Volume One, Chapter Twenty-One: Arrival in Easy City

It seemed that everyone was rather bored, so they all stayed in their rooms to cultivate, and no one came to disturb Gu Mingxi. When Xiaohua woke Gu Mingxi, the spaceship was already about to arrive at its destination.
“Sister, someone is here to see you!”
After Gu Mingxi stepped out of the space, she opened the door and found it was Gu Mingyue.
Seeing Gu Mingxi come out, Gu Mingyue immediately grabbed her hand. “Mingxi, we’ve arrived at Yicheng. We’re about to disembark.”
Gu Mingxi and Gu Mingyue made their way to the deck, where they immediately saw the city walls of Yicheng. The walls were entirely black and very tall, perfectly suited for defense. They looked incredibly sturdy.
Gu Mingyue pointed at the city walls and said to Gu Mingxi, “Mingxi, I heard before that the walls of Yicheng are reinforced with Wujin ore. They’re extremely solid.”
Gu Mingxi was somewhat surprised. To incorporate Wujin ore into a city’s walls must require a huge amount. Perhaps there was a vein of Wujin ore in this city.
She asked, “Mingyue, could it be that there’s a Wujin ore vein along this route?”
Gu Mingyue was curious as well. “I think it’s quite possible!”
At this moment, Elder Qi suddenly interrupted their conversation. “Your guesses are correct. The walls of Yicheng do indeed contain Wujin ore, and there is a Wujin ore vein here.”
Gu Mingxi and Gu Mingyue were startled upon hearing the captain’s voice and quickly saluted. Hearing Elder Qi’s words, their curiosity deepened.
Elder Qi continued, “As you know, Wujin ore is the hardest mineral in the world, perfect for forging artifacts as it increases their hardness. It might seem extravagant to blend Wujin ore into city walls, but it’s not a waste at all. Yicheng is a crucial location because it backs onto the Hundred-Thousand Great Gods. This place often suffers attacks by beasts, and occasionally even beast tides. If the city cannot withstand these assaults, the entire cultivation world behind it would face grave danger.”
Gu Mingxi pondered and said, “So Yicheng serves as a protective barrier for the cultivation world?”
Elder Qi nodded. “Exactly. The spaceship is about to land. Prepare to disembark.”
Upon entering Yicheng, Gu Mingxi felt one thing vividly: the city was truly crowded!
After all, the five top sects of Qingyun Continent each hold admissions once every ten years. Within a decade, many suitable children seek to join sects. When gathered together, it formed quite an impressive number.

The Gu family had their own villa in Yicheng. Since their journey was relatively swift, they arrived three days early and could use this time to rest.
After tidying up her belongings, Gu Mingxi left her room.
Gu Mingyue saw her and hurriedly waved to her.
When they first entered the city, Gu Mingyue and Gu Mingxi had agreed to go out and explore after settling their things, to experience the local customs.
They first arrived at the marketplace. However, as the top sects’ once-in-a-decade admissions were about to begin, most of the market was filled with people selling information.
Gu Mingxi and Gu Mingyue joined the crowd and bought two pieces of information. But upon opening them, they realized these were things they already knew. After all, the information sold here was unlikely to be deeply concealed.
Most of it exploited information gaps to sell to people from smaller or more remote areas.
The information was useful to them but meaningless to Gu Mingxi and her group. The Gu family had their own sources; a thousand-year-old clan always knew more and had some insider knowledge.
Finding nothing interesting in the marketplace, Gu Mingxi and Gu Mingyue went to a restaurant to eat.
Since they arrived late, they could only dine in the main hall. They chose a corner seat.
The hall was filled with a mix of people chatting about various topics. Gu Mingxi listened carefully but soon found the topics trivial and gave up, focusing on her meal.
While eating, Gu Mingyue said, “Mingxi, hurry up. The food here tastes pretty good.”
“Alright.”
After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant. After wandering around Yicheng for a while, they returned to the Gu family villa.
Due to the top sects’ once-in-a-decade admissions, many people had gathered. With such a mixed crowd, no one knew if someone might seize the opportunity to undermine some relatively famous talents. It was best to keep a low profile.
After all, a genius is only a genius as long as they live. If you die, you’re nothing.

Back at the Gu family villa, Gu Mingxi said to Gu Mingyue, “For the next few days, let’s stay inside the villa. Don’t go out. The outside world is chaotic; who knows what dangers might lurk. It’s safer to stay put.”
Gu Mingyue nodded knowingly. “Indeed, better to cultivate quietly in our rooms to avoid trouble.”
Elder Qi understood as well. After a tedious ten-day voyage, it was natural for people to want to explore a new place, so he did not forbid anyone from going out.
However, once all the Gu family disciples returned, Elder Qi gathered everyone in the main hall.
He looked around sternly and said, “From this moment until the disciple recruitment conference, no one is allowed to step outside the Gu family villa. In the past, some talents were assassinated before the conference, so you must stay here obediently. Understood?”
Gu Mingxi had not expected that anyone would actually resort to such measures.
Elder Qi’s words served as a warning to everyone. They had been somewhat relaxed upon arriving in Yicheng, but now it was clear they should remain quiet and cultivate in their rooms.
At this moment, the Gu family guards brought urgent news: “A small branch of the Wen family recently had a rare genius with a single Wood Spirit Root. Just now, someone destroyed this genius’s Spirit Root. The culprit is still unknown!”
The news caused an uproar.
They had just been discussing such risks, and now a murder had occurred immediately, silencing the young disciples.
Everyone knew that losing one’s Spirit Root meant losing the ability to cultivate, rendering one useless.
Possessing even a single Wood Spirit Root was considered genius. A once-promising talent had instantly become worthless.
