Such things are truly disheartening.

If the apocalypse were merely nature’s retaliation against humanity, most people might accept it; after all, humanity made its mistakes and should bear the brunt of the disaster. However, the suffering and grievances caused by human hands are beyond measure.

"Boss, look!"

Lu Kai spotted something. Chen Yi followed the direction of his finger and saw a boat approaching them. He quickly drew his pistol and urged everyone around him to stay alert. Seeing Chen Yi’s reaction, even the usually composed Chu Yunxi tensed up.

"Is this the start of another danger, Brother Yi?"

"I don't know," Chen Yi said, shaking his head slightly. "But being prepared is never wrong."

"That’s true." Chu Yunxi quickly drew her fire-musket, ready for battle at any moment.

Nearby, Chen Yaxi sent her flying shuttle spinning repeatedly above the strangers' heads, which clearly annoyed them. "You brat, don't think you're so special just because you have an ability. There are plenty of talented people on our side!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Yaxi stopped her shuttle, spread her wings, and hovered in the air. "From what you're saying, you have abilities too. Since you're so confident, why don't you..."

"Yaxi, stand down."

Before she knew it, Chen Yi had flown to her side and directed her back to Chu Yunxi, his eyes fixed on the strangers. "What exactly do you want?"

"Don't misunderstand," the man across from them said with a slight smile. "We have no other intentions."

"Do you take us for fools?" Chen Yaxi, still hovering, stuck out her tongue and made faces at them. "If you claim you have no ulterior motives, that would be the strangest thing of all. Your hearts are black!"

Hearing Chen Yaxi’s words, the group couldn't help but look helpless. "Why won't you believe that our arrival here was purely accidental?"

"It wasn't an accident."

Chen Yi looked at them with resolute eyes. "From your route and your attire, it is clear that this journey was meticulously planned. The reason you told us those things is likely to win our sympathy! Tell me, why are you really here? You’re here to seize our resources, aren't you?"

"Boss, why waste so much breath on them?" Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan stepped forward. "Since they won't say anything, let’s just fight. It’s better to let our fists do the talking."

"No nonsense!" Chen Yi shook his head. "Regardless of their motives, they haven't attacked us yet. If you strike first, you’ll be the aggressors, and we’ll be the ones in the wrong."

"What time do you think this is!" Lu Kai was getting impatient. "Brother, if I may, this is no time to be talking about principles."

Chen Yi frowned again. "Listen to me: it is better to follow the rules."

Although they were unhappy with the strangers, Chen Yi was the backbone of the group. Once he spoke, Chu Yunxi and the others stood down.

At that exact moment, the sky tore open with a massive crack. As the fissure deepened, a half-human, half-beast creature emerged, wearing a hideous grin.

*“The Doomsday Judgment is about to begin. Are you all ready? Those who lose... will die!”*

Although Hals was a snake-man, seeing this grotesque, inhuman creature made him want to vomit. The creature was insidious, and its aura suggested it had absorbed the essence of many ability users. It was clear this being survived by consuming the power of others.

"Chen Yi," the dozen men on the small boat said, their faces grave. "Now you see how dire the situation is. This creature has destroyed eighty or ninety percent of all ability users, and we are struggling to survive."

Chen Yi sneered. "So I was right—you were cooperating with us for your own ambitions."

"That’s different!" The man’s face flushed with shame, but a second later, a chilling wind swept through.

Sensing danger, Chen Yi pulled his friends behind him just in time. The men on the small boat, unable to react, were torn apart by the monster. Seeing the men ripped in two, even Chen Yaxi couldn't help but gag.

"Brother, this thing is too terrifying. What should we do? I’m scared."

"Don't be afraid," Chen Yi said, his brow furrowed. "I’m here. I’ll deal with him."

The blood-drenched beast-man turned his attention toward them with a cold smile. "Those fools got what they deserved, but you lot don't seem like pushovers either. Let’s play a game; if you win, I’ll let you go."

"No one is going to play your games." Chen Yi brandished his dual blades. The beast-man glanced at the unique weapons with a hint of menace. "Chen Yi, I’m being serious. If you don't agree to my terms, I can kill you whenever I want."

Chen Yi unleashed a flash of toxic light, and the beast-man immediately felt his strength deserting him. This sudden weakness left him stunned. He had always been the one to toy with others' lives; when had his own life ever been toyed with? As Chen Yi stepped closer, the beast-man began to feel true fear.

"Chen Yi, you can't kill me!"

Chen Yi sneered, his eyes filled with nothing but intent to kill. He fused his blades into one, deciding not to leave the creature any path to survival. "You chose to push this to the limit, so now, face the consequences. Everything ends here!"

In the next second, Chen Yi lunged forward and severed the creature's head. As the beast-man was slain, his body dissolved into countless crystal cores. Chen Yi and his group were stunned, but they quickly began gathering the scattered treasures.

Chen Yaxi, shedding her fear, clapped her hands in delight. "I knew Brother was the best! We’ve gotten so many amazing things!"

*“The game... isn't over yet!”*

As the cold voice echoed from the sky once more, zombies began to swarm in from all directions, causing Chen Yi to frown. It seemed that beyond human schemes, the zombies had their own layers of traps, unfolding endlessly.
