Chapter 64: A Desperate Counterattack, Gaining New Power!

At this moment, deep within Freshman Island, Chu Yunxi’s heart was still troubled, worried about the safety of Chen Yi and the others. Especially after witnessing the upheaval outside, she had almost rushed out several times. Yet, she absolutely could not—Chen Yi was strong, and as his woman, she must not be the one to drag him down.

Suddenly, another discordant voice rang out inside the cabin.

“Chen Yi and the others have been gone for so long—do you think they’ve decided to abandon us?” Li Ming, always eager for chaos, began stirring trouble once more.

His words immediately sparked panic among the weak, elderly, and infirm. Especially those who had survived previous crises—now they grew restless.

“What should we do? Are we going to endure this again—?”

A gunshot rang out.

Chu Yunxi shot Li Ming dead, silencing his attempt at sowing discord. Before anyone could react, she aimed her pistol at the group, her expression cold and unyielding.

“Everyone here should support one another, not act like that fool—selfishly inciting everyone to leave. His death, I believe, will not be the only one, but I sincerely hope it’s the last!”

With that, Chu Yunxi turned, issuing orders to her squad.

“The situation outside is too severe to open the door and throw him out. Take him to the freezer—don’t let him be an eyesore here!”

“Yes!” they responded.

Witnessing Chu Yunxi’s swift execution and suppression, those who had contemplated rebellion began to reevaluate. Without Chu Yunxi and Chen Yi, could they truly survive?

Meanwhile, Chen Yi and his companions were locked in a fierce battle against the giant writhing creatures. During the fight, Chen Yi had tried using toxic rays, but they failed to corrode the mutant beasts—only slowing them down, giving his allies a better chance to survive.

“Boss!” Lu Kai gasped for breath, firing relentlessly at the creature’s vulnerable spots.

“These things seem to regenerate endlessly—at this rate, we might all perish here!”

After three and a half hours of brutal combat, everyone was nearing exhaustion.

Chen Yi realized this could not go on. He forced himself to calm down. If the monster was immune to toxic rays, it must have surpassed the human understanding of survival; to kill it, he would need a new perspective.

“Brother, its weakness is salt!” Chen Ya Xi suddenly spoke.

“I can sense it—when we kill it, the reason it can regenerate so swiftly is because its body is fundamentally like water!”

“That makes things easier!” Chen Yi’s eyes lit up.

“The sea is full of salt—if we can get seawater, we can deal with that monster!”

“I’ll go collect seawater,” Chen Ya Xi said, soaring into the air. Just as she was about to act, a giant shark burst from the waves!

“Ya Xi, be careful!” Chen Yi hurled his double blades, severing the shark’s head.

But it wasn’t over. The giant shark’s head began to regrow at an alarming rate—and worse, two new heads formed where the damage had been.

The double blades spun back to Chen Yi’s hands. Chen Ya Xi returned, crestfallen.

“Brother, I’m sorry, I—”

“It’s alright!” Chen Yi patted her head with a smile.

“So we don’t have salt—but we have other ways. Watch closely!”

As the mutant shark and giant writhing beasts pressed in, Chen Yi grabbed a handful of earth from the ground and hurled it at the mutant creature.

Everyone thought this would only enrage the monster, but to their surprise, it began retreating rapidly, its slippery surface wrinkling.

Those who hadn’t reacted before now grew excited.

“Boss, you always think so fast! I never realized—the soil by the shore is soaked in seawater!”

“Of course!” Lu Kai bragged, lifting his head. “If it were that easy for you all to think of, would the boss still be the boss? Honestly, you’re all just blockheads!”

“Enough!” Chen Yi frowned.

“The crisis isn’t over. If you want to truly kill them, it’s up to you. That mutant shark is mine!”

With that, Chen Yi spun his blades and charged at the mutant shark.

The shark whipped its tail in an attempt to ambush him. Chen Yi sneered, slicing the tail off and tossing a grenade.

With a thunderous explosion, the mutant shark’s tail was obliterated. It began to retreat, trying to escape into the sea.

Chen Yi would not allow it. He bounded forward, leaping onto its back. As the shark tried to drag him underwater, Chen Ya Xi grew anxious and rushed in, landing several solid blows.

Yet, the battered mutant shark would not give up, still trying to burrow into the water.

Chen Yi realized then that the shark had developed human-like intelligence. It believed that once it reached its domain in the water, the endless horde of mutant marine creatures could launch a collective attack.

Unfortunately for it, though clever, Chen Yi was even more resourceful.

He thrust his blade into the shark’s spine. As it writhed madly, Chen Yi’s left hand erupted with tenfold strength—roaring, he split the shark in two!

As its blood drained and it died, Chen Yi spotted a silver crystal core in its belly.

He used his double blades to extract it, wiped the blood from his hands, and gave Chen Ya Xi a thumbs up.

“Little Ya Xi, you really are my lucky star!”

Chen Ya Xi blushed at his praise.

“Thank you, brother! But you’re my lucky star too!”

Meanwhile, Lu Kai and Hu San Han, after relentlessly attacking the writhing creatures, finally forced them to retreat.

Just as the monsters thought they could escape, Lu Kai and Hu San Han exchanged a glance, then switched to fire guns.

“Die, you monsters!”

As the flamethrowers unleashed blazing fire, the massive creatures were completely annihilated.

Exhausted, Chen Yi and the others exchanged looks, helpless smiles on their faces.

“This phase should be truly over now.”

“Good heavens, that was intense!” Lu Kai threw up his hands, exasperated.

“Brother, when we get back, shouldn’t we report your heroic deeds to your wife?”

“Oh, please—heroic deeds?!” Chen Yi rolled his eyes.

“You talk as if I died. After all these years together, you still don’t speak from the heart!”

“Heh heh!” Lu Kai scratched his head sheepishly.

“I guess I’m just used to it!”
