Chapter 172: The Deeply Scheming Zombie
Chen Yi sensed something was off about this guy and immediately stopped Teng She from devouring him. Teng She hadn’t been interested in those creatures to begin with, so he hadn’t attacked the scoundrel; however, he was puzzled by Chen Yi’s unusual behavior.
“Boss, why are you saving such a despicable man?” Teng She asked.
Chen Yi smiled slightly. “This guy harbors ill intentions. Though I haven’t fully figured it out yet, I’m certain this won’t be so simple.”
Hearing this, Teng She chuckled as well. “He’s got a bomb inside him, maybe that’s why he’s so arrogant.”
That remark startled the blue zombie immensely.
“How do you know that?” it demanded.
Teng She smiled coldly. “You think others are fools, but they’re not. Do you really believe I can’t sense something like that? If I couldn’t, then I’d be an idiot.”
The blue zombie let out a bitter laugh, realizing all his efforts were in vain; others had long since discovered what was hidden within him.
A cold sneer curled Chen Yi’s lips, his gaze sharpening. “If you already knew what kind of person I am, then you should have taken my life earlier.”
“No need,” Teng She said indifferently, shrugging. Despite his hatred for the man before him, he had his own plans.
“Until the boss agrees, I won’t take your life. Besides, for a despicable man like you, living is the real punishment. Death would only be a release, wouldn’t it?”
“You—!” The blue zombie, once triumphant, suddenly felt drained as if all his strength had been sucked away. Though a massive creature, Teng She’s insight was unnervingly profound.
“Truly despicable,” Chen Yaxi shook her head.
“Brother, what should we do now? Since he’s come up with the bomb idea, he’s bound to attack us,” she urged.
“It’s not his doing,” Chen Yi shook his head firmly.
“Such an action could only come from his superior. I don’t know who that is, but one thing’s certain: his boss holds no affection for him. I suspect this superior anticipated everything and planned to detonate the bomb inside this guy. Everyone, fall back.”
“What did you say?” The blue zombie, who had been betting on whether Chen Yi’s group would act, turned deathly pale upon hearing this.
The boss would kill him? Impossible—he’d done nothing!
Seeing the zombie’s stubbornness, Chen Yi shook his head. “There are all kinds of people in this world, but this is the first time I’ve met someone who actively wants others to torture and kill for him. Your abilities are truly strange.”
“No, that can’t be,” the zombie’s lips trembled, his brows furrowed, fists slowly clenching. “I don’t believe you. Why would my master—”
“People change,” Chen Yi interrupted, sighing. “There are countless people and situations that defy rules. You’ve already violated the laws of survival. You think that person is your friend, but from the moment you appeared in his life, he decided to use you for his own ends. This isn’t my decision alone. If you want to find out whether he’s truly so ruthless, you can try going back—but I doubt you’ll escape again.”
Chen Yi’s words carried a heavy implication. The blue zombie shuddered at the thought.
Could it be that his boss would really kill him once he returned?
The once arrogant man was now speechless, trembling.
“No! Chen Yi, don’t think you can manipulate me with these schemes—”
“You don’t have to believe me. I’ve told you from the start, I’m not forcing your acceptance,” Chen Yi sighed, shaking his head. He did not wish to shatter anyone’s illusions, but when matters of self-interest arose, he had no choice but to confront them.
Since the blue zombie refused to listen, Chen Yi saw no reason to help him anymore.
“If you want to die, get lost,” Chen Yi said firmly. “Don’t drag my people into this. Now get out of here.”
Seeing Chen Yi’s resolute stance, the man began to tremble, realizing Chen Yi was no fool. This step must have been taken for a reason.
“Pathetic,” Chen Yi muttered.
At that moment, Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan shrugged and looked on with schadenfreude.
“To be used like this and not even know it—selling your life for that person is truly a waste.”
“Tell me about it,” Lu Kai agreed.
Chen Yi furrowed his brow. “That guy is truly formidable, manipulating everyone like puppets. I only just discovered the bomb inside this man is just one part of the plan. There’s probably another hand behind him. If he fails, more forces might step into our affairs.”
“Don’t be afraid,” Kunpeng roared fiercely. “If that guy dares show up, we’ll stand united to take him down. Boss, rest assured—we’ll support you and won’t let those troublemakers continue their schemes.”
“I know,” Chen Yi smiled at them. “From the beginning, I never doubted your strength. I only want all of you to be safe.”
“Danger is secondary,” the others waved dismissively. “What we fear most is any mishap on your side. This zombie doesn’t look friendly. We can’t allow such trouble to persist.”
“Trouble is one thing,” Chen Yi frowned again. “What worries me is whether this bastard has other tricks hidden behind the scenes. If he’s just pretending to be pitiful to gain sympathy, then this is going to get really complicated.”
“Just kill him already!” Chen Yaxi frowned. “We can’t let this scoundrel keep causing problems. Brother, you can’t keep being threatened by such a despicable man—it’s unbearable and leaves you vulnerable!”
“I understand,” Chen Yi nodded solemnly. “But I can’t yet confirm if things are truly as we suspect. Let’s watch and wait. If he continues to act suspiciously, I’ll deal with him then.”
