Chapter 126: Clash of Formidable Foes
"Actually..." Chen Yi smiled at this moment.
"Why should we bother researching a new base ourselves? Since we have discovered this place, let's first investigate how many enemies are there. If they are like-minded, we can join them and handle the zombies together; if they aren't, we fight them to the end!"
Chu Yunxi nodded. "I understand what you mean. If they aren't like-minded friends, we just wipe them out."
"Exactly." Chen Yi nodded again, his expression solemn. "We don't have a second chance, so this time, we must win through daring."
Although Chu Yunxi felt that seizing everything from others was a bit excessive, if this was the only chance for everyone to survive, there was no need to act like a saint. After all, no one in the apocalypse was forever innocent. It was hard to say whether the people in this secret underground base were truly innocent, which made it all the more necessary to consider the subsequent issues carefully.
"Well?" Chen Yi looked at Chu Yunxi once more. He knew her nature was much softer than his own and wondered if she could truly handle the weight of this choice and the conflict that would follow.
However, Chu Yunxi smiled slightly. "Don't worry. I am not a foolish or incompetent girl. I know what price you have paid for me, so at this moment, I am naturally on your side. Chen Yi, from the day you chose me, I have never betrayed you for anyone else."
Hearing this, Chen Yi felt much more satisfied. He turned his attention back to the others. "Then it is time for us to unite and face the outside world together."
He flew quickly toward Lu Kai and the others to explain the plan. They had just finished their own tasks, and upon hearing Chen Yi’s ideas, they immediately agreed.
"Great! We must put on a good show and rebuild the base. We cannot let the original 'Newborn Squad' vanish just like that."
"Don't worry," Chen Yi said again. "The Newborn Squad will not disappear."
With everyone gathered, they began brainstorming a way to adapt to breathing underwater.
Chen Yaxi suggested that since they were imitating life on the surface, they could bring respirators or use bamboo tubes to breathe from the surface while swimming down.
"That won't work." Chen Yi shook his head immediately and tapped Chen Yaxi on the head. "That would backfire. If a zombie were to bite the tube, you would end up inhaling toxic gas."
In fact, Chen Yi had another factor in mind: if they used such a traditional method to draw in oxygen, all the mutated forces in the atmosphere would be pulled into their bodies, forming a power that would be impossible to dispel. If this force resulted in evolution, that would be fine, but no one knew if it would be a blessing or a curse. This was why Chen Yi was so persistent on this matter.
Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan supported Chen Yi’s choice and ruffled Chen Yaxi’s hair. "You really are just a child. You haven't grown up yet. Do you realize that if you solve the survival problem the way you suggested, a major disaster is bound to happen?"
"Why?" Chen Yaxi blinked, unable to grasp their concerns. "I know breathing in toxic gas is wrong, but can't we just find a way to purify the air? I think as long as we rely on the boss's evolutionary abilities, we can solve this problem entirely."
"I don't have that kind of absolute certainty," Chen Yi replied. "There is no such thing as a sure-fire success in this world. Actually, I feel a bit ashamed bringing you all along to fight by my side; after all, in life-or-death matters like this, you should have a say in the decision-making."
"Not true at all!" Chen Yaxi protested. "We can only survive because Big Brother is here. If it weren't for you, we would have died regardless of who else was in charge, right, Sister?"
Chu Yunxi nodded in agreement. "Brother Yi, don't overthink it. Just tell us all your thoughts, and we will naturally support you if we feel you are right."
"That’s right, Boss," Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan added. "If there’s a problem, we’ll discuss it together. In short, our hearts are as one. Don't let some hypocritical words ruin our relationship."
Chen Yi shook his head helplessly. "I really can't handle you lot. Fine, if that's the case, then we will do as you say."
To reach the seabed safely, Chen Yi explored various methods. Meanwhile, the Great Kunpeng and the Little Kunpeng kept appearing before them intentionally.
At first, Chen Yi didn't pay much attention, but later, he felt something was off. The Great Kunpeng was usually very polite and mindful of boundaries. Yet, at such a critical juncture, it was jumping around with the Little Kunpeng, which was completely out of character. Was it trying to tell him something?
With this in mind, Chen Yi probed the Great Kunpeng. "Are you trying to tell us something?"
To his surprise, the Great Kunpeng actually nodded. It communicated through a mental voice, telling Chen Yi that if they entered its belly, they could use the air in the cavities of the Great and Little Kunpeng to reach the underwater world. As for what they would face once they reached the seabed, that would depend entirely on Chen Yi and his team.
Chen Yi initially thought this was too risky, but the Kunpengs kept calling out to them, leaving him no choice but to take the risk. If they succeeded, it would mean a brand-new era for them.
Consequently, Chen Yi shared the proposal with Chu Yunxi and the others.
"My god!" Lu Kai's eyes widened. "We have to go inside the Great Kunpeng's stomach? What if it changes its mind and eats us?"
"It won't," Chen Yi said with a calm smile. "I have the ability to open its body. But I must also tell you that I trust the Kunpeng will not betray us. So, don't worry about it—let's just face the danger together!"
Hearing this, Chu Yunxi, Lu Kai, Sun Dawei, Hu Sanhan, Hals, and Vilo all nodded.
"Then it's settled. Let's hope for a turning point!"
"Don't worry," Chen Yi nodded again. "Having the Great Kunpeng is our stroke of luck!"
