Chapter Forty-Four: Assault from Both Sides, Catching the Enemy Off Guard
The situation on the battlefield was exceedingly tense; the sounds of gunfire and explosions were a constant presence at Chen Yi’s ear.
“Everyone, retreat! Fall back immediately!”
“Get inside the ship and take cover!”
Seeing that the battle was turning against his side, Chen Yi shouted his orders without hesitation.
“Chen, do we really have to retreat?”
Lu Kai hesitated, still eager for a few more shots.
“They have the advantage in numbers. We cannot force a direct confrontation.”
“Only by retreating can we regroup and redeploy the battlefield.”
Chen Yi commanded decisively.
The team carried out his orders swiftly, retreating toward the inner compartments of the ship.
All the while, Chen Yi kept his eyes on the enemy, only running for cover himself once he was sure everyone had safely withdrawn.
The moment he rounded the corner into the ship, a bullet grazed over his head and struck the wall beside him, leaving a gaping hole.
A cold sweat slid down Chen Yi’s forehead as he ducked.
It was a narrow escape—truly perilous. The enemy’s sniper had skill, able to track his moving silhouette.
If a second shot came, he’d have to find a way to defend himself.
He did not pause, quickly vanishing into the ship’s shadows.
After the fierce clash, the enemy had lost over ten men and their leader—an enormous loss.
On Chen Yi’s side, only one person had been shot in the arm. It was a resounding victory.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted on the warship.
“What do we do now? The boss is dead!”
“Damn it! I failed to protect him!”
“It’s my fault! What should we do?”
“What else? Charge forward! There are so many of us—are we afraid?”
“But who’ll command? You? Or me?”
As they argued, a figure stepped forward—it was Lei Luo, Radar’s younger brother.
“My brother just died. Now I’m taking command!”
“Follow my orders—full assault!”
“No matter the cost, I want them all wiped out!”
His words ignited the bloodlust of the crew.
Each man was eager to avenge Radar.
They launched an all-out attack, over a hundred strong, hoping their superior firepower would suppress Chen Yi’s team and prevent any counterattack.
They seized the moment, storming into the ship for close combat.
Meanwhile, Hu Sanhan had received the news.
Learning of Chen Yi’s peril, he ordered men to hold their position, then led half his team to reinforce him.
“Brothers! Boss Chen is in trouble.”
“He risked himself for us—so we must rescue him!”
Hu Sanhan announced loudly.
“Rescue Boss Chen!”
“Rescue Boss Chen!”
Their shouts rang out, a testament to Chen Yi’s authority among them.
Soon, Hu Sanhan led his group in a raid toward the port.
Upon arrival, he saw the dire situation—the warship’s men were about to storm the ship.
“Damn it!”
“They dare attack our brothers? Flank them from the rear—wipe them out!”
“Don’t let any escape, take them all down!”
With Hu Sanhan’s command, his team quickened their pace.
The rear assault began swiftly.
Lei Luo’s troops, already inside, never noticed Hu Sanhan’s men approaching from behind.
Within moments, over ten men were gunned down in the opening salvo.
“Enemy attack! Enemy attack!”
Lei Luo panicked, immediately taking cover in the midst of his forces.
He had no wish to meet the same fate as his brother—killed in an instant.
The enemy forces turned their firepower toward the rear, charging to repel the attackers.
Hearing the uproar outside, Chen Yi quickly ordered a counterattack.
“Everyone, prepare to fight!”
Lu Kai, tense, gripped his gun. “Chen, what’s the plan?”
“Attack from both sides. Surround the warship’s men.”
“Hu must be flanking them from behind. Our frontal assault will ease the pressure.”
Chen Yi led the charge, spearheading a group of twenty into the fray.
Meanwhile, Hu Sanhan shouted from the rear, “Follow me! Let’s teach them a lesson!”
Gunfire erupted, the scene plunged into chaos.
Soon, both sides’ ammunition was nearly spent.
Many resorted to hand-to-hand combat.
“Kill them!”
Hu Sanhan raised a golden broadsword and charged into the enemy ranks.
The broadsword sliced through the air, trailing a golden arc—ferocious and unstoppable.
“Get up here, don’t let them escape!”
“Fight, rescue Boss Chen!”
The team’s momentum was overwhelming, dominating the field.
At the front, Chen Yi wielded a double-edged blade, his gaze cold.
He covered his teammates while advancing, using cover to push forward. In no time, he had eliminated over ten enemies.
Blood splattered everywhere, shouts echoed, smoke and fire raged.
“Die!”
Chen Yi uttered the word in a deep voice, his blade slicing through an enemy’s chest, blood spurting out.
Another adversary lunged at him, only to be kicked to the ground by Chen Yi, who then finished him with a swift stab.
Under the relentless assault of Hu Sanhan and Chen Yi, the enemy’s defenses collapsed, and they began to retreat.
“Damn it, all of you attack! Get in there!”
“You useless fools!”
Lei Luo berated his men, furious at their inability to defeat what he saw as a ragtag group.
At that moment, someone stepped forward from the rear, wielding a curved sword.
With a sudden thrust, Lei Luo, still shouting, felt a chill in his chest.
Looking down, he saw a gaping wound that pierced through to his back.
“How… how could this happen?”
He could not believe it, despair filling his eyes.
He lost all strength and collapsed to the ground.
The man who killed Lei Luo wore a grim expression, directing the remaining troops to reposition, forming two squads to block the front and rear.
He himself charged straight for Chen Yi.
Clang—
When Chen Yi instinctively swung his blade, he realized he had struck a formidable opponent.
Seeing the man clearly, Chen Yi sensed that he was not to be underestimated.
The man spoke first: “One on one.”
“The loser is yours to deal with—my men as well.”
Chen Yi quickly weighed his options, then said, “Then, have them put down their weapons.”
“Agreed.”
“Everyone, drop your weapons!”
“Now that Radar and Lei Luo are dead, I, Gao Feng, take command! Anyone who refuses my orders… dies!”
