Chapter Twenty-Nine: Fierce Battle!
“Brother Hu, Madman and his men are just ahead. Take your team and deal with them!” While fighting, Chen Yi shouted to Hu Sanhan.
“All of you, follow me!” Hu Sanhan bellowed, leading his men swiftly toward Madman’s position.
“Madman’s Scorpion’s twin stings are treacherous, and Viper’s poison is extremely potent. Most importantly, do not engage the giant zombie head-on. Once it locks onto a target, it won’t change until you’re dead!” As they advanced, Chen Yi didn’t forget to warn them.
Hu Sanhan nodded deeply, but his mind was now even more filled with doubts about Chen Yi’s origins. “Who exactly is this man? How does he know all of this so well?” Iron Wolf was all the more astonished by Chen Yi’s knowledge.
Chen Yi caught the confusion in Iron Wolf’s eyes and extended an invitation for surrender one last time. “I’ll ask you once more—are you sure you won’t join me?”
Iron Wolf glanced at Chen Yi, his eyes icy cold. “No need. We walk different paths.”
Upon hearing this, Chen Yi’s expression hardened. Since the other refused to surrender, there was no longer any mercy to show. No matter how talented, if someone could not be used for his cause and instead stood as an enemy, they would have to be eliminated. In this apocalypse, offering a second chance was already more than generous.
“In that case, just as you escorted me this far, let me escort you down to hell.”
“May you never encounter another apocalypse in your next life.”
Chen Yi’s voice turned frostier still. The moment his words fell, his twin-bladed sword flashed with dazzling speed, cleaving toward Iron Wolf.
Iron Wolf did not back down, his alloy claws gleaming coldly as the two clashed in a fierce contest.
With a resounding clang, Iron Wolf staggered back under the force of Chen Yi’s blow, clearly unable to hold his ground. Murder gleamed in Chen Yi’s eyes; seizing the moment Iron Wolf found his footing, he suddenly swept his twin-bladed sword upward.
Fear flickered in Iron Wolf’s gaze. The next second, he collapsed, the flame of life rapidly extinguishing within him. Blood began to seep slowly from the wound left by the blade.
Chen Yi looked down dispassionately at Iron Wolf’s fallen form. Scenes like this had long since become routine for him. In choosing such an end, meeting such a fate was inevitable.
Afterward, Chen Yi glanced at the distant battlefield, where the fighting still raged. Madman’s men faced Hu Sanhan’s squad in perfect formation, the air thick with the metallic scent of blood.
He did not immediately join the fray, but first sought out Chu Yunxi’s position.
“Chen Yi!”
“You’re finally back.” Seeing his face so close, Chu Yunxi felt truly at peace inside.
“You did well while I was away.” Chen Yi drew her into his arms, offering praise. Then, turning his gaze toward the ongoing battle, his expression grew stern once more.
Madman’s sharp claws flashed with cold light, tracing ghostly arcs through the air. His claws were similar to Iron Wolf’s, but clearly sharper and more lethal. He had already learned from Hu Sanhan’s words that the man he had set his sights on was no mere subordinate—he was actually the very leader of New City Base whom he had always looked down upon: Chen Yi!
With a single leap, Madman dodged Hu Sanhan’s golden broadsword and shouted furiously, “Damn traitor Chen Yi, show yourself!”
Scorpion, too, roared from the side, “Chen Yi, if you’ve got guts, come out and fight me one-on-one! This time, I’ll tear you to pieces!”
Watching his enemies snarl and rage, Chen Yi could only sneer inwardly. Defeated dogs, yet they still dare bark at me here?
“Yunxi, stay here and don’t move. Keep directing the team to support from both flanks.” After a brief instruction, Chen Yi strode quickly into the heart of the battle, heading straight for Madman.
The moment Madman saw Chen Yi, his fury intensified. “Damn it… You actually killed Iron Wolf! I’ll make you pay for this!”
“You have no more chances, Madman,” Chen Yi replied coldly.
As the battle blazed on, the giant zombie broke through all obstacles and charged straight for Madman. It seemed to see nothing but him, its focus unshakable. Until Madman’s death, the attacks would not cease.
That immense figure swung its massive fists, relentlessly pounding at Madman. Yet Madman was agile, dodging with the speed of a rat, slipping nimbly away from each thunderous blow. Even under such threat, he grinned wickedly at Chen Yi.
“Watch closely, all of you!” Madman’s eyes gleamed with a sinister light. With a swift move, he lured the giant zombie toward Chen Yi’s position.
“Where do you think you can run?” Chen Yi had already seen through his ploy and ordered, “Everyone, spread out and clear the ordinary zombies around us first!”
Hu Sanhan and his men responded without hesitation. The golden broadsword swept down, cleaving a zombie in two. Nearby, the squad members fought fiercely, desperately cutting down the tide of undead surging toward them.
Just then, Scorpion darted out from the side, his gaze fixed snake-like upon Chen Yi, madness flickering in his eyes as he raised his twin stings and charged.
“Madman, if we join forces this time, we’ll surely destroy him!” Scorpion snarled through gritted teeth.
He was incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, he was upon Chen Yi, his twin stings gleaming sharply. Without hesitation, Chen Yi drew his twin-bladed sword.
Sparks flew as their weapons clashed in midair.
“Just the likes of you?”
“Scorpion, your skills are nothing worth mentioning!” Chen Yi sneered dismissively.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield, Viper moved ceaselessly, her figure flickering like a phantom, feet swift and nimble. Wherever she went, she suddenly spewed a cloud of poison; ordinary zombies toppled instantly, and even some of Hu Sanhan’s men were affected.
“Damn you, Viper!” Hu Sanhan roared, his towering form charging at her. But Viper only cackled, darting away.
“Can’t catch me, you big oaf!” she taunted, her voice sly as she watched Hu Sanhan stumble into the deadly traps of poison she’d laid, pulling a mocking face.
Back with Chen Yi, Scorpion and Madman attacked in tandem—deadly stings from one side, treacherous claws from the other. Yet Chen Yi’s expression remained unchanged. His body moved with lightning speed, weaving between their assaults, dodging and countering with uncanny precision.
Suddenly, Madman lunged at Chen Yi, his claws flashing coldly as they slashed a cross in the air, then leaped away, creating an opening. In that instant, as Chen Yi’s attention was split, the giant zombie’s massive fist crashed down from behind.
Stones shattered, dust billowed, and chaos reigned. The giant zombie’s slightly delayed attack was exploited perfectly by Madman, forcing Chen Yi to retreat and evade. Seizing the chance, Scorpion lunged from the side once more.
“Let’s see where you run this time!” Scorpion’s eyes glinted with murderous intent.
