Chapter 184: Baptism of the Sea of Blood
"I will follow you!"
Without a moment's hesitation, the Cat King made his choice.
He was no fool; he knew that if he didn't do as Chen Yi and the others said, he would truly end up dead without a whole piece of flesh left on his bones.
Putting everything else aside, just these bizarre mutated creatures right in front of them were more than enough to give the cat clan a terribly difficult time.
"Look!"
At that moment, Chen Yaxi pointed toward the blood-red sky with a look of astonishment.
Accompanied by a deafening roar, an even greater storm was approaching.
"Get in quickly!"
The Great Roc instantly shifted its form and, without another word, opened its wide beak.
The zombie monkeys, the cat clan army, Chen Yi, and the others all filed inside.
As the thunder continued to roll, the situation outside grew increasingly perilous.
The Great Roc spread its wings and dove swiftly into the ocean before the downpour began.
Only here could it truly be the undisputed overlord of the seas.
At this moment, the red glow in the sky grew more and more pronounced. Overcome by a sense of unease, Chen Yi released a toxic radiance, forming a protective barrier around the Great Roc.
Meanwhile, all the members of Organization X inside their fighter jets were still finding it rather amusing.
They believed that Chen Yi and his people were simply cowardly and entirely unworthy of fear.
The leader of Organization X, however, frowned deeply.
"Don't be careless! Right now, Chen Yi and the others are just gathering their strength. We still don't know whether this crimson deluge will have any major impact on us!"
Just at that instant, the bloody downpour was unleashed in full force!
The fighter jets were instantly perforated like sieves!
In a fraction of a second, every single member of Organization X was blown to smithereens in mid-air.
Everyone hiding within the Great Roc's mouth felt a chill run down their spines.
George now understood why Chen Yi had insisted on hoarding sufficient food; this catastrophic disaster was truly fraught with too much uncertainty and danger.
Protected by the white toxic radiance, the Great Roc remained completely unharmed, while the surrounding marine life suffered a devastating fate.
From inside the Great Roc's mouth, Chen Yi and the others watched helplessly as every fish was hacked into pieces by the bizarre, bloody rain. At the same time, the Disaster Spell Disc—which had previously vanished—suddenly reappeared!
"This doesn't make sense!"
Chu Yunxi frowned slightly.
"A-Yi, this thing only appears once every few months. Why is it showing up so frequently now?"
"I'm afraid that ever since the rules were altered, this artifact exists solely to serve some evil power. It's going to be extremely difficult for us to seize control of this force."
As he said this, a familiar irritation welled up inside Chen Yi once again.
"Judging by normal circumstances, a blood rain at most alters the survival patterns of certain life forms; it shouldn't cause large-scale slaughter. The only reason we're seeing such anomalous conditions now, I suspect, is because the touch of evil power has reached far beyond humanity."
Little Roc leaped into Chen Yi's arms at that moment, blinking its small eyes. "Big Brother Chen Yi, both my father and I will always help you!"
Chen Yi flashed a reassuring smile toward the little creature.
"Of course I know you'll help, but this matter requires effort from our side as well, aside from your assistance."
With that, Chen Yi narrowed his eyes. After a moment of deep thought, he spoke.
"The days ahead of us will be even tougher than before. Everyone must plan carefully and make sure not to harbor any more erroneous notions."
"Are we just going to stay in here then?!"
Watching the ceaseless blood rain, Chen Yaxi could not suppress her mounting anxiety.
It was still impossible to determine just how vast the destructive range of this blood rain's power would be.
A closer look revealed that everything around them had been swallowed by a sea of blood, with only scattered debris floating on the surface of the water.
Seeing the mutilated fragments of human corpses floating about, both Chu Yunxi and Chen Yaxi felt a wave of intense nausea churn in their stomachs.
However, having witnessed far too many scenes of this nature, the two women managed to restrain themselves, trying their utmost to suppress the physical discomfort.
Because a single moment of carelessness at a time like this could trigger even greater commotion, they could not afford to lower their guard.
"I'll go out and take a look."
Chen Yi decided to step outside, but Chu Yunxi grabbed his arm, her brow tightly furrowed.
"Your strength is impressive, but there's no way of knowing what other risks might lurk out there. What if unexpected dangers arise?"
"Don't forget I still have the power of the toxic radiance."
Chen Yi smiled again. "Trust me, I'll be fine. Let me out in a moment, and have the others stay put. Remember, nobody is allowed to come out without my explicit permission."
The Great Roc immediately opened its beak, allowing Chen Yi to depart swiftly.
Chen Yaxi walked over to Chu Yunxi and offered a faint smile. "Big Brother will definitely be fine. Don't overthink it. Right now, all we can do is wait, isn't that so?"
"Alright, I understand."
Peering outward, Chu Yunxi's gaze remained tense. "Let's just hope everything goes safely and smoothly."
Once outside, Chen Yi realized the situation was far worse than he had imagined.
The combination of the white light and the red blood rain induced severe dizziness. Although the toxic radiance around his body could fend off those forces, it inevitably came with certain side effects.
Chen Yi could not be certain whether any members of Organization X had survived, but there was no doubt the previous batch had been completely wiped out.
Scale-like markings had begun to appear on the bodies of the zombies outside, as if they had evolved to an entirely new level.
Fighting them under these conditions would likely result in a disastrous defeat. To test his hypothesis, Chen Yi hurled his dual-edged blades at them, but the targets scattered instantly with astonishing, swallow-like agility.
It seemed the evolved zombies had fundamentally transformed, exceeding even his expectations.
Having completed his observation, Chen Yi decided it was time to head back.
Just at that moment, the sea began to churn with boiling waves, followed by a deafening, sky-shattering roar. A massive monster burst forth from the depths, its face covered in hideous scars. Yet, what remained unchanged was its frantic motion of clawing endlessly at its own head, refusing to stop even as blood streamed freely.
This bizarre sight baffled Chen Yi. He used his communicator to capture the image and transmitted it to Chu Yunxi inside the Great Roc's mouth. After analyzing the image, Chu Yunxi concluded that this was a monster formed from the coagulated fragments of various lingering souls—a manifestation directly triggered by the crimson rain.
Even if it was merely a hollow shell, the sheer horror of fighting it would be immense, and it certainly couldn't be destroyed through trivial means.
The terror of mutated entities lay not in their diverse species, but in the inability to ever truly know how many unknown abilities they had absorbed from the very beginning.
Now, with too many uncertainties at play, Chen Yi decided on a strategic retreat.
