Chapter Ninety-Nine: Desperate Battle, the Zombies Strike Back
You are despicable beyond belief!
Hearing the man rant and rave before him, even Hu Sanhan, disciplined by Chen Yi into keeping a calm head, could not help but be shaken.
This fellow now wore a face full of schemes; he was not someone to underestimate.
The people on the other ships began to back away one after another.
A zombie that could speak, and even weave such a layered conspiracy, was practically a perfect copy of a human being.
The only difference was that he had already lost what made him human.
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
In the next instant, the man appeared behind a trembling crewman, let out a sneer, and rested a hand on his shoulder.
Sensing the other’s fear, a look of pleasure spread across the man’s face.
“Well now, I really did want to keep playing along with you and see it through to the end, but unfortunately...”
His left hand pierced the crewman’s chest, and the zombie man chuckled softly, feeling an inexplicable rush of delight rise from deep within him.
So it was true: killing could bring joy.
At that moment, Chu Yunxi opened fire on him.
Yet the bullets failed to pierce the man’s chest.
The sight turned Chu Yunxi’s face livid in an instant.
How could such a thing happen?
The man slowly turned his head and looked at Chu Yunxi once more.
“Chen Yi’s greatest mistake was trusting that a woman like you could control the entire battlefield. I don’t feel like wasting time explaining things to you today, but remember this: compared with the zombie army, the lives and deaths of people like you are truly insignificant!”
Watching the man withdraw his bloodied hand, Chu Yunxi almost retched in disgust.
And yet, in this situation, she could not fall apart.
He was truly composed.
The corner of the man’s mouth lifted, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes.
He seemed to have underestimated Chen Yi’s woman.
In the apocalypse, there was no shortage of people who wanted to fight zombies, but those with this kind of courage and patience were few and far between.
Thus, the zombie man did not intend to kill Chu Yunxi. Instead, he leaped into the water.
This move puzzled everyone.
“What is he doing? Could it be that he...”
In the water, the zombie man gave a cold laugh, then summoned countless intelligent zombies to clamber up onto the warship.
To be continued
“To deal with all of you, they are enough! Sorry, I’m not the saintly type. I won’t show mercy, so enjoy the feast the zombies have prepared for you!”
“Stop right there!”
Seeing the man about to leave, Chu Yunxi erupted in anger. But before she could finish, those intelligent zombies had already crossed the railings and rushed straight toward them.
Chu Yunxi made a swift decision and immediately returned fire.
Chen Yaxi also began using her aerial shuttle skill to cut down the zombies.
The zombie man in the water carefully observed Chen Yaxi’s ability, and his gaze turned icy.
He had not made a move against the little girl earlier precisely because he knew she had some skill. Now, seeing her display her techniques with his own eyes, he found it rather amusing.
“Boss!”
At that moment, another zombie with the ability to speak opened his mouth.
“Should we just forcibly wipe out these people? My men have reported that Chen Yi’s new squad is rushing over here at full speed.”
“No rush!”
The zombie man sneered again, his eyes arrogant.
“Wouldn’t it be boring to do something like this without making the instigator watch it happen? As for me, I enjoy seeing people like Chen Yi break in despair.”
The moment these words were spoken, the area fell silent.
Their boss was about to play a little game.
By then, Chen Yi had also returned to the underside of the warship, covered in blood as he carried Lu Kai with him.
He himself was not injured; the blood on him belonged to his companions.
Strictly speaking, they could no longer be called companions, because all of them had lost consciousness and become nothing short of zombies.
“Well, well, the protagonist has finally arrived!”
The zombie man grew even more excited, his fists clenching with cracking sounds.
He regarded Chen Yi as his only opponent, so everything about Chen Yi filled him with equal parts hatred and curiosity.
Chen Yi also noticed how different the zombie before him was.
Compared with the others, this one possessed movement and intelligence beyond compare, clearly having reached a level indistinguishable from a human being.
And yet, at his core, he was nothing more than a zombie.
Slowly, the zombie man floated forward through the water, his eyes beginning to glow a blood-red hue.
“Chen Yi, after killing so many of our zombies, do you think you still have any chance of escaping alive?”
Chen Yi’s twin blades shot toward him at once, but the zombie man did not dodge. When the blades reached him, he merely swung his left hand and knocked them away.
This only convinced Chen Yi further that this zombie possessed not just intelligence, but a body tougher than anyone else’s.
To be continued
Advancing once more, the zombie man glanced smugly at Chen Yi and straightened his back with an air of arrogance.
“Do you know how many things in this world can leave people helpless? Especially now—watching your companions be used by me, killed by me—don’t you feel unwilling to accept it?”
Chen Yi looked over expressionlessly, and his fists emitted another sound.
“Madman.”
“Ha!”
The man’s self-satisfied expression returned.
“Yes, I am a madman. Then what are you, Chen Yi? To tell the truth, at the start I did not want to do too many cruel things, because I thought that once you were dead, I would be able to take control of the entire situation.”
After a pause, the left-hand claws of the zombie man grew longer and longer. Chen Yi also understood what his unfinished words implied, and sneered again.
“If you can’t take control, then you kill people?”
The smile vanished from the zombie man’s face.
Chen Yi had not lost his composure?
That, in fact, already foretold what Chen Yi would do next.
Clenching his fist, the zombie man roared and charged forward. In the next second, Chen Yi’s silver wings unfurled, and the eight scythe blades on his body appeared at once.
The zombie man had intended to stop before Chen Yi, but he did not have time. He could only watch helplessly as he slammed into Chen Yi’s black scythe blades.
“Die!”
With Chen Yi’s swift strike, the zombie man’s head fell into the water.
Seeing this, the others applauded and cheered.
“Boss, you’re incredible. We’re proud of you!”
“It’s not over yet.”
Chen Yi spoke calmly. Then everyone noticed that the zombie man whose head had been severed had actually grown a new one.
His gaze cold, the zombie man sneered as he revealed claws growing ever longer.
“All of you deserve to die!”
Chen Yi ignored him and instead called out to Chen Yaxi, who was still circling overhead above the warship.
“Xiaoxi, their heads are not their weak point. To destroy them completely, you have to obliterate their bodies!”
