Chapter Sixty-Six: The S-Class Soft Zombie Evolves Again, Falling into Misery
As soon as the words fell, a dense swarm of gelatinous zombies began pressing their bodies against the window from outside.
“Damn it!”
Hu Sanhan swung his golden broadsword swiftly, his brows tightly knit.
“Boss, these things are disgusting, like snot slugs!”
“Cut the chatter.” Chen Yi instantly moved to shield the others, adjusting the strength in his arms to the optimal state.
“They’re coming!”
Bang!
With a crash, the window shattered, and countless slug-like zombies roared as they surged toward Chen Yi and his team.
“Three hold, three defend! Hu Sanhan, the professors on the right can’t fight—go protect them! Lu Kai, Yunxi’s group has some defensive ability, don’t worry there. The wounded on the left can’t resist; you’re in charge of them.”
Hu Sanhan and Lu Kai sprang into action.
At that moment, Chen Yaxi, who was leaning in Chu Yunxi’s arms, slowly opened her eyes.
Seeing the room full of zombies attacking the team, she struggled to move.
However, she’d overused her shuttle’s power in the last round, and her psychic control had also been taxed repeatedly; now, her strength, just like last time, was drained, and she fell into a brief slumber.
“I can’t help my brother—what should I do?” Tears welled up in Chen Yaxi’s anxious eyes.
Chu Yunxi gently stroked her head and gave a soft, reassuring smile.
“Don’t be afraid. Your brother will be fine. Just leave everything to him now.”
At that moment, the soft zombies suddenly surged in a massive wave toward Chen Yi.
So, they wanted to take out the commander?
Chen Yi was a bit impressed that these zombies had that much intelligence. Still, their efforts were doomed.
Blade flashed; zombie heads tumbled to the floor. Without pause, his dual blades carved hundreds of silver arcs through the air, slicing the gelatinous zombies into scraps.
Just as Chen Yi expected, though the soft zombies were hard to kill outright, if he cut them into such small pieces, they had no hope of reviving.
“Brothers, follow the boss!” Lu Kai roared, grabbing machine guns in both hands and unleashing a barrage of fire on the zombies lunging at him.
In an instant, the zombies’ heads were half-blown off, but their bodies still lunged forward, one claw stabbing into a wounded man who hadn’t escaped in time.
A scream tore through the air.
As the zombie virus spread, green streaks began to appear on the man’s forehead.
Bang! Bang!
Chu Yunxi dispatched the soon-to-be-zombie cleanly, preventing the birth of a new mutant.
“Well done!” Chen Yi nodded to Chu Yunxi, then sped up to clear the mutated zombies inside the room.
Though the situation wasn’t as dire as it could be, and the zombies hadn’t gained the upper hand, Chen Yaxi felt an even greater fear growing inside her.
Strange. Her brother clearly had the advantage, so why couldn’t she feel happy?
Just as Chen Yaxi puzzled over this, the roof suddenly collapsed!
“Get out of the way!” Chen Yi’s anguished roar echoed.
Hu Sanhan and Lu Kai cursed, grabbing the nearest group of people and diving aside.
Chu Yunxi scooped up Chen Yaxi and dashed toward Chen Yi.
Boom!
With a deafening crash, the roof caved in, crushing those who hadn’t escaped in time.
The air was instantly thick with the scent of blood.
Chen Yi’s squad had numbered in the hundreds, but after this catastrophe, only a few dozen survivors remained.
Glancing up, Chen Yi held his breath.
The cause of the collapse was a creature somewhat like the mutated ones they’d seen before.
It looked like a mantis, but Chen Yi knew it was something else entirely.
The beast opened its gaping maw as those lying in the blood began to scream.
“Help us!”
Anyone would be moved to compassion.
In peaceful times, nothing would have stopped them from trying to save these people.
But now, Chen Yi and his team knew that the severely wounded had no hope of surviving much longer.
Rat-a-tat-tat!
Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan fired their machine guns in a storm of bullets, tears streaming as they shouted to the heavens.
“Brothers, we’ll send you off!”
Chu Yunxi’s eyes filled with tears as well.
She knew exactly why Hu Sanhan and Lu Kai did what they did.
Better for these people to die quickly than to be eaten alive with their minds intact.
Soon, all cries faded.
The monstrous mutant devoured the bodies without mercy.
Just as it raised its head, Chen Yi let out a furious roar, leaping onto its back, plunging his blades precisely into its skull.
In an instant, a spray of green, unknown fluid drenched Chen Yi.
“No, brother!”
Chen Yaxi, in panic, tried to get closer.
Covered in the strange fluid, Chen Yi felt a scorching heat surge through his body.
As the heat burst from his core, the second green stripe on the seven-colored pattern on Chen Yi’s left hand filled up.
Immediately, sickle-like weapons extended from his hands and feet, but this transformation caused no pain.
The mutant began to thrash wildly, desperate to attack Chen Yi.
“Courting death!” Chen Yi roared, raising his blade-tipped left leg high and striking down with force.
The blade pierced the mutant’s organs, ending its life.
Climbing down steadily, Chen Yi strode toward the remaining zombies who still resisted.
The S-class gelatinous mutants began to retreat en masse.
Clearly, they sensed the vast difference in power between themselves and Chen Yi.
“Trying to escape? No chance!”
Chen Yi focused, drew the blades from his feet and joined them, then hurled the curved blade with force.
It sliced through zombie necks with clean efficiency.
Even stranger, this time the zombies could not revive.
Chen Yi considered this. Perhaps it was related to the seven-colored energy stripes from the ant gene in his body.
The first white light had granted him poison; this second green energy seemed to give him the power to kill anything.
But why did it also prevent the zombies’ resurrection? Could it be that the green light from the mutant was the nemesis of these creatures?
With that in mind, Chen Yi quickly sliced open his palm, letting his blood drip onto the floor.
Immediately, the gelatinous zombies could no longer creep up the walls to escape.
“Brother is amazing!”
Chen Yaxi hadn’t expected Chen Yi to find a solution; her little head lifted proudly.
“I knew my brother would be fine. This time, I guessed right!”
“Ahem!” Chu Yunxi couldn’t help but laugh, covering her mouth.
“Don’t forget—you were the one who was scared out of your wits just now!”
