Qi Yu turned around and saw three disciples of the Sword Sect walking toward him.
The one leading them was dressed in brocade and possessed an extraordinary bearing.
Su Ze’an, the direct grandson of the Second Elder and the foremost genius among the Heavenly Dipper Sword Sect’s outer disciples.
Qi Yu’s brows drew together as he said, “My father was not a coward!”
“He was!”
Su Ze’an’s words were flippant. The two men accompanying him wore disdainful expressions and laughed without the slightest attempt to conceal their contempt.
Toying with the jade pendant in his hand, Su Ze’an stepped forward and said mockingly, “Qi Yu, you’ve been in the sect for three years, yet you’re still a worthless cripple without the slightest cultivation. How do you still have the face to remain here?”
Qi Yu cast him a cold glance, then looked away and gently touched the gravestone before the solitary grave.
“Starting tomorrow, I’ll leave the Sword Sect and go alone into the depths of the rear mountain. Whether I live or die will be up to fate.”
This was what he had promised Chen Qingming. So that Liu Rouxue would not carry any psychological burden on her path of cultivation, the sect would announce that he had accidentally fallen from a cliff and died without leaving even a soul behind.
The Second Elder had overheard these words. He intended to groom Su Ze’an into the Sword Sect’s Sacred Son, and Su Ze’an had long coveted Liu Rouxue. Thus, the Second Elder had told him:
“If you cut the grass, do not leave the roots behind. Since he wants to fake his death, why not let him truly die?”
Su Ze’an walked up to the gravestone. His expression was arrogant, and the corners of his lips curled upward.
“Your father was a coward, while you’re a worthless cripple. Heh, you really are father and son.”
Qi Yu bit his lips until they turned pale.
“My father was not a coward!”
“Heh. Who in the Eastern Divine Continent doesn’t know that your father, Qi Zhenming, was a coward and a disgrace?”
“He wasn’t—”
Before Qi Yu could finish, Su Ze’an struck without warning, slamming his palm into Qi Yu’s chest. Qi Yu’s vision went black, and his body toppled backward onto the ground.
Blood spilled from the corner of his mouth. Su Ze’an was at the ninth level of the Initial Profound Realm, just one step away from entering the Profound Realm. That single palm had nearly cost Qi Yu half his life.
“Su Ze’an, what are you trying to do?”
Su Ze’an continued to toy with the jade pendant. “I’m sending you to meet your cowardly father beneath the earth. Shouldn’t you thank me?”
The two Sword Sect disciples behind him grinned maliciously and stepped forward to haul Qi Yu up from the ground.
Qi Yu said in a low voice, “You want to kill me? Aren’t you afraid the sect will hold you accountable?”
Su Ze’an snorted and struck the gravestone with one palm, shattering it.
“Su Ze’an!”
Qi Yu clenched his teeth so tightly that blood seeped from the corners of his mouth. Hatred surged through his entire body.
“Hold me accountable? Do you really think the sect will hold a genius accountable for the sake of a worthless cripple?”
Su Ze’an’s expression turned sinister, then gradually became frenzied. The jade pendant in his palm shattered beneath his grip.
“What makes you worthy? You’re a worthless cripple, yet you’ve been allowed to remain in the Sword Sect for three years. What makes you worthy of the Sacred Maiden’s special favor? And what makes your cowardly dead father worthy of retaining his seat as a Sword Sect elder?”
Although Qi Zhenming was reviled as a coward, the sect had still preserved his position as an elder. That was precisely why Qi Yu had been able to remain in the sect for three years.
Yet Su Ze’an’s father had coveted that position for a long time.
Su Ze’an struck Qi Yu in the chest again. A crisp crack came from his palm as Qi Yu’s ribs broke, and he spat out a great mouthful of blood.
“Qi Yu, I want your life—and I want the Sacred Maiden too!”

The corners of Su Ze’an’s lips lifted. Spiritual energy surged through his palm, and he suddenly brought it down upon Qi Yu’s forehead.
“Pff!”
Qi Yu’s entire body flew backward like a kite with its string cut and crashed to the ground.
Su Ze’an shook the blood from his palm and said casually, “Go see whether he’s dead.”
Qi Yu lay on his back, when suddenly he felt a thread of cool energy flow from within his chest.
“Am I… dead?”
Qi Yu opened his eyes and saw, hovering before him, a gigantic sword wrapped in purple-black flames.
“That sword again!”
This was not the first time Qi Yu had seen it. When he had been bullied by the son of a wealthy family as a child, the sword had appeared before him once before.
Back then, the wealthy boy’s lackeys had beaten him half to death. It seemed that this sword only appeared when he was on the brink of death.
