Chapter 49 Entanglement Turns Toxic

Perhaps she was born to a life of toil. Before the sunlight could pierce through the clouds, Gu Xinyao had already awakened. The moment she opened her eyes, she was momentarily disoriented, faintly mistaking this place for Du Yi’s apartment—the place where she had lived for over a year, weathering storms and hardships, and also tasting sweetness.
In that fleeting moment of confusion, the fullness of his embrace brought her back to reality. He held her tightly, his long legs locking her between his own. The sensation of his skin touching certain parts of her body sent waves of warmth flushing her cheeks. This wasn’t the prim and proper Yi she knew; even his sleeping posture was so orderly, as if noble etiquette dictated how one should sleep. That rigid posture had vanished completely after he was injected with the Huyu Sleep drug, replaced by an almost childish yet intimate closeness.
His arms circled her waist, while hers wrapped around his shoulders. This protective posture, though unconscious, felt utterly natural.
She even thought this was quite nice. Gently, she pressed a kiss to his closed eyelids, which stirred him uneasily. His hands tightened their grip, and his waist pressed closer to her. Because there was still some barrier between them, full contact was impossible. Perhaps she pressed too hard, for he let out a low breath but did not wake.
Gu Xinyao found his adorable state amusing; he could sleep so soundly even like this. She tried quietly to move his hands from her waist, but he kept shifting, causing a ticklish sensation on her chest that would be unbearable even for a deity.
She had no choice but to cup his face and kiss his lips, hoping it would wake him—anything was better than repeating such intimacy so early in the morning.
They were on the run, not on vacation.
The kiss deepened his breath, and his hands slowly relaxed, but the contact between them grew more active.
Gu Xinyao had only intended to tease lightly, but the one being ambushed refused to part lips. Lips barely touching were no longer enough; a small tongue slipped into her mouth, insisting on a shared morning dance.
The more passionate the kiss, the more his body writhed. His legs, which had been clasping hers, now consciously rubbed the outside of her thighs.
Feeling the heat rising within, Gu Xinyao seized a moment of clarity to place her hand firmly on his intimate area, which was already beginning to swell.
His eyes fluttered open, clear yet dazed. When he realized what she was doing, he froze, but the stirring beneath did not relent.
“Mm… uh… I…” Gu Xinyao sensed his hesitation and opened her eyes. He had already pulled back his lips.
“Yi, is this uncomfortable?” Her fingers moved gently, hoping to offer comfort beyond intimacy.
“Hm…” he hummed, quickly suppressing the breath at his lips. “What’s… what’s wrong with me?” His breathing was clearly uneven, yet he forced himself to think calmly, resulting in a stiff demeanor. His brows furrowed, and the flush on his face paired with such a serious expression looked utterly mismatched.
Seeing this, Gu Xinyao was somewhat baffled. This version of Yi was clearly lucid; even though his body teetered on the edge of control, he maintained composure. Should she say his willpower was extraordinary, or that he was somewhat possessed?
Her hand moved again, pressing down on his leg as she straddled him. At the moment his expression stiffened, she slowly drew him closer.
Leaning close, she whispered in his ear, “Be good. Once we finish the real matter, I’ll explain everything.” Perhaps his sudden recovery was abrupt, but the arrow was already on the string—if she didn’t shoot, it would be fatal.
“Uh... hm…” The sudden tightness made his body arch upward. Then, as if a flash of white light passed before his eyes, he plunged into a world of passionate bliss, unable to return to reality.
Thus, in the faint morning light, while everyone else was already awake and starting breakfast, Gu Xinyao and Du Yi, the married couple, had yet to emerge.
Gu Xinyao’s so-called real matter lasted about two or three hours, finally ending when Du Yi’s body became too limp to continue.
Lying atop Du Yi, Gu Xinyao recounted the entire sequence of events. His expression, still flushed from their passion, was one of shock, then bitterness, then stiff resolve. He did not understand why he had to endure all this.
Though she lay on him, Gu Xinyao did not press her full weight. Half her body still touched the bed, her legs resting on his, fingers gently caressing the small, deep red areola, while the man lost in thought felt nothing.
“Yi, we still have to leave. Once we reach a safe place, we’ll find a cure to counter the Huyu Sleep drug. Since someone made the poison, surely someone can make the antidote.” Looking at his smooth chest, she felt an urge to bite him again, though she didn’t understand why. Seeing his body always stirred a desire to dominate. After a night of endless intimacy, this feeling grew even stronger.

