Even though Chen Yi had said this, the young man still had thoughts of his own.

In an age of upheaval, simply staying alive was difficult enough. To think of saving someone else was nothing short of ridiculous.

So he tentatively began to retreat.

But Chen Yi naturally noticed his movement. With a swift strike, he subdued the young man once more.

The youth began to roar, his eyes filled with deep resentment.

“What are you doing? Didn’t you already decide to spare me? Why won’t you let me go now?”

“Why should I let you go?”

Chen Yi looked coldly at him again and gave a derisive laugh. “Do you really think that if I let you go, you’ll be able to escape the X Organization’s schemes? Stop dreaming. Since they’ve already decided to deal with you and used a restriction to turn you into a sacrifice, they won’t let you live on. They won’t even give you five days.”

The young man found this difficult to believe. Could it be that the person before him knew some inside information?

Yet asking him to believe the words of a stranger was simply too much. Thus, even though he knew that Chen Yi might be the only person capable of saving him, he still refused to reveal anything more about the X Organization.

Chu Yunxi was beginning to lose control of her emotions and was about to act, but Chen Yi stopped her.

Chen Yi shook his head. “What use is there in forcing him now? He’s destined not to change anything. I know that, in many ways, he’s already beyond saving.”

“If you know that, why give him another chance?”

Chu Yunxi raised an eyebrow again, still seething with indignation.

Clearly, her patience with that conceited fool had reached its limit.

Seeing her reaction, the young man grew even more agitated.

“Don’t you all look down on me? Then kill me. I’m already a dead man anyway.”

Perhaps driven by despair, the young man began trying to injure himself, even attempting to cut his wrists.

“Madman.”

Hu Sanhan and the others simply stared at him, finding the scene almost laughable.

Chen Yi released three streams of poisonous light. As they coiled around the young man, they slowly began drawing the spell within his body out of him.

A moment later, as Chen Yi felt a vast surge of spell power enter his own body, the fifth and sixth markings on him gradually emerged. As the young man’s strange power flowed into him, Chen Yi let out a roar, and the wings on his back turned a brilliant crimson-gold.

“Boss, have you mutated again? That’s incredible!”

Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan were both astonished. They could not help applauding and cheering.

The young man felt as though half the strength had been drained from his body and collapsed heavily to the ground. Yet unlike before, the pain in his chest seemed to be fading. For a moment, he was utterly stunned.

He lifted his head and stared at Chen Yi. He could not find the words to speak.

“What is it?”

Chen Yi swept him a glance and gave a mocking laugh.

“Have you discovered something amazing?”

“No, I just…”

Chen Yi waved a hand again and said, “The spell afflicting you has been removed. You no longer need to worry about when you’ll die. You may doubt me when I say this, but if you don’t believe me, you’ll know the truth within five days.”

“Chen Yi, is that really true?”

The young man suddenly began to cry. The reaction left Chen Yi momentarily stunned.

“Didn’t you say you weren’t afraid of death? Why are you acting like this now?”

“I’m not afraid to die, but there’s still a mission I must complete.”

At last, the young man revealed what was truly in his heart.

The X Organization had not only captured him; they had taken his younger sister as well. To this day, he had been unable to find any trace of her. That was the greatest pain he carried within him.

After learning the truth, Chen Yi could not help looking at him with a sigh.

“You should have told me about this. I may not be able to solve the matter entirely, but that doesn’t mean I can’t find someone to help investigate it. Besides, I have the Roc here—the strongest creature when it comes to locating people by sound.”

The young man was overwhelmed with shame.

Only moments ago, he had wanted to kill Chen Yi, yet now this man was willing to risk his life to save him. He had no idea how to face such kindness.

His face turned pale. “I know you’re a good person, but I’ve already joined the X Organization, and I gave them my word.”

“Your word means nothing.”

Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan immediately looked at him with contempt.

“If you truly believed in keeping such a promise, shouldn’t your parents be the people to whom you owe a lifetime of devotion? Failing to protect your sister was your responsibility. Why push the blame onto someone else? From the moment the X Organization set its sights on you, your sister was already doomed.”

The young man could no longer hold back his tears. He burst into sobs.

“It was my fault. I brought this upon my sister!”

“That’s enough.”

Chen Yi cut off Hu Sanhan and stepped forward to pull the young man to his feet.

“Stop crying. It won’t help. Just answer me one thing: do you want to save her?”

“I do! I’ve dreamed of saving her!”

The young man raised his head again, his gaze resolute.

“I’m willing to give you everything I have.”

Chen Yi shook his head. “I don’t want anything from you. All we want is to help people solve their problems. From now on, behave yourself and stop causing trouble.”

“Do I still have my abilities?”

The young man asked the question with a trace of hope in his heart.

Chen Yi shook his head at him. “Start over, slowly. You were afflicted by a spell, and in order to save you, I transferred everything out of your body. I was luckier than you—the toxins in my body neutralized the spell, so its power is now under my control.”

“That’s good.”

The young man let out a sigh of relief.

“As long as I didn’t harm you, then everything is fine. If saving me had injured you, I never could have forgiven myself.”

“Forget about that for now.”

Lu Kai patted Chen Yi on the shoulder.

“Boss, an aircraft carrier has appeared! Could it be that people from the X Organization have come to take this man back?”

Chen Yi turned around and saw a massive aircraft carrier slowly approaching through the white mist.

“Everyone, stay alert!”

Chen Yi’s gaze was sharp as a blade.

“Whatever their purpose, the young man is in our hands now, so we are not handing him over. If anyone even thinks of doing that, they’ll answer to me!”
