearing a silver cross earring and a crooked shirt, leaning nonchalantly in the doorway, lazily greeting their table.
"Grandpa, are you here?"
Chao Xu looked around.
At that moment, only she, Aunt Wang, and the butler Mo Ci were in the room.
She, Mo Ci, and Aunt Wang obviously did not fit the description of "grandpa."
That meant this youth... was the butler’s grandson mentioned earlier!?
Chao Xu’s gaze flickered between the butler and the youth, unable to express the complexity of her thoughts.
The two could not have been more different.
The butler was strict and meticulous; even his uniform was pressed to perfection and his hair was always immaculately groomed.
Because of her preconceived notions, she had imagined the butler’s grandson would be someone with a black mushroom haircut, black-rimmed glasses, and an equally rigid demeanor.
Yet, the grandson who appeared was just shy of having the word “flamboyant” written across his forehead—his every step seemed to scatter stars in his wake.
The moment the youth entered, the butler’s pupils widened in shock; furious, he stamped his foot and nearly rushed forward to strike him. "You little rascal, what are you doing! If you scare the young master, you’ll regret it!"
Nearly dragged away by his ear, the youth seemed entirely unfazed, responding dismissively while lazily casting a glance in Chao Xu’s direction, a flash of disdain darting through his upturned, phoenix-like eyes.
Catching the shift in his gaze, Chao Xu frowned; it was clear this person was not here with good intentions.
Withdrawing his gaze, the youth spoke brazenly, “Tch, it’s just another pampered young master living off the family you’ve worked so hard to maintain, grandpa. Is it really worth all this fuss?”
A fool had died before, now another young master had arrived—what a troublesome, ridiculous family.
His attitude was careless, bordering on contemptuous, infuriating the ever-respectful butler to the point where he nearly coughed up blood.
"You—you—you, you ungrateful brat! See if I don’t beat you senseless!"