Du Yi lay flat on the bed, staring straight at the ceiling. Though he heard her words, his mind was elsewhere.
Seeing him completely ignoring her, Gu Xinyao felt a surge of anger. She withdrew her fingers, pressed them against his chest, and suddenly took his small nipple into her mouth, sucking and biting with almost ferocious intensity.
Du Yi, unaccustomed to such rough treatment, finally snapped back to awareness. His body twitched from the stimulation on his chest. He tried to push her away, but the more he resisted, the more forceful she became. Resigned, he flattened himself and gritted his teeth, allowing her to unleash her torment.
The taste of blood in her mouth sent chaotic thoughts swirling through Gu Xinyao’s mind, making her head dizzy and filled with a metallic tang. She finally restrained herself from biting again, opening her eyes to find herself bowed over his pale chest, her mouth still enclosing his soft nipple.
Startled, she released her bite and looked up. He had his eyes closed, white teeth biting his lower lip hard enough to draw blood, yet he made no sound.
Him? What had come over her? She shook her head forcefully, trying to clear uncontrolled thoughts that had flashed through her mind—what were they? A voice deep inside urged her: “You must hold on, or it will be gone.” And her way of holding on was through violence toward him?
She slid off his body. The once rosy nipple was now swollen and bloodied, droplets rolling down.
“Yi, I’m sorry! I don’t know what came over me just now. I’m so sorry!” Flustered, she tried to staunch the bleeding while apologizing to her husband.
Du Yi kept his eyes closed, tears slipping from the corners. The blood on his chest flowed like a blind spring.
Unsure what to do, Gu Xinyao resorted to the most instinctive remedy—she gently licked the bleeding wound.
Perhaps the crude method worked, for as she felt his body trembling beneath her hand, the metallic taste vanished.
She released the nipple; the bleeding ceased.
Determined not to repeat her mistake, Gu Xinyao quickly got up. She didn’t bother dressing herself first but instead fetched clothing sent by Qin Rou for Du Yi.
Soft white silk underwear, a matching racerback vest, a white shirt, and casual trousers—Qin Rou was thoughtful and well-versed in what suited a man’s wardrobe.
Because they had been entwined for so long, Du Yi’s body was still sticky. Feeling guilty for her earlier misstep, Gu Xinyao patiently used warm, damp cloths to clean him before dressing him.
Du Yi, obedient through it all, neither spoke nor made a sound. Gu Xinyao silently tended to him, not caring about her own lack of clothing. Thinking her morning roughness may have hurt his feelings, she covered him with a thin blanket after dressing him, then wiped herself down and dressed.
Finished, she sat at the foot of the bed, unsure what to say.
Silence filled the room, broken only by Du Yi’s restrained breathing and Gu Xinyao’s soft sighs.
Knock, knock—
A knock came from outside. Gu Xinyao glanced up, frowning. She didn’t want to be disturbed now.
“Gu Xinyao, Du Yi, get up for breakfast!” The impatient voice outside knocked twice more, then called out—clearly Ah Fei.
Not wanting to attract attention, Gu Xinyao looked at Du Yi, whose eyes were closed as if enduring something, then reluctantly got up to open the door.
Ah Fei stood impatiently at the door. Seeing Gu Xinyao fully dressed, he was momentarily taken aback; he had expected a more scandalous scene but found nothing. He peeked inside; it was quiet.

“Hey! Gu Xinyao, aren’t you hungry? Even Qin Rou is here, but there’s no sign of you two.” Ah Fei sounded disappointed but had to fulfill his task from Shang Ran and the others to call them.
Gu Xinyao’s expression was far from pleasant. The soft warmth of the morning had taken an unexpected turn because of her malfunction. She truly didn’t know how to make amends.
After a moment’s thought, she said to Ah Fei, “Big Brother Ah Fei, you go ahead and eat first. I’ll be there soon. Yi… Yi is still feeling unwell. I want to wait until he feels better.”
She thought perhaps some solitude would help him more—her presence might make him uncomfortable—so she told Ah Fei this.
Ah Fei studied Gu Xinyao for a moment. Men’s hearts were unfathomable, but women were just as complex. How could a man ever understand?
“Alright! Hurry up then. Qin Rou will send you away from here soon.” Ah Fei nodded. He wasn’t an emotional expert and couldn’t untangle this mess.
“Thank you, Big Brother Ah Fei.” Gu Xinyao forced a smile of thanks.
Ah Fei saw that she was far from happy. He didn’t pry, waved his hand, and turned to leave.
Gu Xinyao closed the door and returned to the room.
Inside, the faint lingering scent of their earlier passion still hung.
Du Yi lay motionless on the bed, the thin blanket somehow shifted aside.
“Yi, I know I was wrong. If you feel unhappy being with me, just say so.” She didn’t understand how things had come to this. They had been fine.
Du Yi remained silent, lying still, but his hand clenched tightly by his side.
Watching his pale face, Gu Xinyao felt overwhelming sorrow. Perhaps this was the limit of happiness in her life.
“Big Brother Ah Fei just called us to eat. I guess you don’t want to see me. I’ll leave now. You should eat something. I’ll have them bring it to your room. As for leaving Connorliang, you can’t hesitate anymore. I will have Sister Qin and Shang Ran find a safe place and escort you.”
Gu Xinyao stood, looking down at his handsome face. Reluctant but resolute, she knew she had to let go.
He said nothing, tears streaming from his eyes.
She reached out to touch his face but hesitated. After a long moment, she turned away.
“Wait!” Just as she placed her hand on the door handle and began to open it, she heard his panicked voice from the bed behind her.
Her body stiffened but she slowly turned back.
Author’s note: Ahem, this chapter unexpectedly continues the unresolved scene from the last chapter’s ending. Even I didn’t anticipate this, but I hope dear readers will enjoy it nonetheless. o(n_n)o~
