Chapter 113: Acquiring the Ant’s New Power!
“Take him as our friend?”
Lu Kai and the others were stunned.
“No, boss, are you serious? This guy is a freak of nature. Whether he can really help us is still up in the air.”
“Exactly.”
The half-man, half-snake creature gave a cold laugh.
“I’m not even within the bounds of humanity. There’s no need for you to believe I can do anything for you. Just leave me to survive or die on my own.”
“Don’t go.”
Seeing him turn to leave, Chen Yi stepped forward and held out a hand.
“You may not be human, but you understand things more clearly than most people. And when it comes to zombies, you probably know more than we do, which makes you even more useful. Since fate has already made you into a mutant, then use this mutated body to help us.”
Seeing that Chen Yi did not despise him, the man was moved to tears.
“All right. If you’re willing to treat me as a partner, I can go with you. But before we leave, tell me this: why haven’t those apes mutated?”
Chen Yi was a meticulous man, and the man nodded slightly, a look of approval on his face.
“It seems you really are extraordinary. You even noticed that.”
Hearing this, Chen Yi understood. This forest was hiding secrets they had not yet uncovered.
The man then explained that the poisonous miasma here was a carefully arranged layer of defense set by Organization X, one that could completely block the influence of the zombies. That was precisely why those monkeys had only been devoured by the experimental subjects rather than dying at the hands of zombies.
“You mean...”
Chen Yi’s brow furrowed. Was there something even more terrifying on this island? Mutants created by failed experiments?
“Yes.”
The man’s gaze grew heavy.
“Because I’m a mutant too, they did not kill me. But I know that sooner or later, when he loses control, I’ll die as well. There’s no need to doubt that. I know it for certain.”
“Don’t worry. You’re with us now.”
Chen Yi gave him his word.
The man nodded again, then looked nervously at Chen Yi.
“You still shouldn’t provoke it. That thing is far worse off than I am. So many genes have been altered in its body that it now stands more than six meters tall and weighs several hundred kilos. If we really get close, it could easily crush us to death. That is Organization X’s greatest mistake.”
For this experiment, Organization X had already sacrificed the lives of hundreds of officers, so much so that to this day, they no longer dared return here.
Chen Yi did not care how many of Organization X’s people had died, but he did care about the innocent souls that had been destroyed.
“How many people died for this research? Tell me honestly. Do not hide a single thing.”
The man was silent for a long time. Then, guilt suddenly appeared on his face, and he knelt heavily before Chen Yi.
“I was useless. I couldn’t stop them. Altogether, fifteen thousand people took part in the experiments or died in them. They included the old, the weak, the sick, and the disabled, and more than half were adolescents.”
Those words made a deep and blazing killing intent rise in Chen Yi’s heart.
Young people were the ones with the greatest hope of finding a future in a world of zombies, yet they had been treated as experimental subjects. Organization X truly was depraved beyond all reason.
No. This organization had to be destroyed as soon as possible.
At that moment, a furious roar echoed from deep within the forest.
The half-man, half-snake creature, Hals, grew anxious as well.
“Hurry and leave. My friend must have sensed strangers and is about to attack you.”
“It’s fine.”
Chen Yi remained calm.
“Let him come. I want to see just how much power he can unleash.”
“You’re insane!”
The man raised his head again, panic flooding his face.
“My friend’s strength is not something you can just—”
“Shut up!”
Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan thumped their chests.
“With us here, even if your friend is the strongest of beasts, he still won’t be able to hurt our boss.”
With that, they continued forward beside Chen Yi.
Just then, a gigantic life form appeared before everyone, with the head of a bull, the body of a serpent, and bat wings.
The sight made Chu Yunxi and Chen Yaxi feel so sick they nearly vomited.
“What the hell is that? I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Hals hurried to explain.
“This is the power Organization X studied by transferring different genes. They moved a human’s internal organs into the bodies of these animals, fusing man and beast to create a new and formidable form. So what I’m seeing now is actually a fully successful shell with no mind of its own, only the ability to act. It merely inherited some human thoughts, which is why it can still control itself and not attack me.”
How horrifying.
Lu Kai and the others frowned again.
“If this keeps developing, it’ll do no one any good.”
“Who says otherwise?”
The man lifted his head and let out a troubled sigh.
“Unfortunately, this kind of thing is protected. It has the support of the city government, which is why the slaughter has continued unchecked.”
“What I know is that they’ve now gone to a small island in the north to carry out their next human massacre, using the remaining people there to train their power. Because of your current strength, Chen Yi, they already feel that their organization is no longer safe. So now they can only turn their targets on ordinary civilians.”
Damn bastards.
A nameless fire burst in Chen Yi’s chest, and his whole body trembled.
To dare do something like this—they truly no longer wanted to live.
“Sigh.”
The man looked up at the sky again, tears falling without warning.
“Everyone who used to undergo experiments with me is already dead. For me to still be alive is itself a miracle.”
“Why?”
Chu Yunxi was surprised.
“You survived, didn’t you?”
“But you don’t understand. When human and animal bodies are fused, the bacteria it produces are lethal. I’m afraid I only have three to five years left to live. So however much I can help you, I certainly will. I only hope you won’t despise me.”
Chen Yi took his hand. After sensing the toxins in his body, he tried using the ant gene’s detoxification system to absorb the power within him. Unexpectedly, by a strange twist of fate, he obtained the third mutation of the ant gene.
Seeing the red markings flash across Chen Yi’s arm, the man was startled.
“What power is that?”
Chen Yi shook his head.
“To be honest, I still don’t know. But now I understand something: some things need to be brought to a complete end.”
