In the bathhouse, Hua Gu and his crew were all seasoned tough guys, no strangers to fighting and violence. If it hadn’t been for the ghost’s prior warning to Qiu Gang’ao, and they had caught him off guard, he’d probably be lying down by now.

Even though his skills far exceeded theirs, trying to take down these old foxes barehanded was no easy feat.

Hua Gu had already noticed Song Ren approaching and his face darkened. “Where’s Alang?”

Song Ren replied, “He’s lying outside.”

Hua Gu spat blood onto the floor, twisting his face in displeasure. “You’re going to help this cop?”

Song Ren said, “I can try.”

Suddenly, Hua Gu smiled coldly. “You’re new here. Do you know how many people in this Stanley Prison were brought in by them?”

His gaze turned icy as he spoke deliberately, “Helping him means going against the entire prison.”

“Hey, are you looking for death?” Hua Gu sneered.

Song Ren was silent for a moment, then slowly looked up and smiled earnestly, enunciating clearly, “I’m begging for it.”

Hua Gu shuddered under that calm gaze but quickly snapped back, cursing angrily, “Fine! I’ll grant your wish!”

He charged at Song Ren with large strides, slipping his hand into the towel around his waist. As he got close, he suddenly pulled out a sharpened screwdriver from the towel.

Without mercy, he stabbed fiercely toward Song Ren’s abdomen.

Song Ren stepped back half a pace to dodge, then grabbed the back of Hua Gu’s head as he lunged, pulling him in close while raising his right knee sharply.

Bang!

The knee struck Hua Gu’s nose at close range.

Blood sprayed instantly, streaming down Hua Gu’s face, mixing with tears and snot.

He staggered back, raising a hand weakly to shield his cheek. Just as he was about to scream in pain, a swift hand chop struck his throat.

His breath caught, and he collapsed to his knees, dry heaving repeatedly.

The sharp screwdriver fell from his grasp, limp and useless.

Song Ren calmly picked it up from the floor.

Noticing this from the corner of his eye, Hua Gu reached out to snatch it back, hoarsely demanding, “Give it back—cough—give it back!”

Song Ren flipped the screwdriver lightly. As Hua Gu’s hand reached halfway, Song Ren reversed his grip on the handle and drove it hard into the palm of Hua Gu’s outstretched hand.

Crimson blood dripped down the screwdriver.

After a brief silence, nearly everyone watching instinctively stepped back, staring at Song Ren like he was a monster, their eyes filled with uncontrollable fear.

Song Ren said, “There. It’s back. Hold onto it.”

As Hua Gu writhed in pain, trying to scream, Song Ren swung a kick, smashing his head violently against the wall. Hua Gu immediately lost consciousness.

The other prisoners, including Hua Gu’s gang, were stunned.

From the moment Song Ren struck to the end, it was all so swift and ruthless.

Even these men, used to bloodshed, found the scene chilling.

Once Hua Gu’s brothers recovered, they barely hesitated before shouting and charging at Song Ren all at once.

What followed was a display between Song Ren and Qiu Gang’ao.

With the fiercest, slickest Hua Gu out of the picture and Song Ren’s help, the remaining misfits were all subdued within a minute.

It was only then that the on-duty prison guards noticed the disturbance in the bathhouse.

The alarm bell began ringing incessantly.

A squad of guards burst in, batons and riot shields at the ready. The leader had already drawn and cocked his pistol.

“Everyone, get against the wall, squat down, hands on your heads!”

“Everyone, get against the wall, squat down, hands on your heads!”

“Everyone, get against the wall, squat down, hands on your heads!”

Commands rang out sternly, mingled with a few low moans, echoing through the bathhouse.

Song Ren and Qiu Gang’ao crouched down with their hands over their heads.

Qiu Gang’ao grinned despite his bleeding mouth. “Ren, thanks.”

Song Ren said, “No problem. Those guys provoked me first.”

In truth, Song Ren had struck so fiercely because he realized something.

Holding back against Fei Gou and his gang had made him seem weak, attracting unwanted attention.

Showing fear or hesitation in Stanley Prison was never a good thing.

Since he was undercover anyway, if things went wrong, he could always shift the blame to his superiors.

In the world of “Kill the Wolf,” Inspector Chen Guozhong and Wang Bao of the Loyal Justice Society were bitter enemies. As long as Chen needed Song Ren to get close to Wang Bao, he could never allow trouble to befall Song Ren inside the prison.

Besides him, no one in the West District police station dared approach Wang Bao.

...

After the bathhouse incident, Inspector Chen Guozhong quickly got in touch.

Inside the prison medical clinic, in a private ward.

Chen Guozhong and his subordinate Lu Guanhua arrived together, closing the doors and windows behind them.

Chen’s face was grim, suppressing his anger without speaking.

Impatient Lu Guanhua couldn’t hold back and grabbed Song Ren’s collar fiercely. “You bastard, what the hell are you playing at?”

“You kept dodging when we first asked you to infiltrate Wang Bao.”

“Now, finally, you get a chance to penetrate Loyal Justice, assigned here to get close to the assassin A Ji.”

“And what do you do? You get into a fight with other inmates right after arriving, leaving one with a broken rib and another with a concussion!”

“Do you even want to keep this job?”

Song Ren pushed Lu’s hand away and sat on the clinic bed. “Keeping your head down in Stanley just makes others look down on you.”

“If you want to get into Wang Bao’s sight, you have to show some skill.”

Lu Guanhua was still furious. “Damn it, you didn’t have to beat them that badly. Now it’s hard to smooth things over.”

Song Ren shrugged. “You want me to work but don’t want to clean up the mess.”

“That’s not how it works. I’m here to get close to Wang Bao.”

“That guy goes crazy like a mad dog. You’ve suffered because of him too.”

Hearing this, Lu Guanhua snapped, “Kid, you’re talking back!”

Song Ren raised an eyebrow. “Am I wrong?”

Lu Guanhua opened his mouth—

Chen Guozhong interrupted, “Hua, enough.”

He frowned and looked at Song Ren. “I’ll help you settle this this time, but next time, please inform me first so I can be prepared and make arrangements in advance.”

Song Ren nodded. “Alright.”

Chen Guozhong studied him for a long moment, then nodded as well. “That’s settled. The assassin A Ji will be released in a month. Make sure you act quickly.”

Song Ren smiled faintly. “No worries. He won’t get out.”

Chen Guozhong looked up sharply. “What do you mean?”

Song Ren said calmly, “I’ll keep him lying in the infirmary until I’m released.”
