Chapter One Hundred and Ten: Emergency Distress Call
As Chen Yi and the others fought frantically to defend themselves and tear apart the tide of corpses, everyone began to feel their nerves tightening.
This wave of corpses was clearly far more formidable than the ones before it, with terrifying speed and an almost unsettlingly fine-grained awareness of human movements.
Chu Yunxi’s Heaven’s Eye tried several times to probe for their weaknesses, but every attempt came to nothing.
Damn it. I’m not of much use anymore.
Chu Yunxi thought this in frustration, only to find Chen Yi reaching out and taking her hand.
“You’ve already done very well. Why press your heart down so hard? Relax. I’m here, and nothing will go wrong.”
Seeing Chen Yi comfort her like that, Chu Yunxi, who had just been feeling a little miserable, immediately broke into a radiant smile.
“All right. Since hubby says so, I’ll listen to you.”
“Of course you should listen to me.”
With that, Chen Yi once again directed Hu Sanhan and the others to join in.
Just then, with sharp eyes, he spotted a man struggling desperately in the seawater, hammering at the zombies with a shovel in frantic blows.
But the zombies were extremely fast, and they were about to swallow him whole.
“Quick, go save him!”
After Chen Yi shouted, Hu Sanhan swiftly used the power of the black hole and, the instant a zombie was about to bite the man, transferred him beside them in a flash.
Once the man reached Chen Yi and the others, he collapsed helplessly to the ground.
“My God, I almost died!”
Seeing that he seemed to have escaped with no injuries at all, everyone was a little taken aback.
“And you still lived through that? That’s a miracle.”
“Please!”
The man gasped for breath as he spoke.
“Don’t tease me. Just surviving was pure luck. Who knows how these damn things suddenly latched onto me? I finally made it out from near Sisybia, and then this happened. I have no idea what to do now.”
“Don’t panic.”
Chen Yi looked at him calmly.
“If you have something to say, just tell us. If it’s suitable, we can all think it through together.”
“Really?”
The man’s face lit up with joy. He explained that he was a Sisybian who had come to the nearby area to search for supplies.
Their people were now facing a catastrophe, and without food, they probably would not be able to last even a single day.
However, the ship only carried enough space for him alone, so he could only take the risk and come out by himself. Unluckily, the moment he set out, he ran into the zombies.
Clicking his tongue, Lu Kai could not help but sigh.
“That’s really rough.”
“Stop joking around.”
Chen Yi shot Lu Kai a glance, then asked, “How many companions do you still have over there?”
After a moment of silence, the Sisybian replied, “There were nearly ten thousand when I left. But how many of those ten thousand are still alive now, I don’t know. They don’t have many bullets left, and the weapons they use against zombies are running low too.”
“Good, I understand.”
Faced with this situation, Chen Yi quickly formed a plan.
“Since you came looking for supplies, then come with us. I’ll see whether I can take you along. If we can cooperate, we can help you. But if someone tries to steal what we have achieved, I will not be polite.”
“No, I promise you, we Sisybians would never do anything that vile.”
“Good. Then I’ll trust you once.”
With that, Chen Yi looked toward Chu Yunxi and the others.
Chu Yunxi nodded. “You decide. We’ll all listen to you.”
“That’s right, boss!”
Hu Sanhan laughed too.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to expand your network? Now’s the time.”
On this point, Chen Yi also agreed.
“Don’t worry, I know. But in a situation like this, we can’t make a rash decision.”
“But Boss, I know exactly what you’re thinking! Since they’ve come forward voluntarily to cooperate, we can’t treat this lightly. We should show absolute enthusiasm!”
“No need.”
Seeing Hu Sanhan’s urgency, Chen Yi only shook his head.
“You don’t need to be especially warm toward anyone when doing anything. You should know that warmth is often what gets trampled without mercy. We’ve all seen that more than once. Wasn’t what happened with Zheng Xiaoda enough to teach you?”
At the mention of Zheng Xiaoda, Hu Sanhan sighed.
“Ah, speaking of Zheng Xiaoda, he really was an idiot.”
“Enough.”
Chen Yi cut him off directly, then turned his gaze back to the man before him.
“You should know the exact location of Sisybia. I’m putting this whole matter in your hands.”
“Boss!”
Lu Kai was somewhat shocked at this.
“Isn’t it a bad idea to hand the helm over to an outsider?”
“I’m not taking you anywhere dangerous. What’s there to be afraid of?”
At that moment, the man also grew angry.
“If you have any objections to me, then we don’t have to cooperate.”
“Enough!”
Seeing everyone making a racket, Chen Yi’s expression turned cold as he spoke.
“It’s normal for us to have doubts. Why are you so anxious? Could it be that you really do have other motives?”
“I don’t!”
Realizing that all eyes had turned to him again, the man became flustered.
“I’m only unwilling to accept this.”
“Being unwilling changes nothing. You should know that at a time like this, you do not have the luxury of choice.”
Realizing he had already fallen under another man’s mercy, the man finally lowered his head. He knew this time he was the one asking for help, and he had no one to blame but himself.
At that moment, the zombie army attacked again. Amid their relentless surging advance, Chen Yi also noticed that a few of them seemed to be watching everything with sharp intelligence, as if taking notes.
It seemed that the number of intelligent zombies was increasing by the day.
With a cold laugh, Chen Yi quickly drew his twin blades and prepared to act.
But just then, as if receiving some kind of command, the zombies all began retreating one after another, which made him somewhat curious about what force had summoned them away.
Still, since they had temporarily chosen to withdraw from the fight, Chen Yi would not press the pursuit. In situations like this, preserving strength was the better course.
“You seem very concerned with the gains and losses of battle.”
The man suddenly spoke to Chen Yi, a trace of contempt in his eyes.
Chen Yi glanced at him indifferently.
“Don’t forget that you are human. You don’t have the ability to withstand zombie attacks, which is why you came seeking help. What exactly is your attitude supposed to mean now?”
“I don’t mean anything by it.”
The man lifted his chin again, but the bitter, resentful expression on his face was deeply wearisome to look at.
Chu Yunxi also tugged at Chen Yi’s sleeve.
“What’s the point of talking to someone like that? Let’s just ignore him. Come on, husband.”
“No need.”
Chen Yi spoke again.
“Since he’s so confident at a time like this, I’d like to hear whether he’s really as capable as he claims, whether he can suppress everything everyone else has. Let him take part in this battle against the zombies too.”
