Su Tian stared at Xue Xue before him, a stranger now in his eyes.

He recalled the past when he once believed the feelings between them were pure and filled with love.

People often asked why Xue Xue, the school beauty, would choose a poor boy like him.

He gave a bitter smile inwardly. Xue Xue was indeed the school beauty—beautiful, academically excellent, and regarded as a model student by all the teachers.

But that also made her a target for those with ill intentions.

Su Tian liked Xue Xue and often protected her in secret. Once, as Xue Xue was leaving the library and heading back to the dormitory, Qin Tian and several thugs blocked her path.

They dragged her into the small woods on campus.

At that time, Xue Xue was not yet twenty, with long hair like a waterfall, dressed in a light blue dress.

The night woods were frighteningly dark.

Under a broken streetlight, she could barely make out the faces of the men—it was Qin Tian...

"Junior sister, you’re really beautiful. I like you," Qin Tian said.

The others laughed heartily, adding, "Big brother, I like her too."

"What are you talking about? This girl is Qin big brother's pick. What use is it if you like her?" another sneered.

Xue Xue trembled in fear, shrinking into a corner. "Don’t come near me!"

"Oh sister, we’re not bad guys. Just keep Qin big brother happy, and we’ll let you go. How about that?"

Xue Xue would never agree. Though her legs were weak, she tried to run, but surrounded by so many, escape was impossible.

As she attempted to flee, a man grabbed her and threw her to the ground.

One of the men crouched down and slapped her fiercely. She cried out in pain.

"Don’t hit her! She might get hurt!" another warned.

Xue Xue clutched her clothes tightly. "Please, let me go! I have money; I can give you money!"

"Little sister, don’t you know who Qin big brother is? We’re not short on money, and we don’t want your life. We just want you to keep us company. Don’t be ungrateful."

Qin Tian didn’t want to waste words. He pulled Xue Xue up and forced her against a tree, his face close to hers, exhaling a foul breath of alcohol that made her nauseous.

She tried to push him away but had no strength.

"Such a pretty junior sister, wandering alone at night," Qin Tian said.

He reached to touch her waist, but she slapped his hand away. Qin Tian didn’t get angry; her back was pinned to the tree with nowhere to run, her eyes filled with fear.

"Let me go, please... I can give you money. You can find others."

"Who else can match someone as pretty as you? I’m tired of those others. Maybe it’s time for a change," Qin Tian sneered and moved closer, as if to...

"Get away! Don’t touch me!" Xue Xue screamed.

But no matter how much she protested, it seemed the outcome was sealed.

Qin Tian smiled and beckoned lightly. Behind him, his men lunged at Xue Xue like starving wolves.

"Get away!" she shouted, utterly desperate.

She longed for someone to save her, yet it seemed a hopeless wish.

Just as she was about to give in, a crashing sound came from nearby.

Then the men shouted, "It’s burning!"

Xue Xue looked up in panic and saw one of the men on fire.

Amid the flames, she smelled the sharp scent of alcohol.

"Xue Xue! Run!" a young voice called.

She glanced toward the edge of the woods and saw a boy she didn’t know—but he was helping her.

Knowing this was her only chance, she ran toward the edge of the woods.

"Don’t let her escape! Chase her!" the men shouted.

They tried to pursue, but the boy kept tossing bottles into the woods, blocking their path, then grabbed Xue Xue and fled.

Su Tian always believed that at that moment, at least Xue Xue liked him.

Later, Xue Xue asked him, "Weren’t you afraid? There were so many of them, and you threw fire into the woods. What if it caught fire?"

Su Tian scratched his head. "I didn’t think much. I just wanted to save you, nothing else."

Afterward, Su Tian juggled school and work to give Xue Xue a better life.

He delivered food by day, tutored children in the afternoon, and worked as a doorman at night—three jobs a day—all just to buy her a necklace she liked.

Having been with Xue Xue so long, he was devoted to her without reservation.

But he never imagined she would betray him.

How could she be so heartless?

Before Qin Tian could speak, Xue Xue looked at Su Tian with utter disgust.

"Actually... over all these years, your parents have also relied on Qin big brother’s help. Otherwise, how could your father have been forced into usury and died, and why did your mother lose her sight? Qin big brother was merciful enough not to make your mother move out of your family’s broken house. I even wanted to invite your mother to my wedding, but she would only eat leftovers there. Someone like your mother walking into my wedding would be a disgrace."

Hearing this, Su Tian was furious.

Xue Xue and her companions saw his anger, but what could they do? In her heart, she thought Su Tian was just a powerless man who could only rage impotently.

No money, no influence—what could he do against the Qin family?

Still, Xue Xue was not satisfied, for she knew how much Qin Tian despised Su Tian.

The more she pleased Qin Tian, the more favor she would gain. Marriage was just a blank slate; as long as she could be the mistress of the Qin family, she could have anything she wanted.

"Su Tian, if you come to disrupt my wedding now, it will only make me despise you more, just like your useless father—he deserved to die."

Su Tian’s anger reached its peak as he asked coldly, "What did you say? Say it again."

Qin Tian sighed. "Su Tian, don’t blame me for being rude. Today is my wedding, and I don’t want things to get ugly. Drink this cup of wine, and tomorrow you can come work at my company—three thousand a month."

Su Tian remained silent, holding back his fury.

"Su Tian, the Qin family is giving you a way out. Take it. Frankly, you’re less useful than a dog we keep. What’s the matter? You came alone, still planning to fight me? I’ll give you a chance."

Qin Tian pulled back and said, "Come on, fight..."

Before he finished, Su Tian raised his hand and threw a punch so fast Qin Tian didn’t even see it coming.

Guests screamed and many fled.

The remaining people were mostly Qin Tian’s men.

Qin Tian fell to the ground, blood tasting metallic in his mouth as he spat out a mouthful along with two teeth.

"Damn! Kill him!" Qin Tian roared.

Others moved to help him, but he shoved them away. "Didn’t I say I want to handle this myself? Kill him, or I’m responsible!"

Xue Xue screamed in fear but, as Qin Tian’s wife, hurried to help him.

"Are you okay?"

"Get lost! Are you still thinking about him?" Qin Tian snapped.

Xue Xue protested, "Qin Tian, I’m not. I’m just worried about you..."

"If not, then get away from me. Today, I want him dead! He should’ve died five years ago!"

...

What surprised Qin Tian was that the dozen brothers who came to escort him couldn’t even lay a finger on Su Tian.

Now it was Su Tian’s turn to mock Qin Tian.

"What do you have besides some dirty money?" Su Tian sneered.

Qin Tian pulled out his phone. "You just wait!"

Su Tian smiled faintly, waiting.
