Chapter 139: A Meticulous Battle Plan

“Fifteen men, come with me. We’re charging in. The rest of you stay aboard the warship and wait. Remember—if anyone dares rebel, kill them!”
Chen Yi’s gaze was cold as frost, frightening the spineless lot into retreating several steps.
If they kept causing trouble this time, they would certainly end up in serious trouble.
They immediately lowered their heads and submitted.
Once Chen Yi was certain they would not cause any further trouble, he set off with Lu Kai and fifteen capable men to confront the mutated zombies.
There were more zombies than ever before.
It was obvious that a head-on clash would inevitably lead to considerable trouble.
Chen Yi turned to Lu Kai and gave him an order.
“You and the brothers stay here and observe the surroundings. I’ll go test these creatures first.”
“Don’t do anything reckless.”
Lu Kai moved closer.
“Boss, this isn’t something to take lightly. We should think carefully about how to face this crisis together, instead of making you bear everything alone!”
“Enough.”
Chen Yi’s manner was resolute.
“Now that I’ve said it, I have no intention of turning back. And you need to be careful as well. Don’t let those people seize the advantage while we’re distracted.”
Although Chen Yi had not made himself entirely clear, Lu Kai understood the hidden meaning: he wanted him to keep an eye on this group.
The men before them appeared submissive enough, but whether they truly had no intention of making some despicable move and provoking them remained uncertain.
Lu Kai showed no alarm. He merely thumped his chest and promised, “Don’t worry. Leave it to me.”
Only then did Chen Yi swiftly unfurl his wings. The eight red blades on his body gradually revealed themselves.
They had thought that Chen Yi’s supernatural ability and immense reserves of crystal energy were already astonishing enough. But after witnessing the scene before them with their own eyes, these men, who had never seen much of the world, were finally overcome by genuine fear.
If they continued making trouble, the consequences would surely be even worse.
At that moment, Chen Yi watched the horde of zombies bare their fangs and claws. With a cold laugh, he rapidly swung his twin blades, cleaving the charging zombies in two and smoothly catching the crystals that fell from their bodies.
The power within the crystal was truly astonishing. Even when merely held in his hand, its scorching heat could be felt.
“Brother Chen is so cool!”

The lackeys standing to one side and watching were instantly left trembling with fear.
“Wow, that power is incredible! It’s completely different from Zhou Sheng, that bastard who only knew how to threaten us with weapons. This is real strength!”
“Exactly!”
Another man’s eyes were filled with hope.
“As long as we follow Boss Chen Yi, we’re guaranteed to win. We can’t be so foolish as to follow someone else and let them drag us into pointless trouble!”
Lu Kai felt that this was a reasonable assessment.
These men were not all brainless. Some of them were still capable of seeing the bigger picture.
Just then, a series of creaking sounds suddenly came from within the group.
Lu Kai sensed it before anyone else. He swiftly raised the AK in his hands and carefully scanned the surroundings. Sure enough, among the people who had pledged their allegiance, there was a newly afflicted mutated zombie.
Before anyone else could react, Lu Kai opened fire.
Seeing this, several of the men who had just surrendered were instantly enraged.
“What is the meaning of this? We surrendered, and you still treat us so cruelly?”
“Idiots!”
Lu Kai gave a cold laugh. He pointed at the dead man on the ground and raised his brows.
“The corpse spots have already appeared on him, and you still consider him human? Think about it. In a post-apocalyptic world like this, what could possibly be impossible?”
His words were crude, but the truth in them was undeniable.
Although Lu Kai obeyed Chen Yi in everything, he did not worship him blindly. There was logic behind every word he spoke.
If that was the case, then it was only natural for the others to accept what had happened.
Lu Kai swept his gaze across the men before him and spoke with a mocking smile.
“I don’t need anyone’s tolerance or forgiveness for the things I do. If any of you have something to say today, speak up directly. Don’t stand there pretending to be innocent. I won’t pity you.”
He swung his twin blades once more. Lu Kai remained composed, but his intent to kill was unmistakable.
The incident had happened so suddenly that it was inevitable the henchmen who had betrayed Zhou Sheng would develop other thoughts. Some extreme reactions were only to be expected.
Lu Kai, however, had prepared for this long ago. Alone, he suppressed everyone before him with sheer force of presence.
After Chen Yi annihilated a large swath of zombies in the distance, he turned back and saw Lu Kai keeping the men—who still harbored a trace of resentment—firmly under control. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief.

It seemed that Kai could still handle these unexpected situations with ease.
Chen Yi turned his gaze back to the horde of zombies, and his eyes grew darker.
With someone guarding the rear, it was time for him to—
“Chen Yi.”
The zombies before him suddenly parted and stood in two lines. Then, as a voice rang out, a man in a black robe walked out from among them.
He was not a zombie. Chen Yi could clearly sense the unmistakable aura of a human emanating from him.
The man noticed Chen Yi’s reaction and gave a mocking laugh.
“I know you’re a clever man. But even the cleverest people eventually have to compromise with life.”
As he spoke, he spread his hands and introduced himself.
“I am Wang Tingzhi, a senior adviser of Organization X. But unlike the others, I know better how to protect myself. You may not know this, but while you were busy growing stronger, I had already begun laying plans to manipulate even more people.”
“So what?” Chen Yi stared coldly at him. “Do you think dragging out these zombies whose minds have been hollowed out will be enough to deal me a blow?”
The words left the man speechless, and his expression changed abruptly.
Chen Yi’s composure had completely exceeded his calculations. It was something he had never anticipated.
He had assumed that merely revealing the situation would force Chen Yi to submit. Yet Chen Yi had shown him not the slightest indulgence.
After adjusting the angle of his attack, Chen Yi launched his assault without another word. In an instant, he slaughtered the row of zombies beside the man and then drove his attack straight toward him.
The man drew a military saber and engaged Chen Yi in combat, but his mediocre skills were utterly incapable of harming Chen Yi. He was defeated in short order and kicked to the ground.
When the man tried to rise and continue fighting, Chen Yi planted his left foot heavily on him.
“I thought the people from Organization X were supposed to be formidable. It turns out you’re nothing special. With abilities like yours, you still dare to run around causing trouble? You must be looking for death!”
Wang Tingzhi felt as though he could no longer breathe. He pounded desperately against Chen Yi’s foot as he cried out,
“You—you can’t kill me!”
Chen Yi shook his head with a contemptuous laugh.
“No. I can kill you. Not only can I kill you—I should kill you.”
