After arranging Liu Yifei’s enrollment, Chen Siyuan hurriedly drove Liu Xiaoli to the New York Dance Company.

Seated in Chen Siyuan’s car, Liu Xiaoli glanced curiously at the driver.

“Siyuan, why does that little boy call you ‘master’?”

Will was carefully selected by Chen Siyuan to serve as both a reading companion and protector for Liu Yifei.

He was fluent in both Chinese and English.

Their earlier conversation had been entirely in Chinese.

“That’s because he wants to become a lawyer like me—someone who stands for justice! The kid even formed a Justice League at school, so he definitely won’t let Xixi get bullied there.”

Chen Siyuan knew Will well; otherwise, he wouldn’t have entrusted him with Liu Yifei’s care.

Though Liu Yifei wasn’t Chen Siyuan’s biological daughter, he already treated her like his own little sweetheart.

She must be protected at all costs!

Liu Xiaoli felt an inexplicable warmth in her heart. This man was so meticulous—perhaps even a biological father couldn’t do as much.

“Thank you.”

Chen Siyuan glanced at Liu Xiaoli with a slight smile. “What’s this? Already moved by me?”

“No, it’s just the wind playing tricks on my eyes,” Liu Xiaoli replied stubbornly, turning her head away.

Chen Siyuan laughed at the tightly sealed car windows.

Well, this stubborn Liu Xiaoli was quite endearing after all.

Soon, the car pulled into the parking lot of the New York Dance Company.

But as Chen Siyuan and Liu Xiaoli stepped inside, they immediately heard the sound of an argument.

At this point, Liu Xiaoli’s English listening skills were still poor. Even normal conversations were challenging, let alone heated disputes filled with slang.

“What’s going on?”

Liu Xiaoli frowned. A woman’s intuition told her this matter might involve her.

“It’s nothing. Some people are just unhappy that you became the company’s principal dancer right after arriving,” Chen Siyuan said casually.

“Siyuan, I could have started as a soloist,” Liu Xiaoli pulled him back.

She had heard clearly yesterday that the company director initially promised her a soloist position.

It was only because Chen Siyuan was dissatisfied that he pushed for the title of principal dancer.

Chen Siyuan gently patted Liu Xiaoli’s hand and smiled. “Sister Li, humility doesn’t work the same way here as it does in our homeland.”

With that, he took Liu Xiaoli’s hand and pushed open the door.

Inside, besides Director Mark, a number of dancers in practice attire had gathered.

The sound of the door opening caught everyone’s attention, and the argument ceased.

“Oh, my dear Chen, and Xiaoli Liu, welcome to the New York Dance Company,” Director Mark greeted warmly, giving Chen Siyuan a hearty hug.

“Director Mark, it looks like you have some trouble here. Do you need my help?” Chen Siyuan smiled, though some present felt a chill.

Mark smiled faintly. “Dear Chen, let me introduce you. This is Beverly, an exceptional dancer who was supposed to be promoted to principal dancer this time…”

She was a tall, slender woman, so thin Chen Siyuan thought she might be uncomfortable to hold.

But for a dancer, such a physique was ideal—light enough for spinning and jumping without burden.

Liu Xiaoli caught a few words but understood enough to realize she had taken Beverly’s spot as principal dancer, which was the cause of the dispute.

“Ms. Beverly, nice to meet you! I’m Jack, a lawyer!” Chen Siyuan cheerfully extended his hand.

Beverly’s face was guarded, but she still shook his hand lightly.

“Beverly, oh damn, I almost forgot—your boyfriend’s case is being handled by Jack Chen,” Mark said with an overly theatrical expression.

Surprise flashed across Beverly’s face.

“Jack, Beverly’s boyfriend is Joe Gibson, a singer,” Mark added with a raised brow.

“Oh, the singer summoned for marijuana use? His trial is in three days. As a public figure, Joe Gibson might face ninety days’ detention,” Chen Siyuan smiled wryly. What a coincidence.

Beverly’s expression darkened. Her boyfriend’s career was on the rise; ninety days in detention would be disastrous.

She wanted to be tough but chose to prioritize his future over hers.

“Mr. Chen, please help Joe. He’s at a crucial stage and cannot be detained,” Beverly pleaded, hands clasped.

“Beverly, Xiaoli Liu is Jack’s wife and the new principal dancer of our company,” Mark said with an unwavering smile, stating a simple fact.

Beverly gritted her teeth. “Director Mark, I have no objections to the company’s appointment. I will cooperate with Xiaoli Liu.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” Mark nodded and turned to Chen Siyuan. “Jack, you’re resourceful, right?”

Chen Siyuan snapped his fingers. “Of course. This is my specialty.”

“Thank you, Mr. Chen, thank you!” Beverly was deeply grateful.

She suddenly recalled her boyfriend mentioning this Jack Chen—a lawyer who could do anything.

He was the only one who could save her boyfriend from imprisonment.

Chen Siyuan could see that Beverly no longer posed a threat to Liu Xiaoli.

“Ms. Beverly, ensuring justice is my duty. I will make sure Joe Gibson receives a fair trial.”

“Thank you! Thank you!”

With Beverly resigned, the quarrel over the principal dancer position naturally ended.

Rather than harbor resentment towards Liu Xiaoli, Beverly now went out of her way to curry favor.

Some might consider Chen Siyuan’s actions underhanded, but in Liu Xiaoli’s heart, she felt only gratitude.

He had made Chen Siyuan into a "wily man" on her behalf.

While Beverly showed Liu Xiaoli around the company, Chen Siyuan sipped coffee in Director Mark’s office.

“Jack, how do you plan to handle this? Joe Gibson’s case sounds complicated,” Mark asked curiously.

“California recently passed the Compassionate Use Act, allowing medical marijuana with a doctor’s recommendation. Joe’s case can be managed accordingly. They don’t want too much trouble. Minimizing the issue within legal bounds is the best approach,” Chen Siyuan explained fluently, as if carrying the federal statutes in his mind.

Mark gave him a thumbs-up. This man truly knew federal law inside and out.

Better not to cross him!
