Chen Yi did not understand the words at first, but then he saw the faint change in his own arm from the other man’s expression. At once he unleashed the ant gene’s deciphering force, and soon a foul-smelling toxin was forced out.

Chen Yi was startled.

“When did you poison me?”

The man shrugged helplessly and yawned.

“I never poisoned you. I merely stood beside you, that’s all. Chen Yi, don’t think so ill of people. If I really had some way to poison you like that, wouldn’t you have already crushed me to the ground? What you’re seeing now is only the beginning.”

“Cut the act. You definitely made a move just now!”

Chen Yi’s breathing grew ragged. Facing this fellow, he immediately stepped back to shield the friends around him. He did not want anyone else to suffer a severe injury because of this man.

“Boss, don’t worry about us!” Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan spoke at once. “We’ll be fine.”

Seeing Chen Yi protecting his teammates, the man who had just been smiling now wore an exceedingly complicated expression.

As a zombie, from the moment of his birth he had known that destroying humanity was his mission. Human habits and actions were nothing more than lessons to him.

Yet now, watching this so-called act of protection, he felt an unfamiliar irritation rising in him. What kind of feeling was this? Why could he not understand it at all?

After noticing the zombie’s reaction, Chen Yi immediately rushed forward with a blade in hand.

His speed was swift, but the zombie instantly shifted to higher ground. This speed was no longer comparable to that of ordinary low-level zombies; it was only the power a third-tier zombie could display.

Chen Yi’s brows tightened once more, fully aware of how dangerous this was.

At that moment, the Zombie King keenly sensed the shift in Chen Yi’s emotions. Slowly, he bared his claws and prepared to counterattack.

Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan quickly took up defensive positions. They could not stand by and watch their boss be ambushed by this vile zombie, so they immediately began to encircle the Zombie King from left and right.

Then the pale-faced zombie suddenly sprang upward, and, in a split second when no one was watching, struck at Chen Yi with his claws.

Chen Yi was calm and unhurried. His twin blades blocked the attack with ease. With a slight movement of his hand, the blades merged together, the edge instantly swelling in size and piercing through the zombie’s shoulder.

Yet the zombie gave no reaction at all.

Pain, fear, threat—such sensations seemed not to exist within this creature.

Chen Yi narrowed his eyes, finding this thing absurdly human-like, always adjusting its emotions to suit the situation.

The Zombie King was gambling as well.

Sensing that Chen Yi was likely probing his whereabouts, he immediately produced a flute and began to play.

As the sound spread, zombies of varying colors and abilities began to appear one after another around them.

The connection between these zombies and the Zombie King was extremely close. Chen Yi could clearly see that however the Zombie King moved, these zombies moved in the same way, utterly obedient.

From these actions, Chen Yi understood that high-level zombies possessed formidable control over the mind, and could not be dealt with by brute force alone.

“Defend. Keep your distance!”

Chen Yi ordered Lu Kai and the others, then immediately took the initiative to attack the Zombie King.

The Zombie King roared and revealed his savage face again before engaging Chen Yi once more.

On the island, the two fought back and forth. When blade met claw, sparks flew.

There was a glint of cunning in the Zombie King’s eyes.

“Chen Yi, this world is not yours alone to grow strong in. I am unlike those ordinary trash zombies; I become stronger when faced with strength. Meeting me today, you can only be said to have met your nemesis!”

Chen Yi’s gaze remained icy, showing no concern for his threat.

He swung his twin blades again, never once giving up his pressure on the Zombie King.

Just then, a burst of fireworks suddenly sounded over the sea.

It was a distress signal!

Chen Yi thought of Chu Yunxi, and his heart instantly tightened.

“Bad news, they must have run into trouble! Lu Kai, Hu Sanhan, retreat!”

“You think you can leave?”

The Zombie King once again sent his subordinates to surround the three of them, sneering.

“This place will be your grave today!”

“Move!”

Chen Yi spread his wings. On the massive silver feathers, eight black scythes instantly sliced the surrounding zombies into fragments.

The Zombie King was shaken. Turning to flee, he was met in the next instant by Chen Yi’s hundred consecutive kicks.

Under the hundredfold barrage, even with his extraordinary healing power, the Zombie King was left bloodied and full of wounds as he staggered back.

Gasping hard, he finally began to feel real fear.

“Chen Yi! You’ve been pretending all along!”

Earlier, Chen Yi had used only his ordinary form, and so the Zombie King had assumed he was merely a little stronger than the average human.

But now, seeing this monstrously mutated physique, he knew he had been wrong.

To take a hard line against this fellow was nothing less than smashing eggs against stone and courting death.

With a bitter laugh, a trace of despair flashed through the Zombie King’s eyes.

“Chen Yi, why don’t you kill me? If you have the power to destroy me, why drag it out for so long?”

Chen Yi rose into the air, looking down with disdain upon the horde beneath him.

“Because I wanted to see your true strength. Unfortunately, your evolution has only gone as far as selfishness, so you were doomed never to become true human beings!”

“No!”

The Zombie King roared and flung out his hand.

“I can do it. As long as I want it, I surely...”

With a single slash, Chen Yi severed the Zombie King’s head and passed through like a specter.

Only after seeing the Zombie King truly finished did Chen Yi speak coldly.

“Forgot to tell you: what I intend to do is make myself the greatest in the world. Do you really think I would hand what I want over to you?”

With that, Chen Yi turned his gaze to Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan.

“Clear out this side. I’ll be back in a moment!”

“Don’t worry, Boss!”

Hu Sanhan and Lu Kai once again increased the speed of their attacks.

“We’ve got this side between the two of us. Go back and save your wife. As long as she’s safe, we can rest easy!”

Chen Yi shot them a grateful look, then immediately flew back toward the warship.

By then, Chu Yunxi and the others were still locked in a brutal fight, while countless zombies continued scrambling up the ship from all around.

Though Da Kunpeng swept many of them away with his tail, another wave quickly surged up.

Seeing that Chen Yaxi’s strength was also beginning to fail, Zheng Xiaoda felt a trace of despair.

“Are we really going to die?”

At that critical instant, Chen Yi descended from the sky and crashed heavily onto the deck. The zombies pressing close to them suddenly halted, their momentum suppressed by his overwhelming presence.

Chen Yi’s eyes were cold.

“Get out of the way!”
