Chapter One Hundred: Organization X Emerges in the Open!
Chapter One
Chen Yaxi immediately did as Chen Yi said, darting swiftly among the zombies and striking with telekinetic force.
But these zombies could recover almost instantly as long as even a single part of them remained intact, and that indeed plunged everyone into a bitter struggle.
Once Chen Yi realized this, he swiftly returned his twin blades to a single long-sword form and began slashing with ferocious speed.
Fragments flew everywhere. Chen Yi’s blade split them apart again and again, cutting them down repeatedly until every last shred had vanished at last, and only then did he stop.
After the zombie man noticed Chen Yi’s rapid assault, he finally sensed that something was terribly wrong: their so-called invincible state had been broken.
“Go! Retreat now!”
But by then, Chen Yi and Lu Kai had already sealed off every route of escape, grinding them down in a merciless slaughter. Half an hour later, every zombie aboard the warship had been destroyed, but Chen Yi’s side had also suffered grievous losses.
Because they had failed to notice the emergence of the intelligent zombies earlier, most of the people had been infected. Aside from Chen Yi, Zheng Xiaoda, Sun Dawei, Lu Kai, Hu Sanhan, Chu Yunxi, and Chen Yaxi, everyone else had been wiped out.
Chen Yi frowned deeply, his fists clenching.
“Damn it. I never thought I’d slip at such a critical moment and let the zombies seize our stronghold.”
“Boss, you can’t blame yourself for this,” Lu Kai said with a helpless sigh. “Who could have possibly expected something like this?”
“No, it really is my fault.”
Chen Yi frowned again, his emotions complicated.
“If I had been more careful...”
“Don’t be foolish,” Chu Yunxi said, shaking her head at him.
“Even if you had thought of everything, you still couldn’t have truly prevented it. Their erosion was destined from the very beginning.”
Hearing this, Chen Yi fell into thought.
Could there be something else at play?
At that moment, Chu Yunxi pointed at the fragments on the ground, fragments that could no longer heal, and said, “They enter the body through the tiniest wound anywhere on a person and then transform that person. So as long as we have even the slightest injury on our hands or anywhere else, we could become zombies. The reason we didn’t is because we were purified by the Calamity Curse Plate, which is why we ended up in this situation today.”
Just then, there seemed to be movement in the sea.
Chen Yi quickly placed himself in front of Chu Yunxi and the others.
As a cluster of bubbles churned and rolled, everyone’s hearts rose to their throats.
Had they just dealt with one threat, only for something else to emerge from the zombies now?
With a splash, the little giant penguin leapt out.
Seeing the little fellow arrive, everyone let out a breath of relief.
Chen Yaxi happily ran over and patted the little giant penguin on the head.
“So it was you, Little Giant Penguin. How did you...”
Before she could finish, Chen Yaxi’s eyes widened to the size of saucers, because the little giant penguin was covered in blood, and its eyes were full of grievance.
Seeing it crying out in anguish, Chen Yi immediately examined it, intending to heal its wounds. But he discovered that the little giant penguin was not injured at all, while the great giant penguin seemed somewhat weak.
Looking more closely, he saw streaks of crimson suddenly spreading across the sea’s surface. Could zombies be attacking it from beneath the water?
To verify this, Chen Yi quickly found a diving suit aboard the warship, changed into it, and went into the water himself.
He saw that the great giant penguin’s lower abdomen had been brutally assaulted by numerous zombies and sustained severe damage. Chen Yi immediately unleashed his twin blades and fought the zombies in the water, while also channeling healing power through the two stripes of the ant gene he had obtained.
As that power seeped into the giant penguin’s body, vitality returned to it. After a thunderous roar, its eyes widened sharply.
The zombies surrounding them had not yet reacted when the great giant penguin swept them away with a single lash of its tail, followed at once by a sonic assault.
Curiously, Chen Yi beneath the giant penguin’s wings felt no ringing in his ears, yet the zombies were suffering terribly.
Even though they had lost human pain perception, they were still struck by the immense, piercing agony of their eardrums being torn through.
Gradually, the zombies that had been pressing in on Chen Yi one by one sank into the darkness.
“Thank you.”
Just as Chen Yi was preparing to head back up, a deep, powerful voice reached him.
It was the great giant penguin speaking. Its head gave a slight nod.
“Human, you truly are kind. Since you helped me and my son, I must tell you a secret.”
Chen Yi nodded and patiently remained beside the great giant penguin, listening to its words...
According to the great giant penguin, once the zombie crisis progressed to the third stage, some unidentified people would inject drugs into living humans and cast them into the zombie hordes.
After they were thrown in, those behind the plan would personally observe the data and make tactical adjustments.
If they discovered that human abilities had evolved beyond the data values, they would begin dissecting living people and use them as bait to draw out the Zombie King.
For now, this was all the great giant penguin had managed to learn by listening to the electromagnetic waves around it, and it could only express regret.
Chen Yi patted the great giant penguin’s body, then returned to the ship and told the others what had happened.
“Human experimentation?” Chu Yunxi’s expression instantly turned grave.
“That strange group of people is relentlessly pursuing this, just to harm others?”
“They want to buy themselves a chance to survive, but at the expense of ordinary people,” Chen Yi said with a cold laugh.
“I never imagined that beyond the zombie crisis, I would also have to face human schemes. Now it seems that humans are actually far more terrifying than zombies.”
“Who can argue with that?” Lu Kai shuddered as he recalled his past experiences.
If he had not met Chen Yi and followed him, he probably would never have lived such a life...
“All hands, be on guard!”
At that moment, Chen Yi sensed movement beneath the sea. In particular, the great giant penguin had already begun wrapping its massive body around them, a sign that danger was approaching.
Hu Sanhan, Sun Dawei, Lu Kai, and Zheng Xiaoda took up defensive positions from different directions, waiting for the enemy to strike.
However, what appeared before them was not zombies or anything else, but a warship just like theirs.
The only difference was that this one could also dive.
The man standing on the deck wore a black suit, his eyes cold and sharp.
“From this moment on, all of you here will be taken over by us! The X Organization does not want to slaughter you. We hope everyone will cooperate and refrain from any useless resistance!”
“Bullshit!” Lu Kai and Hu Sanhan sneered at once.
“If we don’t resist, we become your living targets. Do you think we’re idiots?”
At that moment, the man on the warship narrowed his eyes in calculation.
“If that is the attitude you insist on taking, then don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”
