When Su Jingxuan emerged, the gentle expression had returned to his face.

Luo Yunhe finally breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of him. She had been fully prepared to rush in, but surprisingly, she hadn't heard any shouting or fighting this time.

"Husband..."

"It’s alright, you don't need to worry!"

"As long as you're okay!" Luo Yunhe squatted back down, fanning the fire vigorously to simmer the rabbit stew with radishes. The clay pot was quite large; one pot was enough to feed the whole family.

Luo Yunhe heaped plenty of meat into a bowl for Su Jingxuan, adding some radishes and broth. She served herself a smaller portion. The rest, she divided into three bowls and carried them over to the others. She bore no ill will; in fact, she was trying to be kind as she placed the three bowls of rabbit meat in front of them.

"Father, Mother, Sister, time to eat!" Luo Yunhe was unexpectedly agreeable.

Su Shan, Madam Chen, and Su Ruyi sat there, watching Luo Yunhe bring the food over and listening to her speak so pleasantly. They immediately concluded that Luo Yunhe must be trying to squeeze money out of them to pay off her debts, which explained her uncharacteristic friendliness. Their faces darkened instantly. None of them even glanced at the bowls of meat on the table; under normal circumstances, they would have snatched them up long ago.

When Luo Yunhe noticed their strange, fixed stares, she frowned slightly, but said nothing and turned away. No sooner had she left than the three in the room began to whisper.

"Father, she’s acting so nicely today—she must be plotting something wicked!"

"Your daughter is right. She’s probably just trying to squeeze money out of us to settle her debts!"

Su Shan shared this view, and his expression turned even uglier.

"Father, what should we do?"

"If she asks me for money, I won't give her a single cent. If that scoundrel Wang really comes after three months, we’ll just hide for a while..."

"Why hide? Mother, I say we kick her out. She’s the one who borrowed the money, why should we have to hide? If it needs to be paid back, that’s her problem. If they want her life, then let them take it!"

"Yes, yes! I've gone senile, I hadn't thought of that. Just kick her out and all our troubles will be over!"

After whispering for a while, the three reached a consensus. They then proceeded to devour the rabbit meat without the slightest sense of shame.

Luo Yunhe, unaware of their scheming, felt that the three of them had been quite well-behaved today and decided not to provoke them. That evening, she and Su Jingxuan sat together to discuss their future and plans for managing the vineyard. Luo Yunhe’s plan was sound, and she even explained in detail how to cultivate the grapevines. Su Jingxuan loved seeing the sparkle in her eyes—it was infectious and comforting.

"Are you even listening to me?" Luo Yunhe was in the middle of a passionate explanation when she turned to see Su Jingxuan staring at her, lost in thought. She was immediately displeased.

"I am! I’m listening to every word, wife. It’s just... they say that land can't grow anything at all. How will you make the grapes grow better?"

"Who says so? Even though it's sandy soil, it just needs proper treatment. Look, if it were truly barren, why have the vines survived all these years without anyone living there? It’s just a lack of management and proper fertilization. Don't worry, I’m very skilled in this. I’ll make you look at me with new eyes!"

"Alright, I’ll listen to you. If you need anything, just tell me. I’ll support you with everything I have!"

"Husband, you’re too good to me!" Luo Yunhe loved being trusted so completely by Su Jingxuan. Touched by his support, she felt a burst of happiness, cupped his face, and planted a kiss on his cheek. "You’re so wonderful! It’s getting late, let’s get some rest. We have a lot to do tomorrow!"

Su Jingxuan sat there stunned, his eyes wide, feeling the lingering heat on his cheek. She had kissed him again. The sensation was marvelous—a tingling, thrilling feeling that made his heart leap. He remained sitting for a long time even after she had lain down.

Luo Yunhe, already settled and ready to close her eyes, noticed Su Jingxuan still sitting there motionless. "Husband, come to bed!" she urged, patting the empty spot beside her. Her gesture was intimate, yet her eyes remained perfectly clear.

Su Jingxuan was most afraid of those clear eyes. This little woman was a flirt who didn't even know it. How could he explain the fluttering in his heart?

"Oh, right, alright!" Su Jingxuan suppressed his racing heart and lay down bit by bit. As soon as he did, he caught the unique scent of Luo Yunhe, which only made his mind wander further.

Luo Yunhe, however, was completely oblivious to his internal turmoil. She lay down contentedly, closed her eyes, and drifted into a deep sleep shortly after.

The next morning, Su Jingxuan woke up and searched the kitchen, but found no ingredients. He frowned. Usually, the family's grain was kept in the kitchen, but there was none to be found. He didn't need to think twice to know what had happened. It soured his mood.

Luo Yunhe, eager to clear the weeds from the field, had also risen early. Seeing Su Jingxuan searching the kitchen, she knew he was looking for something to cook. She went to her room and pulled a small cloth bag from a corner under her bed. It wasn't large, but it was filled with grain. She had taken it from Madam Chen’s room the day she had gone in to get clothes, realizing that all the food was being hoarded there. It was baffling why they had to hide the family's food like this.

"I have some here!" Luo Yunhe emerged, smiling and shaking the bag at him.

Su Jingxuan smiled.

"Here, take it. I’m going to the field to pick some greens, we can make salty rice porridge!"

"Alright!"

Luo Yunhe grabbed a basket and hurried off. She returned quickly, the basket filled with fresh, green vegetables.
