Chapter 131: Fraught with Problems
"Of course they will return."
Chen Yi had a clear plan for this situation.
"Let’s ignore this fellow Jack for now, as our primary enemies remain these controlled frozen zombies. The greatest threat they pose is their relentless persistence; they will not stop until they have achieved their goal or killed us."
"They want to kill us? Just wait and see, I’ll show them—"
"Don't be impulsive."
After holding Hu Sanhan back, Chen Yi carefully observed the controlled frozen zombies.
"Why don't we turn the tables? If we can neutralize the virus within them, we could repurpose them as our own weapons."
"Is that even possible?"
Everyone looked at Chen Yi, bewildered. "That sounds far too complicated to implement."
Chen Yi smiled calmly. "If viewed through a conventional lens, of course it’s impossible, but I have my own methods."
With that, Chen Yi rushed toward the frozen zombies. As they lunged at him, he immediately released a triple-layered beam of light.
As the three rays pierced through the zombies, the toxic energy was gradually absorbed into Chen Yi’s own body. A fourth, purple-hued light manifested around his wrists, instantly elevating his ant-gene strength to a new height.
The flow of different toxic energies made Chen Yi realize that the evolution within them was astonishing. While he might not yet be a match for the most powerful adversaries, he felt confident enough to contend with standard opponents.
He turned his gaze to the others. "Remember, show no mercy to these zombies. Any hesitation on your part will only lead to your own destruction."
Chu Yunxi and the others quickly sprang into action, taking advantage of the expanding toxic light released by Chen Yi to cut down the zombies without a second thought.
Watching the zombies fall one by one, Hu Sanhan couldn't help but marvel, "The boss is the boss, as always. He considers everything more thoroughly than anyone else."
Witnessing this, Jack finally understood the gap between himself and Chen Yi. This was not a man he could hope to deal with. Chen Yi’s overwhelming power was simply beyond measure.
Taking a sharp breath, Jack began to retreat quietly, but his movements were immediately noticed by Chen Yi. However, Chen Yi didn't bother to waste any effort on such a pathetic, rat-like figure, as the Great Kunpeng had already issued a warning: an unusual creature was approaching.
As the creature emerged, Chen Yi and the others felt their hearts leap into their throats. It was a Deep-Sea Demon Whale, its strength appearing to be on par with the Great Kunpeng.
The Demon Whale’s eyes burned with malice, clearly prepared to strike. Chen Yi brandished his dual blades, quickly scanned his team, and commanded:
"Attack!"
In an instant, everyone launched their assault against the colossal beast.
Jack, who had been hoping to sneak away, suddenly found another whale heading in his direction. Terrified, he fled in the opposite direction without a word. However, the Demon Whale was not so easily fooled; realizing Jack was fearful, it pursued him even more relentlessly.
"Go away! Get lost! Don't follow me; I’m not Chen Yi, I can’t fight you!" Jack cried out in frustration.
His efforts were in vain; no matter how he pleaded, the Demon Whale continued to hunt him down. Chen Yi and his team saw this, but they had no intention of concerning themselves with Jack's fate, focusing their efforts entirely on the Demon Whale.
The beast let out a thunderous roar, unleashing a wave of pressure upon them. Yet, it underestimated Chen Yi’s power. Without hesitation, Chen Yi unleashed his three-fold toxic beams, binding the creature and creating the perfect opening for the Great Kunpeng to strike.
The Great Kunpeng acted swiftly, knocking the beast to the ground. The creature roared in pain, attempting to flee, but it was too late. With a powerful sweep of its tail, the Great Kunpeng rendered it completely immobile.
Just as the Great Kunpeng prepared to finish the beast off, Chen Yi noticed something amiss. The Demon Whale, which had been on the verge of death, was suddenly recovering its strength.
"Great Kunpeng, retreat!"
Following Chen Yi’s order, the Great Kunpeng pulled back just in time to dodge a lethal strike. The Demon Whale had fully recovered, its cold, predatory gaze fixed on Chen Yi and the others. It was clear it was embarking on a brutal retaliation.
"What is happening?" Chu Yunxi gasped.
The situation had turned dire in an instant. Had they not noticed, the Great Kunpeng would have been mauled to death—a nightmare scenario for them all.
Chen Yi gave a cold snort. "I thought Jack was only experimenting on zombies, but I underestimated his interference with the forces of nature."
"These deep-sea creatures have already undergone massive mutations due to human recklessness. Even without the zombies, these creatures would have changed drastically. The reason this beast didn't die is likely because it has been infected with the zombie's 'resurrection' capability. We must not act rashly now."
"You can't be serious. What are we supposed to do?" The mention of the resurrection power made everyone anxious. "If we can't kill it, what then?"
"Don't panic," Chen Yi said, his brow furrowed. "I tell you, we cannot resolve every problem right now. All we can do is our best and leave the rest to fate. The Great Kunpeng is our friend, and we will protect it with everything we have."
"Understood."
The group gathered their strength once more, preparing to strike the Demon Whale again.
"Chen Yi," the Great Kunpeng spoke up. "Everything in the world has its own law of growth. Do not force things too far."
Chen Yi listened, sensing a deeper warning. "Are you planning to go down with it?"
"There is no other way. I entrust the little Kunpeng to you. I hope you can help it survive."
The Great Kunpeng moved forward slowly, its jaws agape.
"I am glad to have known you humans. Go forth, keep yourselves safe, and do not let the dangers before you limit your potential! If I survive this, I shall remain by your side."
