As he spoke, the professor suddenly tore open his own clothes.

Everyone was stunned by the sight of the multicolored patterns that emerged on the man's body. Every inch of his skin bore the marks of various zombie genes.

A wave of nausea swept through the group, and several women who could not bear the horror of the scene instantly vomited.

To transform a human body using those foul zombie genes—was that not the making of a monster? How could someone do this to themselves?

Both Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan were struck speechless by shock. They had never encountered someone who treated his own body as a specimen in this way—it was simply mind-boggling.

"Everyone, be careful," Chen Yi said, immediately stepping in front of the group to shield them, his brow furrowed. "This guy isn’t someone we can deal with quickly. Stay on alert and be ready to fight him at any moment."

"You can’t kill me," the professor sneered, his gaze cold and sharp. "To be honest, I almost pity you. From my perspective, you’re only making a dying struggle."

Even as he spoke, his strength surged unexpectedly. Before anyone could react, he lunged at Chen Yi.

Chen Yi’s twin blades slashed at him, but the professor’s chest was like an unyielding boulder—no matter how he struck, he couldn’t break through.

Looking closer, he saw zombie genes writhing beneath the skin, and half a face seemed to bite down on the blade in Chen Yi’s hand.

Chen Yi quickly slashed downward, leaving a scar on the professor’s body before leaping back to gain distance.

This half-man, half-monster professor was proving to be a formidable opponent. Chen Yi had faced many adversaries, but none as challenging as this.

"What’s the matter? Can’t beat me? Maybe if you beg for mercy, I’ll let you have a point," the professor taunted, his eyes now cunning, tinged with a strange excitement.

"Don’t even think about it." Chen Yi kicked him to the ground, but the professor lay there with an air of ease, as if he was waiting for Chen Yi to make his move.

Realizing brute force was useless, Chen Yi shifted his focus. He aimed for the professor’s heart.

Perhaps truly sensing danger for the first time, the man’s expression grew wary, and he dodged swiftly.

Seeing the professor finally taking things seriously, Chen Yi understood that, whether human or zombie, the heart remained the most vital spot.

He issued a command to the others: "Aim for his chest. Remember—shoot to kill. Give him no chance to recover."

"Understood." The group responded with righteous anger, their faces set with murderous resolve. The professor's face turned pale as he realized the gravity of his predicament.

Damn, he had overplayed his hand this time.

He quickly grabbed a handful of dirt and flung it at them, then turned and fled.

Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan wanted to give chase, but Chen Yi stopped them.

With a calm smile, Chen Yi said, "The area isn’t that large—he can’t get far. What we need now is caution. That guy is no ordinary opponent. He’ll be back, and these mutants might even be stronger than our own powers. Don’t underestimate him."

"This guy is insane," Chu Yunxi muttered, glancing at Chen Yi and shaking her head. "Did you see what was in his chest? It’s clearly—"

"I know," Chen Yi nodded at her. "But even so, we can’t do much. To be accurate, he’s not truly human anymore. His body is a real problem for us."

"So you’re just going to let him get away? That’s not like you, boss," Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan protested.

Chen Yi smiled at their reaction. "Who said I’m letting him go? But at a time like this, every move affects the whole situation. I think we need to consider our next steps carefully. And have you forgotten what’s most important right now?"

His words left them momentarily at a loss.

Indeed, what was the most important thing at this moment?

Chu Yunxi was the first to realize, slapping her forehead. "We need to worry about the next wave of zombies. The safehouse isn’t fully built yet—another storm could come at any time."

"Exactly. So why are you so eager to kill him? His death brings us no benefit. Another researcher on zombies only increases our chances of survival. Frankly, letting him cause some chaos might not be such a bad thing."

"Alright then, let’s get back to building the houses. But we can’t split up anymore. Let’s do a headcount," Chen Yi said, squinting thoughtfully at the scattered group of friends around him.

"Now, we’re down to just a few dozen people, and not many of us have powers. We need to value the time we have together—no one knows what the next second will bring."

Just then, a low growl reached their ears.

Chen Yi immediately led Hu Sanhan and the others to prepare a defense, surrounding the weakest members of the group and shielding them. The strongest among them, together with Chen Yi, edged toward the source of the sound.

As they drew near, everyone froze at what they saw.

The source was a mutated zombie monkey.

"My god, there are even zombie monkeys now!"

"Zombie? You’re the zombie! Your whole family are zombies!"

"The monkey talked!"

Lu Kai was so shocked by the sound that he staggered back.

Chen Yi, however, remained calm. "It’s not that surprising. We’ve been through several waves of the undead. Since the Day of Calamity, even monkeys on the verge of death could be revived by that strange power—albeit in this twisted form."

"Who are you?" the zombie monkey demanded, its red eyes fixed on Chen Yi as it scratched the ground with its claws. "If you don’t answer, I’ll kill you all."

"You really are a tiresome monkey," Hu Sanhan grumbled, reaching out to grab it, but Chen Yi stopped him.

"Are you crazy? This monkey isn’t the ordinary kind you can just catch. One swipe of its poisoned claw and you’re dead for sure."

"Are you serious?" Hu Sanhan gasped, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. "My god, I never imagined—if I had known—"

"Known what? You already reached out to grab it! If I hadn’t stopped you, you’d be dead by now."

Chen Yi turned his attention back to the zombie monkey and spoke firmly. "I don’t care how you got here. I’m in charge of this place. Now that you’re here, you must follow the rules—no hurting anyone."