However, just as young Qi Yu had reached out to touch the giant sword, his father had suddenly appeared, driven off the wealthy youth, and seized the hand Qi Yu had extended toward the blade.
Little Qi Yu told his father about the giant sword. His father had not seemed particularly surprised. Instead, he had told him:
“This sword has always been within your heart.”
Over the years, Qi Yu had nearly forgotten the incident. His breathing was growing weaker and weaker. If this continued, he would die.
Almost by instinct, Qi Yu raised one arm toward the giant sword.
“Vmmm!”
The massive sword trembled, as though trying to tempt him.
Quick. Take hold of it.
At last, Qi Yu’s palm closed around the hilt.
Purple flames instantly enveloped his entire arm.
A violent aura surged into his body, rampaging through his meridians. At the same time, the wounds covering his body began to heal at astonishing speed.
“Vmmm! Vmmm!”
“The Demon Sword awakens!”
The giant sword trembled again and again. A low murmur echoed through Qi Yu’s mind, and with it, his consciousness was drawn into a vast and strange space.
Before him stretched a landscape of corpses and blood. There were not only humans, but demons as well. The sky was gloomy, and rivers of blood flowed across the earth. Everywhere he looked resembled a living hell.
At the center of that strange space stood a giant sword identical to the one in his hand. Yet this sword was a hundred meters tall, and countless broken blades lay scattered around it.
A Sword Domain!
The scene was terrifying, but strangely, Qi Yu felt no resistance. Instead, his blood boiled throughout his body, and his spirit surged with excitement.
“Well, you’re not quite dead yet!”
At that moment, the two Sword Sect disciples approached.
To their astonishment, Qi Yu’s long hair had come loose and streamed around him as he lowered his head and staggered to his feet.
“What’s going on?”
One of the disciples had only just spoken when, in the next instant, his head was sent flying high into the air. In a flash, his head and body were separated.
Blood gushed from the headless corpse as it slowly sank to its knees.
The other disciple froze. Then, like a machine, he turned his head toward Qi Yu.

“Heh heh heh heh… hahahahaha!”
Qi Yu kept his head lowered as a mad laugh escaped his lips. His long hair danced wildly in the wind, his eyes were blood-red, and his entire body was drenched in blood.
At some point, a giant sword wreathed in black-violet flames had appeared in his hand.
“A monster… You’re a monster!”
Qi Yu’s blood and vital energy surged violently. The savage energy emanating from the giant sword devoured his reason, while a surging aura of slaughter spread from his body and swept in every direction.
“You say I’m a monster? No. I’m a demon!”
Qi Yu extended one finger and touched the disciple between the brows. Tangible killing intent poured madly into the man’s mind.
“Ah! No, don’t!”
The disciple shrieked in terror. His mind went blank, and he collapsed to his knees. Two streams of bloody tears ran from his eyes. A moment later, his breath ceased.
“Heh heh heh.”
Su Ze’an, watching from a short distance away, felt a fear in the depths of his heart—as though he had encountered his natural enemy.
“Qi Yu… You… You worthless cripple, what’s happened to you?”
Su Ze’an swallowed hard, his words stumbling over one another. Yet the intense arrogance in his heart, born of a life of privilege, kept this pampered young master from retreating.
Qi Yu was a worthless cripple, someone who could be controlled at will. That had always been Su Ze’an’s understanding of him.
Su Ze’an gritted his teeth and decided to strike first. Spiritual energy gathered in his palm.
“Go to hell!”
His body transformed into a blur as he charged forward and brought his palm down upon Qi Yu’s head.
He had used all his strength in that blow, confident that he could crush Qi Yu, the worthless cripple, to death.
Su Ze’an’s palm struck the crown of Qi Yu’s head. A crisp crack of breaking bone rang out, followed immediately by a scream.
It was as though he had struck solid rock. The flesh of Su Ze’an’s entire palm split open, and blood sprayed in all directions.
“Ah! How is this possible?”
Su Ze’an’s face twisted in pain, and his eyes widened in disbelief.
He abruptly turned toward Qi Yu. Qi Yu held the giant sword in one hand and advanced at an unhurried pace, yet Su Ze’an felt an oppressive force slowly tightening around his throat.
Su Ze’an wanted to flee, but when he turned, he stumbled and fell. His legs weakened involuntarily, and his entire body trembled.
“Weren’t you after my life?”
Qi Yu’s eerie voice came from behind him.
“Don’t… Don’t come any closer!”
Lying on the ground, Su Ze’an finally noticed that the savage aura of slaughter surrounding Qi Yu originated from the giant sword in his hand.
“This is… a spirit weapon!”
Su Ze’an’s pupils trembled violently. Such an overbearing aura meant that the weapon was at least of the Profound Grade.
“How can a worthless cripple like you possess a Profound-Grade spirit weapon?”
