Chapter Sixty-Seven: The Alleyway Assault
People like this, to put it bluntly, are shameless debtors. No matter what you do, they brazenly refuse to return what they owe.
Frankly, in situations like this, when Shen Lu is unwilling to give something back, or has already sold it and uses old ties as an excuse, any reasonable person would find it almost impossible to seek justice. The only option is to swallow their anger and frustration.
But as luck would have it, Shen Lu encountered Chao Xu.
She never played by the rules. She had plenty of ways to make people cough up what they owed, with interest.
Casually slipping the watch into her pocket, Chao Xu slowly walked toward Shen Lu.
Already feeling guilty, Shen Lu instinctively took two steps back as Chao Xu approached, stiffening her neck and demanding, “What—what do you want?”
Chao Xu remained unruffled. She lifted her elegant hand and gently tapped Shen Lu’s shoulder twice, then leaned in to whisper softly in her ear, “You don’t know who your sister lent it to? That’s fine. I’ll find out, bit by bit.”
With those words, Chao Xu straightened and glanced at Shen Lu, then stepped aside and made a courteous gesture, indicating she was free to leave.
The spot on Shen Lu’s shoulder where she’d been touched felt chillingly cold, her heart pounding wildly. She couldn’t help but shiver.
She should have been happy to finally escape from this little demon’s grasp, but the feeling lingered that something even more terrifying was waiting for her just around the corner.
