Chapter Forty-Three: Let Father Teach You How to Be a Person (Part Three)
After she summoned those people that day, she heard nothing further. She had been certain the matter would be settled, yet the next morning, the very group of thugs she’d hired was discovered in the grove beside the school.
But… every one of them was sprawled across the ground in bizarre, contorted postures! More terrifying still, each bore bruises and broken bones to varying degrees.
And when the people who found them finally woke them, their first reaction was to slap their own faces, left and right, until their cheeks swelled, all with blank, wooden expressions, as if bewitched. Only after this grotesque act did they stop, staring ahead as if possessed!
When they finally regained their wits and were asked what had happened, they remembered nothing at all, as if the entire day had been erased from their minds.
Individually, these incidents meant little, but taken together, it was the very image of a vengeful ghost’s retribution!
Clutching her mouth, Shen Lu trembled uncontrollably, using all her strength to keep herself from screaming.
Don’t be afraid, she told herself. She had escaped that day. Seven days had passed since then. Chao Si should have already gone to her next life. No one would come for revenge now…
As she desperately tried to suppress her anxiety, her bunkmate suddenly exclaimed in delight, “Hey, everyone, come look! The homeroom teacher just told me—the heir of the Chao family is coming to our school this week! And… he’ll be in our class!”
The heir of the Chao family…
At the mention of the Chao family, Shen Lu jolted, her face turning pale as she nervously asked, “I saw on the news that the eldest daughter of the Chao family died. Wasn’t she their only heir? If she’s dead, who else is there to inherit the Chao family?”
“You really don’t know much, do you?” her roommate said smugly. “The Chao family is a massive enterprise. Of course there’s an heir! This one is the son of the Chao family’s main daughter. Since the line was about to end, he got lucky and inherited the position.”
Another roommate began to fantasize, “The Chao family is one of the top ten families in the capital! If the heir comes to our class and by some miracle falls for me… wouldn’t I instantly become a member of the elite?”
The others rolled their eyes unceremoniously. “Keep dreaming. An heir from a noble family will only marry someone from an equally powerful background. Besides, who knows if the Chao family’s young master is handsome or hideous? He might be a spoiled, arrogant fatso—would you still like him then?”
“I’d still like him, even if he’s ugly. Who cares, as long as he’s rich? Hahaha!”
While her roommates gossiped, Shen Lu, who had been on edge the entire time, finally let out a breath of relief.
Thank goodness… thank goodness it wasn’t Chao Si.
No one had ever found out what she’d done to bully Chao Si. The one coming was merely a relative of Chao Si. That fool had never complained, so the Chao family surely knew nothing of her actions.
Moreover, in everyone else’s eyes, Shen Lu was Chao Si’s only friend! With this connection, she might even use the opportunity to get close to the Chao family’s young master and profit from it…
Her brief unease forgotten, Shen Lu returned to her daydreams, putting Chao Si completely out of her mind.
Little did she know, the Chao family heir she so longed to meet was in fact Chao Xu, carrying all of Chao Si’s memories—and he was perfectly aware of every sordid thing she had ever done.
